Memories and history has been stricken from the Thai [and some Farang] spirit.
Thanks, Jack.
Was waiting for someone to mention something about Hok Tula.
be aware this one is gruesome
Anyone not aware of why the massacre happened it was a protest about the return of Thanom Kittikachorn.
Sure google will help you find him, though Best not to post anything.
It's unfortunate that there isn't a great interest or following for this historic venue.
In the past, the likes of DrBob; Tom Sawyer; and Mid [all gone, of course]; et al would've have been on this thread like flies on shit.
Both 1973 and 1976 [the worst in a series of related riots/massacres from 1957 through 2010] also had the full blessing of certain influential circles. Rather reflective of the reality of contemporary Thai history and certainly should tell you everything one needs to know as to the workings of Thai political affairs.
Maybe have a demonstration, followed by yet another massacre? Business as usual in the land of smiles.
Nothing on any of the media about it.
Was showing my wife some of the stuff, she'd heard about it, but not much, the sheer horror in her face said it all.
You're kidding- nothing about right wing military and paramilitary forces assaulting, raping and gruesomely killing pro-democracy student protesters on campus? Next thing you know Tak Bi, Red Drums, Village Scouts, and the 'Crackdown' will be forgotten too. Not.
Tis the Oct of happiness. Can't have downer discussion related to past October events.
"It seems any commemoration of the two October incidents will be low-profile. This is the October of happiness, and happiness is a painkiller whose first victim is memory. Naturally, it's hard to discuss the atrocities committed by the state and the labyrinthine politics that led to Oct 6 — the more heartbreaking of the two events — when the generals ruled and universities cowed at their feet, and when nationalism was prescribed in textbooks and morning recitals. The junta's command that all university seminars must be approved first by the authorities still echoes like gunfire. If that's the case, the second victim of enforced happiness is history."
