11-year-old shot in drive-by not far from where 3 others were killed Sunday

An 11-year-old boy was shot in the upper chest Monday night in front of his Southwest Miami-Dade home after walking outside to speak with his brother.
Miami-Dade police said it was just past 10 p.m. when a dark SUV drove by a home at Southwest 173rd Street and 103rd Avenue, and someone from inside the vehicle opened fire.
Only Jamarie London, 11, was hit. He was taken by Miami-Dade Fire Rescue to Nicklaus Children’s Hospital. Police don’t have a motive or a suspect.
The shooting is only about 40 blocks from where a mother and her two children were shot and killed early Sunday morning.
Police believe Antwon Lamar Fair, 32, shot and killed Takeeya “Keke” Fulton, 39, Nuckeria “Keria” Harris, 19, and Corey “C.J.” Bishop Jr., 17, at their home at Southwest 203rd Terrace and 115th Avenue.
A fourth child was shot but is recovering. Police recovered the white Chevy Impala they believe Fair used as a getaway car, but haven’t yet caught up with Fair. They’ve said he may be armed and dangerous.

Man held on murder charge in teens' deaths near Atlanta

Man held on murder charges in teens' deaths near Atlanta | www.ajc.com

ROSWELL, Ga. (AP) — Police arrested a 20-year-old man on murder charges Wednesday as they investigate the slayings of two teenagers, each shot in the head, whose bodies were found behind a grocery store in an Atlanta suburb.

Jeffrey A. Hazelwood is accused of killing Natalie Henderson and Carter Davis early Monday morning in a case that left parents in Atlanta's sprawling northern suburbs on edge, Roswell Police Chief Rusty Grant said at a Wednesday news conference at Roswell police headquarters.
While investigators are unsure of the motive, "we believe he acted alone," the chief said.

Hazelwood was being held at the Roswell Detention Center on two counts of murder, and was expected to be transferred to the Fulton County Jail later, police said.

A delivery driver spotted the bodies behind a Publix store, Det. Zachary Frommer said. The Fulton County medical examiner said each teen was killed by a bullet to the head.

Officers located Hazelwood at a gas station not far from the crime scene, and brought him to police headquarters for questioning around 5 a.m. Wednesday, Grant said. He's been "generally cooperative" during the interviews with detectives, Frommer said.

Hazelwood is from Roswell, and also has ties to the Woodstock and east Cobb County areas, Frommer said. He had been staying with family and friends at various places in the Roswell area in the recent past, the detective said.

Though police declined to specify exactly what led them to pursue Hazelwood as a suspect, it was a combination of physical evidence, electronic evidence, interviews and old-school police works that resulted in the arrest, Frommer said.
"It just seemed like everything came together," Frommer said. "This was a true, old-fashioned type of police case."

The two 17-year-olds were about to start their senior years at high school. Henderson attended Roswell High, just across the street from the Publix, and Davis was a standout lacrosse player at River Ridge in nearby Cherokee County.
Davis also played lacrosse in Rapid City, South Dakota, before returning to finish high school in Georgia, where he had lived as a child, Black Hills Lacrosse Association past president Richard Sudmeier said.

"Our players up here in Rapid City, we called him 'Georgia.' That was his nickname," Sudmeier said in a telephone interview with The Associated Press on Wednesday.

Davis wore No. 6 when he played on the Black Hills Lacrosse team, so Sudmeier said teammates may wear helmet stickers with the number in his honor.
The South Dakota players plan to gather Friday to remember Davis, who was always willing to help his former teammates improve and "was pretty much like a second coach," said Zach Hockert, the varsity coach at Black Hills Lacrosse.

"If I could have a whole team of Carter Davises, we'd be unbeatable," Hockert said Wednesday.

LINNDALE, Ohio — A robbery suspect was shot in the head Sunday at a store here by the man he tried to rob, police said....... The person who fired the shot was being robbed and fired his gun......The man being robbed was not an employee of the business, police said. He had a concealed carry permit, according to police.

I love these stories, sadly Hillary will probably ruin them. Stand your ground, defend yourself, be a man, one of the last few things about America I am still proud of.

Did they ever find that "good samaritan" that shot the carjacking victim in the head in Texas?

Woman fatally shot by Florida officer role-playing as 'bad guy' - World - NZ Herald News

"... Mary Knowlton arrived at the Punta Gorda, Florida, police station yesterday to learn how to be a community steward.

The 73-year-old was there as a student in the citizen police academy, a two-hour course intended to give an intimate look at what makes the department in the quaint Florida town work.

On this night, the group of 35 would tour the station and talk with officers, an essential part of academy curriculum that has gained popularity across the country amid a heated national debate about police violence.

When it came time to get involved, Knowlton volunteered.

The hosting officers chose two students to role-play in a lethal force simulation, a scenario intended to demonstrate how and when officers decide to pull the trigger. Knowlton played the victim, Charlotte Sun photographer Sue Paquin told the newspaper, and a Punta Gorda police officer played a "bad guy".

These scenarios are usually safe, acted out with either fake or empty weapons.

But when the officer's gun was fired, Knowlton - a mother, wife and career librarian - was hit with live ammunition.

She was rushed to a local hospital and pronounced dead..."

Outrage as deaf driver shot dead by US police during traffic stop

Authorities in the southern US state of North Carolina are investigating the death of a deaf man who was fatally shot after a trooper tried to pull him over for speeding.
Daniel Harris, 29, who used sign language to communicate, led trooper Jermaine Saunders on a 13km chase on Thursday that started on an interstate highway and ended outside his home in Charlotte, local television station WSOC reported.
The driver exited his vehicle in the neighborhood and an "encounter took place" that led to a shot being fired, North Carolina State Highway Patrol spokesman Sergeant Michael Baker said in a statement.
The driver died at the scene, Sgt Baker said. No weapon was recovered from Mr Harris, the State Bureau of Investigation told WSOC.
Mr Saunders has been placed on administrative leave while investigators review evidence, including dashboard and body camera videos.
A neighbour called the shooting "totally unacceptable."
"He didn't even hear the siren, he didn't hear anything... You're pulling someone over who is deaf, they are handicapped," Mark Barringer told WSOC.

Whether he was deaf or not, or even if he decided to ignore the pull over, he was unarmed.

No doubt the cop will say he was in fear of his life.

A black homeowner called 911 to report a carjacking. He wound up getting shot by police.

An Indianapolis homeowner who called police to report an attempted armed robbery at his house was apparently mistaken for the suspect and shot in the stomach by a responding officer, authorities said.
Carl Williams, a 48-year-old black man, called 911 early Tuesday morning and told the emergency dispatcher that an armed man tried to assault his wife outside their home, then stole her car keys and drove away in her car, according to a statement from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.
When two officers arrived at the property on the city’s east side, the homeowner, who was also armed and apparently prepared to confront the carjacker, emerged from his home, a law enforcement official told ABC affiliate RTV6.
Apparently confusing him for the suspect, Christopher Mills, a white, nine-year veteran of the force, then shot Williams in the stomach, police said.
Williams was taken to a nearby hospital. Police said Wednesday morning that he was in serious but stable condition and was expected to survive.
“This is a tragic incident involving a homeowner attempting to protect his family and IMPD officers trying to do the same thing,” Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Assistant Chief Randal Taylor said during a news conference. “Of course our thoughts and prayers are certainly with the homeowner.”
[Deaf man fatally shot by trooper in North Carolina]
In 911 audio released by police, the homeowner was heard telling a dispatcher that a man — armed with a rifle and wearing a red shirt and a hat — had tried to assault the caller’s wife. A woman sobbed in the background, and the caller repeatedly told the woman, “Calm down, baby; calm down.”

Shouldn't have been driving in the first place if he's deaf.

I suppose because it's mostly a visual thing?

Seems to be proportionately safer than driving whilst being black in any event. The chance of being stopped and shot for that seem quite high.

That's what I was thinking also. The number of times I've been stopped at a light or something next to some dickhead trying to "THWUMP! THWUMP! THWUMP!" their bass-speaker into oblivion...

Mother of three survives car crash — only to be gunned down by the other driver, police say

Deborah Pearl was driving to work Saturday morning through the local streets of Solon, Ohio, a Cleveland suburb so serene that Money magazine last year named it one of the top 10 places to live in the United States.

It was just after 7 a.m. when the 53-year-old mother of three cruised through an intersection and a man in a sport-utility vehicle ran a red light, slamming into the driver’s side of Pearl’s Ford Taurus, police reports would later say.

The intensity of the crash caused Pearl’s car to skid across the intersection and the SUV to roll several times until it came to a rest flipped upside down, police reports said.

Both drivers survived; somehow, the man in the SUV was able to walk out of his now-overturned vehicle.

And that is where the tragedy begins.

According to a woman who witnessed the accident, the man emerged from his Jeep carrying a rifle, Cleveland.com reported.

Police and other officials would later identify the man as a former U.S. Marine, one who had been deployed to Iraq twice.

The female witness, who gave a written statement to the police, told Cleveland.com what happened was so traumatizing that she did not want to be named.

Rifle in hand, the driver of the SUV walked toward Pearl and — as she held her hands up — shot her several times, the woman told the news site.

“I can’t get her screams out of my head,” she told the site.

Several people in the area appeared to have witnessed the accident. Another woman, Jamirra Brabson, heard four shots, then a woman scream, before three more rounds of at least three shots, the site reported.

“Then it was just silence,” Brabson told the site.

At 7:21 a.m., an area resident called 911, breathless and distraught, to report the accident and the shooting.

“There’s a man walking around with an AK-47, shooting all over the place! Corner of Richmond and Solon,” the woman said, according to a recording of a 911 call provided by Chagrin Valley Dispatch. “… Or a large rifle like that, yes. Please hurry!”

The woman told the dispatcher the man was pacing up and down the road with his rifle, at some point coming up to her driveway. Sounding close to tears, she begged the dispatcher to send help quickly.

Solon police said they found Pearl lying in the road with several gunshot wounds and took her to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead about 8:18 a.m.

The driver of the SUV, 29-year-old Matthew Ryan Desha, was taken into custody. Police said they found a Stag Arms AR-15 rifle in his possession.

A military spokeswoman confirmed to The Washington Post that Desha served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 2004 to 2008, and was deployed to Iraq twice during that time.

According to his military personnel file, Desha was a private who served as a mortarman.

“Word’s can’t explain what we’re going through,” Pearl’s son Derryo Pearl told Cleveland.com. “This is the roughest patch a human being can go through. I’ve gone through tough times before, but it wasn’t like this.”

Derryo Pearl told the news site that his mother was on her way to work that morning at the South East Harley-Davidson dealership, less than 20 miles away from her home in Twinsburg, Ohio.

Her son told the site he credited his mother with raising her three children to become good parents of their own.

“She disciplined us when she needed to discipline us,” Derryo Pearl told the site. “She made us go to school every day. She worked hard and taught us that was the only way to succeed in life.”

Reached by phone Tuesday, Robert Murray and Timothy Young, who identified themselves as Pearl’s husband and another son, told The Post they did not want to talk about what happened but gave permission to use a photo of Pearl.

Desha has been charged with murder and was arraigned Monday via video appearance in Bedford Municipal Court.

He is being held on $1 million bail and will appear in court again Wednesday, according to court records.

Desha’s neighbor Kathleen Salvatore told WEWS News that the man struggled after his time in the Marines.

“He was also the kind of person that if someone was trying to mess with him, like a guy picking a fight with him, you’re going to get pummeled,” Salvatore told the station.

More than a dozen of Pearl’s relatives and family friends attended Monday’s arraignment, according to Cleveland-area media reports.

Bernita Ashford, one of Pearl’s relatives, could barely speak through her sobs as she talked to reporters Monday about the death of the family member they all called “Little Deb.”

“I’m angry because he did not have to kill her. It was no reason to kill her,” she said, Cleveland 19 News reported. “And shoot an innocent woman? Innocent! Defenseless! She survived the crash, and you murdered her! You murdered her! You murdered Little Deb! You took her away from us.”

The pain, Ashford told the station, was “like a stab in the heart. A stab in the family’s heart.”

Police have not yet determined a motive for the shooting and said they were not aware of any connection between Desha and Pearl. Solon police said their detectives and the Ohio attorney general’s Bureau of Criminal Identification are investigating.

“I think the worst part of it was just really the absolute randomness of it,” Solon police spokesman Lt. Bruce Felton told The Post.

On Monday, South East Harley-Davidson posted a Facebook tribute to Pearl, referring to her as a “friend and family member.”

Pearl worked six days a week at the Original Harley Diner inside the dealership, where she often played gospel music, joked and danced as she cooked breakfast on the grill, her co-workers told WEWS News.

Renee Basler, an assistant manager there, told the station she knew something was wrong on Saturday morning when Pearl was late for work.

“Debbie was like clockwork,” she told the station through tears. “I’m going to miss my friend.”

According to records at Mahoning County Court of Common Pleas, Desha was arrested in Mahoning County in May after police pulled him over and found a loaded 9mm handgun and three additional loaded magazines in his car. He was charged with felony carrying a concealed weapon and that case is awaiting grand jury action.
Good job there, didn't really raise any red flags did it?

And why the fuck are they even considering bail?

Deadliest year in two decades: Chicago records 500 homicides in nine months

CHICAGO, the third largest city in the United States, recorded its 500th homicide of the year over the Labor Day weekend, making 2016 already the city’s deadliest year in two decades.

A total of 13 people were killed over the course of the long weekend and at least 52 others were wounded in shootings across Chicago, according to police, making the Labor Day weekend the deadliest of the three US holiday weekends this summer.
This year’s Memorial Day weekend saw 69 shot, six of them fatally, and the Fourth of July weekend recorded 66 shot, five of them fatal.
Among those shot over the weekend was a woman who was nine months pregnant.
Crystal Myers, 23, was wounded in the stomach on the same block where someone had been killed less than 20 hours earlier, theChicago Tribune reports. Ms Myers gave birth Tuesday morning, both she and her baby are in a stable condition.
The latest fatal shooting occurred about 10.45pm on Monday when someone in a mini-van opened fire on a group of teens and young men, police said.
Two 22-year-old men were killed in the incident. Three others, aged 16, 17, and 20, were seriously wounded. Authorities said one of the men killed was a documented gang member.
The city’s grim toll comes after police recorded 92 murders in August, the deadliest month for Chicago since June 1996.
“It’s not a police issue, it’s a society issue,” Chicago police Superintendent Eddie Johnson told reporters outside police headquarters on Tuesday, saying his department is doing everything it can to control the violence.
