There are a lot of great things about the US, but there are a lot of things which are difficult to fathom as a supposed civilised country.

It's well and truly fucked up when the right to own a lethal weapon is of more importance to many than the safety of your children and other innocent members of society.

From the news, they are identifying some of the victims through DNA. The implications of that are quite horrifying.

Impact them to do what exactly? Make obtaining firearms harder when there's literally hundreds of millions of them and billions of rounds of ammunition already in circulation? Come up with some buy-back scheme to disarm the public, many (most?) of whom would rather die that give their guns up? This is before we even go down the road of the 2nd Amendment!

Can you imagine an 18 year old walking into a gunshop in any civilised country and able to buy two assault rifles and ammunition?

A nation of 332 million owning 500 million weapons??? More children die from gunplay than any other means now in the US. More people have died in the US from gunplay than all those Americans killed fighting in wars.

Truly, a fuckwitted country beyond redemption.

But then, Trump got elected so it's really just a fact of life, a significant proportion of Americans are fucking idiots.

I don't think you are being an ass (arse). You are right. This situation is sadly too far out of control for a simple one solution approach and anything they start today would take years to have an impact. I have always said ammunition needs to be closely governed. If you do not have a permit to buy it, then you can't get it and rounds should be limited. Right now any 18 year old can go buy up a buttload at any sporting shop. The only ammunition currently closely monitored is .50cal. Every purchase is logged and you better have a damn good reason to be buying it. Additionally making it extremely difficult to purchase a gun would also assist.

At this point there are so many available guns for sale by private parties that are not governed its staggering. I could easily pick up a 9MM with a few calls ( No paperwork), an AR15 if I really wanted to ask for a favor. I know guys that have 20 guns or more, most are collectors and go to the range. I want to go on and say that not all gun owners are crazy whackos. But what is scary now is that kids 12 to 18 years old are now shooting up places.

Anyway while we are all up in arms about this terrible situation, the sad reality is that it will not change. The near term hype, the BS about gun control that will now resurface and Biden will be asked to fix it like every President before him. The Why and how comes will soon be forgotten until the next unfortunate shooting.

I would agree, and those efforts are being taken.

That said, America is overtaken by trumpanzee morons. Most live in the shit horrid parts of America that no sensible tourist would travel, but nonetheless the fucking scum have a vote. The American system is rigged. Some states like North and fucking South Dakota were deliberately created to give the fucking Republicans more Senate votes. Same with North and South Carolina, and same for the Virginia's.

The post I made does protect the 2^nd amendment. Everyone can own a gun and purchase ammunition. But that person just has to jump through hoops (every year) to do so. Can’t have a criminal background either. Also grandfather gun owners in now for a period of 5 years before they’ll have to comply.

One more thing,.........the hoops that I describe in that post would deter most from owning a gun.

Edit: And the federal government would make money hand over fist to support compliance. :)

Do you have any idea how easy it is to get your hands on guns/ammo in America without having to walk into a gun shop or other licenced vendor, especially in states like Texas? Do you realise that if all guns sales were banned there starting tomorrow there'd still be roughly 500 million firearms in circulation that could change hands faster than a used blender at a fucking garage sale, just as they do now? No need to ban gun ownership outright. It doesn't take much to make it appear as anti social behaviour to have one in public though, much like smoking.

A different mental attitude towards guns is required before legislation can be introduced to limit ownership and use. This has to be carried out through the usual mass media channels. Big money is required to push the required coverage. Licence on a per firearm basis based on calibre and purpose would bring in the needed cash.

Well in states like Texas both are perfectly legal, so yeah. I think you need to be 18 to buy a drink in Texas though, but there's no minimum age limit on rifle ownership there.

Yeah that'll work. Got an assault rifle?
