Happens all over the world every day to uncountable amounts of people, who don't then go on a mass killing spree. Look, I get it (and have spent plenty of time in America, mostly Texas where gun nuts abound) but the fact of it all is Americans are conditioned to war-like firearm casualty numbers unlike any other developed country in the world. The mass killings will never stop, anyone who thinks otherwise is delusional.

    sad but likely true.

and if common sense gun legislation wasn't passed after twenty 6-year old children were slaughtered at sandy hook elementary school, it likely never will be.

Not really. But let's agree on the snap part - other western countries have a social net to stop people going hungry and homeless, unlike the US where the system doesn't even come close.

Now, take these guns out of the equation and you get fired at fifty and snap . . . you go to the pub, start a fight and get whacked in the mouth, to live another day and move on

That is the truth. I enjoyed having various guns all my life. I hunted and went to shooting ranges. The difference is that no matter how mad I may get I would never shoot another person. I personally think a good part of the population is on the edge and anyone is capable of capping anyone at anytime.

Ten-year-old in Houston, Texas accidentally shot by babysitter

A 10-year-old boy was shot by his babysitter as she attempted to take selfies while holding a gun, police in Houston say.
Caitlyn Smith shot the child in the stomach on Tuesday, thinking the weapon was unloaded. Police confirmed she is the child's aunt.
The 19-year-old has since been charged with injury to a child and serious bodily injury.
The boy is in a serious condition but is expected to make a full recovery.

Ten-year-old in Houston, Texas accidentally shot by babysitter - BBC News

Almost a surprise that it made the news in the USA...

...and a bit of good old British understatement from the Sheriff:

"Very tragic situation, we see this quite a bit."
    .....

Meanwhile up North someone didn't like the beer...

Five dead in Milwaukee shooting at Molson Coors beer company
Five people have been killed in a shooting at the Molson Coors Brewing Company campus in Milwaukee, Wisconsin state, local officials say.

They say the gunman died from "self-inflicted wounds". The man - a 51-year-old Milwaukee resident - worked for the company. His motives were unclear.

The shooting occurred in the early afternoon while hundreds of employees were still at work.

Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett said it was a "tragic day for the city". Speaking at a news briefing shortly after Wednesday's shooting, he described it as a "horrific act".

Meanwhile, Milwaukee police chief Alfonso Morales said that the five victims were all employees of the brewing company. He praised the way the city's police, FBI officers and firefighters responded to the attack. As the incident unfolded, nearby schools and businesses were locked down, local media report.

Speaking at the White House in Washington, President Donald Trump offered his "deepest condolences to the victims and families in Milwaukee".

He described the gunman as a "wicked murderer".

Oh I think they were quite clear. He had probably worked there for a long time and just like that, he had nothing.

Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett said it was a "tragic day for the city"
Isn't that always the case after any shooting

Trump described the gunman as a "wicked murderer"
Wicked Murderer? What does Trump know. But the public feels better. In a few days this will all be forgotten until the next one

Absolutely nothing wrong with that, people in countries with real gun control enjoy doing exactly the same things. But to do either, all they need is a bolt-action rifle with a 5 shot magazine which is perfectly legal for them to have once they've satisfied their countries requirements for gun ownership.

Semi auto licences are strictly regulated to people involved in feral pest control (as one example) and nobody outside the military gets to have full auto weapons of war. In many conversations with American friends over the years, they generally think this sort of control is fucked up and it's pointless debating it with them. It is what it is.

Similar happened to me once. Was in the summer of 65. I was home on leave. The girl friend and I in the backseat of my 1964 Olds 442. Top down listening to You've lost that lovin feeling on the radio as we sipped some mighty fine local wine and toked a bit of local herb.

One thing led to another, gun went off, and 9 months later I was married and the proud father of a bouncing baby boy.

Hang in there Anthony. Shit happens.

    This to shall pass.

A Family Dollar security guard was shot dead after trying to enforce Michigan's compulsory face-mask law

(his death not included in the COVID-19 statistic)5 May 2020A security guard at a Flint, Michigan, Family Dollar store was shot dead Friday after getting in an argument with a customer over the state's mandated face-mask rule, prosecutors said.

Calvin Munerlyn, 43, was married with six children and three stepchildren.

Authorities charged three members of the same family with first-degree murder in Munerlyn's death: Sharmel Teague; her husband, Larry Teague; and her son Ramonyea Travon Bishop.

Sharmel is in custody while her husband and son remain at large.

A Family Dollar security guard was fatally shot after getting into a fight with a woman over the state's face-mask policy, prosecutors in Michigan said.

Calvin Munerlyn, 43, died Friday afternoon after the deadly altercation at the Family Dollar store in the city of Flint, where he'd worked for the past year.

He was married with six children and three stepchildren.

During a Monday press conference, Genesee County prosecutors said that at about 2 p.m. on Friday, Munerlyn stopped two people from trying to enter the store: Sharmel Lasse Teague, 45, and her daughter.

He stopped them, the officials said, because the daughter, who was not named, was not wearing a face mask.

A Genesee County prosecutor, David Leyton, said Teague "began yelling at Munerlyn and spit at him and Munerlyn told her to leave the store and instructed a cashier not to serve her."

The two left but returned 20 minutes later, the prosecutors said. Teague came back in the same vehicle with two men — identified as her husband, Larry Edward Teague, 44, and her son Ramonyea Travon Bishop, 23. The incident was recorded by security cameras, the prosecutors said.

Prosecutors said Larry Teague accused Munerlyn of "disrespecting his wife" and Bishop then shot Munerlyn in the back of the head.

Two McDonald’s workers have been shot after reportedly telling customers they could not eat their food inside due to coronavirus restrictions.

Police in Oklahoma City said two customers were told to leave the store’s dining area shortly before the shooting.

Barry Mangold, a reporter with local CBS affiliate KWTV, said: “Oklahoma City Police Department say two women became angry when staff told them the dining room was closed due to Covid-19.

Oklahoma City Police Lt. Michelle Henderson told CNN that two members of staff were shot and a third was also injured at the fast-food branch on Southwest 89th Street and South Pennsylvania Avenue.

This will no doubt launch a few "The Democrats are trying to take away your guns!" adverts...

New York state’s attorney general sued to dissolve the National Rifle Association on Thursday, alleging senior leaders of the non-profit group diverted millions of dollars for personal use and to buy the silence and loyalty of former employees.

The lawsuit announced by Attorney General Letitia James alleges NRA leaders paid for family trips to the Bahamas, private jets and expensive meals that contributed to a $64 million reduction in the NRA’s balance sheet in three years, turning a surplus into a deficit.

James alleged in a statement that NRA leaders “used millions upon millions from NRA reserves for personal use,” failing to comply with the NRA’s own internal policies in addition to state and federal law.
The confrontation pits James, a Democrat, against the largest and most powerful gun organization in the United States, one that is closely aligned with President Donald Trump’s Republican Party.

The action is certain to further polarize a country where the NRA is revered by conservatives as a champion of the U.S. Constitutional right to keep and bear arms and vilified by liberals as an enabler of rampant gun violence.

“The NRA’s influence has been so powerful that the organization went unchecked for decades while top executives funneled millions into their own pockets,” James said in a statement. “The NRA is fraught with fraud and abuse, which is why, today, we seek to dissolve the NRA, because no organization is above the law.”

The NRA, which teaches gun safety in addition to advocating laws making it easier for Americans to own guns and ammunition, is subject to New York law because it is registered as a non-profit organization in New York, where it conducts most of its financial transactions.

The NRA, which has its national headquarters in Fairfax, Virginia, about 20 miles (30 km) west of Washington, D.C., did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

New York state and the NRA have tangled before. The state has taken legal action against NRA-branded insurance policies sold to gun owners, and the NRA is suing the state for closing gun stores under an executive order to halt the spread of COVID-19.

The latest lawsuit names the NRA as a whole and four senior executives of the group including Wayne LaPierre, the executive vice-president who has been atop the leadership for decades.

It also names former Treasurer and Chief Financial Officer Wilson Phillips, former Chief of Staff and Executive Director of General Operations Joshua Powell, and Corporate Secretary and General Counsel John Frazer.

The suit charges the NRA with “awarding contracts to the financial gain of close associates and family, and appearing to dole out lucrative no-show contracts to former employees in order to buy their silence and continued loyalty,” James’s office said in a statement.

“The failure of the NRA to comply with multiple fiduciary responsibilities and state and federal laws resulted in the NRA seeing substantial losses on its balance sheet: going from a surplus of $27,802,714 in 2015 to a net deficit of $36,276,779 in 2018 – contributing to a total loss of more than $64 million in just three years,” the statement said.

In addition to attempting to close down a group that has existed since 1871, James seeks to recover millions of dollars in lost assets and to stop the four executives from serving on he board of any other not-for-profit group in the state.

They are such chickenshits those cops. Three of them couldn't take down an unarmed man so they shoot an unarmed man in the back. WTF are they thinking.
That cop's going to be in a world of trouble. I'm sure Trump wishes him well.
