Good Samaritan helps Florida man who accidentally shot himself in the penis

A Florida man has been rushed to the hospital by a kind stranger after accidentally shooting himself in the penis.

Shanekia Roberts, 25, told police that Cedrick Jelks, 38, came into her home in a panic and ran straight to the bathroom. She followed the intruder and saw that he had a gunshot wound to his crotch, so she gave him a lift to the hospital. Jelks underwent surgery there.

Jelks, who was convicted in 2004 for cocaine possession, reportedly told Ms Roberts that he had sat on his firearm, causing it to go off, local media reported.

The victim of the accidental gunshot may be facing charges once he is cleared from the hospital, however, since he is a convicted felon and likely unable to be in possession of a firearm.

There are more guns in circulation in the United States than there are people, with a rough ration of 113 guns for every 100 people. And, accidental shootings are a real problem — particularly with children.

There are 1.7 million children who live with unlocked and loaded guns in the US, accounting for roughly one in three homes with kids, according to data from the Centre for Injury Research and Prevention at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.

That access to firearms amongst children results in thousands of accidental deaths a year. There were 2,549 children killed in 2014 from guns, and an additional 13,576 more were injured. People who die from accidental shooting were more than three times as likely to have a firearm in their homes. As for children, 89 percent of accidental deaths occur at home when a child i playing with an unlocked gun.

The medical director of the American Red Cross killed his infant son, his girlfriend and their pet dog police in Nevada say.

The bodies of Dr. John Lunetta, 40, his girlfriend Karen Jackson, 35, and their son John Jr. who would have turned one-year-old Wednesday, and the family's dog were discovered Monday night in their Las Vegas home.

Police say they were called recently to the home over a custodial argument, but not a physical one. Lunetta owned a gun legally. They say he fatally killed his family before turning a gun on himself.

    Lawn Darts ('Jarts'):

Over an eight year period 6,100 people sought emergency room treatment due to injuries sustained from Jarts.

Of those 81% of those cases involved children 15 or younger and half of those were 10 or younger. And then, tragically, a couple of kids were killed.

    Result:

Jarts were given the full ban-hammer in the U.S. (Canada followed suit shortly after).

Fully assembled individual lawn darts, sets, and kits are banned from sale in, or entry into, both countries and listings for them will be pulled from online auction/purchase sites.

Australian woman shot dead by US police after 911 call

An Australian woman has been shot and killed by police in Minneapolis, the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) has confirmed.
The Minnesota Public Safety Department said a woman was shot in Minneapolis after two officers responded to a callout about a possible assault Saturday around 11.30pm local time.
The woman, an Australian in her 40s, called 911 after hearing a noise near her house, US media outlets are reporting.

I reckon I can answer that.

The 'heartsick' mayor of a United States city where an Australian was woman gunned down by police has questioned why officers had body cameras turned off at the time of her shooting.

Justine Ruszczyk was home alone on Saturday night when she called 911 to report a possible assault in a back alley near her property in South Minneapolis, Minnesota.

But when police arrived at Ms Ruszczyk's home at around 11.30pm, 'one officer fired their weapon, fatally striking the woman' as she reportedly stood in her driveway.

The only thing that will stop innocent people who are stood in their driveways after having called the police from being shot by the police are good people stood in their driveways with guns.

A woman at home alone heard a noise/disturbance, called the police, the police arrived, that woman was shot dead by the police...

What possible facts to be released would materially change any of that?

And you clearly have an opinion as well so how is that any different.

    What facts would justify it.

Chances are she was upset when the cops arrived and they did what do best; escalate an already unstable situation to the point where they had legal rights to shoot her.

Of course he didn't have his body camera on so all we can do is take his word for what happened.

Oops, turns out Slick was right and we spoke without having all the facts...

Minnesota newspaper The Star Tribune reports Ms Damond was dressed in her pyjamas when she went to the driver's side door of the police vehicle that responded to the emergency call.

She was talking to the driver when the officer in the passenger seat pulled out his gun and shot across his fellow officer
    .

    [...]

Minnesota police wear body cameras, but the officers involved did not have their cameras turned on at the time.

    That of course changes everything.

Yes, there are few things more deadly than unarmed Australian women in their pajamas.

Rabid lions with head-mounted lasers maybe but even then...

So she was just standing there talking like a good samaratin and the cop shot her.

    Yes. I'm skeptical.

Ah so we've gone from 'wait for the facts!' to pure conjecture on your part.

But yeah, clearly she called the cops and went to speak to them on her pajamas with the intent of inflicting harm. Maybe she used some really harsh words or something.

Gawd knows you throw tantrums over words so maybe the cop thought he/she was justified shooting her over some. Maybe it's a Merkin' thing.

    You didn't post facts.

Me being skeptical of that paragraph as an explanation of what happened isn't conjecture.

I posted the known facts, you got all pissy about waiting until all the facts were known as though it would somehow mean this woman was un-shot, you then went full retard with your pure conjecture.

    Because hypocrite.

    You're going into meltdown overdrive.

You didn't post the known facts, unless the known facts are that she was shot by police.

I think I'll wait for all the details & context before I jump to conclusions.

Although it certainly is possible she was just standing there like a good samaratin and the cop was just bent on murder to the point that he would shoot across his driver/partner to kill her.

    To summarize:

Woman at home alone hears some sort of noise/disturbance; calls cops and reports it; cops arrive, the woman is speaking with the driver when the cop in the passenger seat decides for some reason she's an imminent threat so shoots across his/her buddy; woman is shot dead; no record exists because cops didn't have their body-cams on.

Everyone else on the known facts to this point: WTF!?
Slick: Somehow, someway, she deserved it.

This sounds utterly absurd, even by the standards of that utterly absurd country.
