I love how all the answers by any political figure is the same. They really don't care and have no intention to really make a stance. They say what will keep them favorable in the voters eye. Its all the same. Trump said what he was supposed to say by some bubblehead campaign manager.

Wait a few weeks, This will all be forgotten and the public moves on.......until the next one.

Didn't Obama have control of both houses during his first year of being POTUS and what did he do during that time to enact gun control laws?

If those links could be more connected; the people on the bottom line added to the top line then the total number of deaths would drop nicely. Having said that, what goes on inside the US, is US business, and I really don't care - have enough problems in the UK to sort out first...

    Does not compute.

And an Open Carry state as well.

The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy who remembered he lives in an open carry state and remembered to bring his gun with him. Or something.

It seems Bowie is starting to realise that guns are a really fucking good way of taking a life.

Given that this is the reason they were invented, it isn't actually a surprise to most people.

Drumpf is partly blaming the shootings on the long discredited link between video games and violence.

Maybe someone should tell him that kids play video games worldwide.

"It's not guns, they say, it's 'mental illness', and we should work on identifying that instead.

I'd have thought a sure-fire identifier of mental illness was thinking a military grade weapon was necessary to get a coffee."

    And mental illness as well.
Can't find it now but read a piece earlier today about the link between mental illness and these shootings and it turns out there isn't one. Very few are committed by people who have been diagnosed as mentally ill.
Now diagnosed might be the key here but still.
Anger, frustration, confusion, but not mental illness.
    Apparently.

But they don't have easy access to firearms I would guess.

As for the Clinton ban It drove up sales of those types of guns. I still have a Chinese SKS unopened in the box. The other I used for deer hunting.

Thinking about it I was at a local sporting good store looking at camping gear when Obummer said he wanted to ban the ARs. There was a line of folks at the gun counter snapping them up.

If you don't think the politicians take "stock" in America think again. Remington goes off the charts over bans.

Yea, I picked up an AR just for kicks that day but I do keep it in a safe place.

Apologies for the thread drift but the start of ww1 makes for an interesting discussion. was there a thread about this started before? A lot of parties involved and several countries, including the UK, could have prevented WW1. As for WW2, it should be remembered that the USA sent some very mixed signals between the wars.

Trump is doing his best to cause hatred against non whites though and playing the tired mental illness card is the equivalent of a ten high at poker.

Stopping new weapons from being sold will at least restrict the problem to current levels.

Assuming that there’s a direct relationship between the number of weapons and the frequency of attacks.
Imho the attacks are the result of a sick culture and softcock incel patheticness.

Kind of think that won't work, coke and heroin are restricted in the USA, plenty of it out there.
Mexico has strict gun laws, killing each other in such numbers, makes the USA seem safe.

There are answers, but politicians don't want to make the hard choices.

Unfortunately the law is pretty well decided, so any changes to it would routinely go to SCOTUS and be nixed. Any effective change would have to be a constitutional amendment which has onerous requirements and would not get through. What he did do was use executive privilege to bring in things like stopping the mentally ill get guns so easily. Baldy orange cunto rolled that back two years ago.

Texas shootings: Random gun attacks leave five dead

    https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-49540160

At least five people have been killed and many more injured in the second mass shooting in the US state of Texas in a month.

First to be shot was a policeman who stopped the gunman's car between the cities of Midland and Odessa.

The gunman went on to shoot at numerous motorists and passers-by. At one point, he abandoned his car and stole a postal truck before continuing his spree.

He was shot dead by police at a cinema complex.

The motive of the gunman, who was white and in his mid-30s, is unclear.

Four weeks ago, 22 people were killed by a gunman in the Texan city of El Paso.

About 20 people were injured - three of them police officers - in this latest incident of gun violence in America, although the police say not all of them were shot. Some may have been cut by glass as their car windows shattered when they were hit by bullets.

Odessa's Medical Center Hospital said a child under the age of two was among those being treated there. Seven of its other patients are in a serious condition.
Police said Saturday's incident began at just after 15:00 local time (20:00 BST) after two Texas Department of Public Safety officers pulled over a vehicle on a Midland highway.

The driver then opened fire on the officers and, after driving away, began shooting at other people in several locations.

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton said in a statement that he was "horrified to see such a senseless act".

In another statement, the state's Governor Greg Abbott said: "We will not allow the Lone Star State to be overrun by hatred and violence. We will unite, as Texans always do, to respond to this tragedy."

In a tweet, US President Donald Trump said he was being kept informed about the shootings in Texas.

Later, Vice President Mike Pence said he and the Trump administration "remain absolutely determined to work with leaders in both parties in Congress to take steps that we can address and confront this scourge of mass atrocity in our country".

Amazing how this barely made the headlines. Presumably because there were no dead.

Mass shootings don't matter unless they kill people.

Gunfire broke out after a high school football game in Alabama late Friday, leaving 10 teens injured, half of them critically.

The victims in the shooting in Mobile ranged in age from 15 to 18, police said. They were at Ladd-Peebles Stadium for the game between LeFlore and Williamson high schools when shots rang out, Mobile Police Chief Lawrence Battiste told reporters.

Of the nine people shot, three remained hospitalized Saturday afternoon, Battiste said at a news conference. Injuries to the 10th teenager were not known.

Clearly the existing gun laws have no effect in a place like Texas . . . so, get rid of all gun laws and let anyone and everyone do the concealed carry thing and lift any restrictions on military weapons of any kind.

After all, we know it to be true that the more guns there are, the safer everyone is and this graph proves it:

    Well said, Hatters.

Such simple reasoning doesn't seem to be sinking in.

    It sinks in.

But the NRA own the Republicans and a chunk of the Democrats, so nothing ever gets done.
