Keep on believing Putin is about to die- by assassination, illness or whatever. Or be thrown out by putsch. In spite of the fact that, at last count, he enjoys solid public support, and has reputedly sired another child. Keep on writing unlimited cheques to the Zelensky regime. That seems to me the underlying message here.

Does that seem so sensible to you? Russia is currently experiencing some of it's highest ever trade surpluses. Over half of the Ukraine has no electricity.

    Not blank cheques. Lend-Lease.

That's because their exports are decreasing slower than their imports. But both have decreased. Not exactly a win.

This is something that has been explained to you countless times, after which you don't mention it for a while and then trot it out again.
Russia's imports have been decimated by sanctions = no imports. If they sell you one Lada their surplus grows.

Knocked out by Russian missiles, directly aimed at the civilian population. In Russia:

Russians Grow, Share Food as Economy Struggles
Russia’s struggling economy has plunged millions of people into poverty as the Russian currency lost value and inflation soared. As prices have gone up, more Russians are relying on gardening to supply their food.

During Soviet food shortages, gardening at traditional Russian country homes — known as dachas — was a matter of survival.

But with Russia’s shrinking economy, even some modern families in Moscow are relying on vegetables from the garden.

“Our grandma has a dacha where she grows lots of things like cabbage and beets,” said accountant Irina Bulozhenko. “I am cooking borscht right now and I am using our beets and carrots. The onions are ours. So we are saving on what we have grown in summer. So that’s why we don’t feel it so badly.”

For some struggling families, growing their own food is still not enough.

Russian volunteers run a food-sharing program to collect restaurant extras and distribute them to those in need.

“For my family, food sharing is very important,” said donation recipient Tatyana Golubyeva. “We spend now a lot less on food than before, when we did not know about food sharing and did not use it. Now we hope that we’ll get not only bread, but some other food, as well.”

For Golubyeva’s family, food donations have cut their grocery bills in half.

“I think that food sharing has a big future and big prospects in Russia,” said food-sharing volunteer Svetlana Kalmykova. “The main thing is to inform the public about it, so that people learn what it is and what is needed to be done. I think that many will join.”

Meanwhile, Russians hope the economy recovers soon, so supplementing the high cost of food becomes less of a growing issue.

I don't know what rank he was but I'm quite certain e was. We've had several chats about his and my naval background, I'd say he is quite legit in this respect.

He's being an absolute cretin about the Russian war, but credit where credit is due.

WHY THE DEEP, VISCERAL, CRAZY HATRED OF PUTIN?

29 November 2022 by Larry Johnson 216 Comments

I am very serious in posing this question. I was born at the dawn of the Cold War and became a teenager in the sixties. I have never heard the level of hate expresses towards any world leader, including Pol Pot, comparable to the venom spewed at Vladimir Putin.

I could understand the fierce loathing of Putin if he had murdered millions of his citizens (like Pol Pot) or of other countries. Or if he was behind the overthrow of democratically elected governments using his old outfit, the KGB. I would not be asking this question if Putin had incarcerated the Uighurs in concentration camps and made them slave laborers.

If we are going to use the standard of “bad behavior” as the measure of whether a world leader is good or evil, I think there is a compelling case that China’s Xi Jinping, for example, is a more dastardly character than Putin in terms of his actions both domestically and internationally. Yet, members of the G-20 had no qualms about getting a photo with Xi but had to grab the fainting couch at the prospect of being snapped standing next to Putin.

I have never seen anything like this. It is juvenile, stupid and dangerous. Let me explain. The ground war in Ukraine has turned decisively against Ukraine. The combination of no electricity, limited weapon supplies from the West, no ability to produce new supplies inside Ukraine, no secure military training bases, manpower shortages and the onset of frosty winter temperatures has the Ukrainian military in a tough spot. Based on today’s reports, the Ukrainians now face the decision of retreating hurriedly from Bakhmut or remain in place and killed or captured. This will be a consequential defeat for Ukraine. So who does Ukraine (or the United States or the UK) negotiate with?

Putin is very aware of the insults and disdain cast his way by counterparts in the United States and Europe. He is in no rush to open talks with either Washington or Europe. Just this week Russia unilaterally cancelled talks on nuclear weapons with the United States:

.... Even in the depths of the Cold War, no U.S. President — from Truman to George H.W. Bush — entertained the kind of vitriol that Biden, his team and key members of Congress express towards President Putin. The U.S. side is operating under the delusion that Putin and Russia need the United States. I man, my God!, how can Russia survive without McDonalds or Dunkin Donuts? Well, guess what? Russia has discovered it does not need a single, damn thing from the United States.

But the United States sure as hell needs Russia. Russia’s position as one of the largest producers of fertilizer and uranium makes it essential to the United States. And Russia is well on its way to controlling the rich resources of Ukraine. I published the following list in a previous post, but it bears repeating.

..... Control of these resources will increase Russia’s economic leverage and make it more necessary for Western countries to deal with the government of Vladimir Putin.

So I return to my original question — Why the deep hatred for Vladimir Putin? I think there are two reasons. First, he refused to be the prison bitch of the West. He insisted that Russian national interests would take precedence over Western demands and pursued an independent path. For example, he responded to Syria’s request to help quell the Western-funded Islamic insurgency without asking Washington or Brussels for permission.

Second, he is sincere in promoting Christian values, including rejecting the LBGTQ agenda to normalize homosexuality. That has really hit a nerve in the West. It is an unpardonable sin. And Putin does not care what the West thinks. He is keen on promoting traditional family values and encouraging heterosexual reproduction. Putin ain’t woke.

At some point in the next six months, Ukraine will no longer have the resources and support to continue the war. Talking to Putin will become a critical priority. Will the West find a way to reforge normal relations with Russia? More importantly, will Russia want to engage them?

    What do you think?

He is an ex-analyst for the CIA. The fact that you do not like what he has to say might well concern you, but not me- but if you want to filter only 'happy things' and 'good news', you will need some good drugs- and a highly selective memory. I think his question is perfectly valid actually- I have often wondered the same thing myself.

    Michelle Obama hoax

Beginning in 2007, Johnson emerged as a strident opponent of Barack Obama's 2008 presidential campaign.[2] His rapid swing from the left to the right earned him the enmity of former allies.[2] According to The New York Times, Johnson is "best known for spreading a hoax... in 2008 that Michelle Obama had been videotaped using a slur against Caucasians".[1] His blog, NoQuarterUSA, often criticized Obama's qualifications to be president. On May 16, 2008, Johnson posted an item entitled, "Will Barack Throw Mama From the Train?" which alleged that a tape existed of Michelle Obama "railing against 'whitey' at Jeremiah Wright's church."[13][1] Johnson claimed that Republicans were in possession of the tape and it "is being held for the fall to drop at the appropriate time." In a subsequent post, Johnson claimed that Obama's appearance had occurred when she was on a panel with Louis Farrakhan. He also explained that he himself had not seen the tape, but had spoken with "five separate sources who have spoken directly with people who have seen the tape."[14] The Obama campaign's "Fight the Smears" website denied the rumor, saying, "No such tape exists. Michelle Obama has not spoken from the pulpit at Trinity and has not used that word."[15]

No tape was ever released, nor has any other evidence emerged of Obama using the word "whitey". On October 21, 2008, Johnson said that, according to one of his sources, the McCain campaign "intervened and requested the tape not be used."[16]

War crime accusations against John Kerry

In 2013, Johnson falsely accused John Kerry of war crimes in Vietnam, alleging that Kerry had "raped some poor Vietnamese woman."[17] To support his claim, Johnson used a YouTube video[18] that contained audio clips from a 1971 debate on The Dick Cavett Show between John Kerry and John O'Neill. The original interview[19] audio[20] was altered to piece together words that Kerry spoke at different times during the debate, falsely making it sound as if he said, "I personally raped for pleasure." When the falsehood was exposed by a reader of Johnson's blog, Johnson deleted the article without apology.[21]

Allegations that British intelligence wiretapped Donald Trump

In March 2017, Andrew Napolitano spread the unfounded conspiracy theory that GCHQ, one of Britain's top intelligence agencies, had wiretapped Donald Trump during the 2016 presidential campaign on orders from President Obama.[1][22] Johnson was the source for Napolitano's claim.[1][23] The conspiracy theory was later asserted as fact by President Trump, with him citing Fox News and Napolitano.[1] GCHQ responded, stating that the claims were "nonsense, utterly ridiculous and should be ignored".[24] Fox News later disavowed the statement by Napolitano.[1]

It is the people saying what the mainstream media does not want you to hear that are often the most interesting to listen to- and they are often proven right too.

Unless of course you have found them WMD, the fall of Kabul never happened, and the USA did not actually carpet bomb Laos and Cambodia during the VN war. And so on.
