Liberal Double Standards

Clint Eastwood directs a movie based on some truth and some lies. Why ruin a decent movie narrative by showing all the cards in the players hand ?

People want to feel good about their soldiers when they walk out of the theater and that's what this movie is about.
Showing soldiers doing a job they're trained to do under very nasty conditions.
Soldiers are trained to dehumanize their opponents. War is a pretty shitty business if you're a grunt. You simply follow orders.

Instead of Detective Callahan or a wronged cowboy taking out all the bad guys it's now a trained sniper doing his job of saving his comrades in arms.

There are usually several versions to the truth and sniper Kyle told some pretty wooly tales of other instances and about other occasions.
You can portray Kyle with respect as a hero or disdain as a villain ; Clintwood chose the former which happened to be particularly good timing after November's election results.

For Hollywood's directors and producers now would not be prudent to release an action movie based on Police Officers or SWAT teams doing the jobs they are trained to do nor of NFL footballers instilling family values.

^Pays his 51% of what he shows is taxable, same as all billionaires. Most of their money is in tax free heavens or tax free bonds. Moving the bulk of your business off-shore in yet another way to avoid such taxation.

Rich people have lots of advice for poor people, because they can afford it. Bill Gates Foundation, Buffet's Foundations all tax dodges, but in foreign lands, not their own country or their own countries poverty stricken or needy. Whys that?

Any product of Hollywood that purports to be based on a true story should be taken as anything but. It's easy to like American Sniper if you remember that Kyle, as depicted in the movie, is a fictionalized caricature. Evaluate the movie on story telling and craft not truth.

We glorify war and violence. We make heroes out of killers who are just "doing a job" as someone mentioned, an unnecessary job if people would just grow the fvck up. Let me summarise "American Sniper".

Bloke joins the army because he saw 9/11 on telly.

He shoots a load of Iraqis.

He goes home. His wife bleats at him to stay.

It's well filmed and the action sequences are well directed, but really there is bugger all to it.

However it does appear to have become a film version of a wank mag to the teabaggers.

Michael Moore alone must have contributed a quarter of the gross.
