I love the way the Americans on this thread are treating this as a game of gridiron, complete with pompom girls. It is a lot more serious than that, and using Ukrainian lives as your pawns in a meat grinder is distasteful to say the least. If you think 'victory' is just around the corner you are delusional.

It is much worse than distasteful to ignore the unconditional will of the Ukrainian people, to defend their freedom at any cost.

Coming from the idiot who was cheerleading this invasion from the start - even though he thought it wasn't going to happen - that's almost as funny as hoohoo taking a sudden interest in sovereign states.

The fact is Putin has made a fucking mess of things and Ukraine are making his military look feeble and disorganised.

Does it ever cross your mind that maybe Ukrainians are fighting for Ukraine?

CinC Zaluzhnyi on mobilization in Russia We will destroy anyone who comes to our land

No statements by the Russian military and political leadership will affect Ukraine's resolve to fight for its freedom.

That’s according to Valeriy Zaluzhnyi, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, who issued a statement via Telegram, Ukrinform reports.

"For 8 years and 7 months, the Armed Forces of Ukraine have been repelling Russia’s armed aggression against our country. The enemy’s full-scale offensive didn’t frighten us. Moreover, we united and confronted the enemy with dignity. The mobilization announcement in Russia is a confirmation of this, fact" said Zaluzhnyi.

He noted that hundreds of thousands of men and women are protecting their native land, their homes, their children, and the future of Ukraine.

"Therefore, no statements by the military and political leadership of the aggressor power will affect our resolve to fight for our freedom. We will destroy anyone who comes to our land up in arms – be it voluntarily or through mobilization," said Zaluzhnyi.

As Ukrinform reported earlier, Russian President Putin this morning made a statement in support of "referenda" on accession to Russia of the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine, as well as declared partial mobilization in Russia starting September 21.

The statement was accompanied by unveiled nuclear blackmail as he threatened to employ nuclear weapons to "protect Russian territories."

Putin’s Latest Keynote Speech Concisely Summarized The State Of Strategic Play In Ukraine

After reflecting on his words, there’s no doubt that the state of strategic play in Ukraine remains in Russia’s favor, which is the reason why the state of strategic play across the world also remains in favor of the emerging multipolar order.

President Putin addressed his compatriots Wednesday morning in a nationally televised speech that culminated in him informing them of his decision to partially mobilize their country’s experienced reserves. He also promised to respect the democratic will of the people inhabiting the liberated areas of Ukraine’s former Donetsk, Kherson, Lugansk, and Zaporozhye Regions if they vote in their forthcoming referenda this weekend to unify with Russia. It was a keynote speech and indisputably his most important one since announcing the start of his country’s special operation on 24 February.

In fact, the first fifth of his latest speech rehashed the highlights of the aforementioned one by reminding his fellow Russians why he made the fateful decision that he did. Upon refreshing their memories, he then updated them on the state of strategic play in Ukraine. Their newly restored world power’s slow but steady progress over the past seven months was explained by the need to carefully erode Kiev’s “deeply echeloned line of fortified defenses” and thus avert heavy losses. President Putin also mentioned how this minimized civilian casualties due to Kiev’s policy of taking human shields.

Another point that he brought up was that a peaceful solution was almost found early on into the special operation throughout the course of the Istanbul talks, but the West scuttled this outcome by ordering Kiev to wreck all the agreements “after certain compromises were coordinated”. The last part could be interpreted as a vague reference to the Russian Armed Forces’ prior pullback from the Ukrainian capital that Moscow insisted was a goodwill gesture aimed at facilitating the peace process and which in hindsight also served the purpose of a military feint.

The conflict continued after that point purely because NATO pumped its proxy full of arms, fighters, and intelligence. This coincided with Kiev cracking down on dissidents much more ruthlessly than it ever had before, which thus far climaxed in the atrocities that are presently being carried out against civilians in the Kharkov Region following Russia’s recent setback there. In fact, it’s that ongoing violence that President Putin said pushed the people from the liberated Ukrainian regions that historically were part of Novorossiya into organizing this weekend’s referenda on joining Russia in order to seek protection.

With the line of contact now stretching over 1,000 kilometers and pitting Russia against “the entire military machine of the Collective West” as President Putin rightly described it, the decision was made to commence the partial mobilization of his country’s experienced reserves. He explained their compensation and rights in order to reassure his compatriots that they’ll be treated with the highest respect for defending their country from the existential threat posed by the US-led NATO proxy war on Russia through Ukraine.

About that, President Putin also raised maximum awareness of how the West is encouraging Kiev to directly attack their country, including through the spree of terrorist attacks it carried out in the border areas. He also informed his compatriots that the West is actively surveilling Russia’s southern regions in real time through the most modern systems in preparation of attacking them exactly as Washington, London, and Brussels have openly talked about their Ukrainian proxy doing. In fact, some leading NATO countries are even discussing the possibly of nuking Russia, which he described as “nuclear blackmail”.

It'll never succeed, President Putin said, since he reminded everyone about his country’s own cutting-edge weapons and explicitly said that he’ll employ all means at his disposal to defend the Russian people and their territorial integrity. Considering the context of the upcoming referenda being held in the liberated areas of those four former Ukrainian regions on joining Russia, it can be understood that he was implying that they’ll also be covered under Moscow’s nuclear umbrella in the likely event that their people vote to unify with their historical Motherland.

President Putin then closed by referencing his global revolutionary manifesto from July about Russia’s role in the systemic transition to multipolarity by declaring that “It is our historical tradition and the destiny of our nation to stop those who are keen on global domination and threaten to split up and enslave our Motherland. Rest assured that we will do it this time as well.” After reflecting on his words, there’s no doubt that the state of strategic play in Ukraine remains in Russia’s favor, which is the reason why the state of strategic play across the world also remains in favor of the emerging multipolar order.

World reacts to Putin’s partial mobilisation plans in Ukraine war

    Ukraine

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said he did not believe the world would allow Vladimir Putin to use nuclear weapons and pledged to press on with liberating Ukrainian territory captured by Russian forces.

    NATO

NATO’s Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg has said that Putin’s military mobilisation is a “dangerous and reckless” nuclear rhetoric. The NATO chief also warned that more troops will escalate the conflict in Ukraine.

    United Kingdom

“No amount of threats and propaganda can hide the fact that Ukraine is winning this war, the international community are united and Russia is becoming a global pariah.”

    United States

“It’s definitely a sign that he is struggling,” Kirby said. “He has suffered tens of thousands of casualties. He has terrible morale, unit cohesion on the battlefield. Command and control has still not been solved. He’s got desertion problems and he’s forcing the wounded back into the fight – so clearly manpower is a problem.”

    Germany

The German chancellor sees in Russia’s partial military mobilisation signs that Moscow’s attack on Ukraine is not successful, a government spokesperson said. Regarding Putin’s plans for four occupied regions to hold referendums in the coming days on joining Russia, the spokesperson said that Russian “sham referendums” would never be recognised.

    European Union

The European Union’s executive said Putin’s partial mobilisation decree proved that the Russian president was “in desperation” and only seeking to escalate the crisis. “This is just another proof that Putin is not interested in peace, that he’s interested in escalating this war of aggression,” a foreign policy spokesman for the European Commission, Peter Stano, told a news conference.

    Estonia

Prime Minister Kaja Kallas has said Putin’s announcement was “meant to scare the international community”.
“As for nuclear threats, the aim is the same as it has been so far – it is to fuel fear and terrorise the wider public. The Kremlin is blackmailing the international community and wants to scare us and deter us from helping Ukraine. Europe will not tire,” she added.

    Netherlands

Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte said Russia’s mobilisation order is a sign of panic at the Kremlin, which should not be taken as a direct threat of full-out war with the West. “The mobilisation, calling for referenda in the Donetsk, it is all a sign of panic. His rhetoric on nuclear weapons is something we have heard many times before, and it leaves us cold,” Rutte told Dutch broadcaster NOS.

    Czech Republic

Prime Minister Peter Fiala said Putin mobilisation move was an attempt to “further escalate” the war and it was proof that Russia is the “sole aggressor”. “It is needed to help Ukraine, and in our own interest, we must continue with it,” he added.

Not the millions of Ukraine citizens who fled the country upon it being announced. Of the rest there will be some and there will be others who are being forced to fight by the local Ukraine puppet and thugs.

You seem to believe that Ukraine is capable of waging and winning a war against Russia, without the 16% "assistance".

He showed up, gave a speech dripping in bs and lies, then left before anyone could respond.

And why tf wouldn't a number of people leave a country about to be invaded by Russian forces? The Russians clearly couldn't care less about the Geneva convention, and are castrating and raping to their sick heart's content.

    What would you have done?

The only end to this is coming from within Russia and that is Putin being marched out the back and getting the bullet on a cold Russian pavement. Until that day comes, all hold onto your balls, this is going to get nasty.

Why Ukraine referendum is a big deal

"The referendum on September 23-27 in the Donbass and southern Kherson and Zaporozhye regions of Ukraine on their accession to Russian Federation is, prima facie, an exercise of the right of self-determination by the native population who reject the western-backed regime change in Kiev in 2014 and the ascendancy of extreme nationalist forces with neo-Nazi leanings in the power structure.

But it has other dimensions, too. In all probability, the referendum will overwhelmingly opt for accession to Russian Federation. In Donbass, it is a straightforward question:

“Do you support the entry of the DPR into the Russian Federation as a subject of the Russian Federation?”

For Kherson and the Zaporozhye Cossacks, the referendum ascertains three sequential decisions:

    1. Secession of these territories from Ukraine?;

    2. The formation of an independent state?;

    3. Its entry into the Russian Federation as a subject".

In 2014, all legal procedures for the admission of Crimea and Sevastopol to the Russian Federation were completed in four days. An expeditious process can be expected this time around too. There is huge mass support within Russia for reunification with the ethnic Russian populations in the eastern and southern regions of Ukraine who suffered severe persecution during the past 8-year period, including brutal violence, at the hands of extremist Ukrainian nationalist elements in control of the state apparatus. This is a highly emotive issue for the Russian people.

In the post-cold war era, the genie of self-determination was first let out of the bottle by the West during the dismemberment of the former Yugoslavia. Although the US midwifed the secession of Kosovo from Serbia as far back as in 1999 -2008, the entity is yet to be accorded recognition by the UN. Serbia rejects the secession, despite sustained western pressure.

That said, the Kosovo precedent will not stop the western powers from condemning the accession of regions of Ukraine to the Russian Federation.

The big question today is about the Russian calculus. President Vladimir Putin has surely factored in that the accession of the “Russian regions” of eastern and southern Ukraine is an immensely popular decision in the domestic opinion. He has never hidden that he is acutely sensitive about the hopes and aspirations of his nation. The most revealing (and authoritative) comments on this topic have come from the former President Dmitry Medvedev.

Medvedev wrote in his Telegram channel:

“Referendums in Donbass are of great importance not only for the systemic protection of the inhabitants of the LNR, DNR (Donbass) and other liberated territories, but also for the restoration of historical justice.”

In Medvedev’s opinion, these plebiscites “completely change the vector of Russia’s development for decades.” He adds, “And not only our country. Because after they (referendums) are held and the new territories are accepted into Russia, the geopolitical transformation in the world will become irreversible.”

    Most important, Medvedev forewarns,

“An encroachment on the territory of Russia is a crime, the commission of which allows you to use all the forces of self-defence.

Furthermore, he says, once the process of annexation of the new territories is completed,

“not a single future leader of Russia, not a single official will be able to reverse these decisions. That is why these referendums are so feared in Kiev and in the West. That is why they need to be carried out.”

What emerges is that Russia has given up hopes of any negotiated settlement.

Moscow was initially optimistic that Kiev would negotiate, but the bitter experience turned out to be that President Zelensky was not a free agent. The US-UK tandem undermined the accord negotiated by Russian and Ukrainian officials in Istanbul in April under Turkish mediation. The Biden Administration holds the stop watch for the proxy war. And Washington’s timeline is linked to the weakening and destruction of Russian state, which has been the ultimate US objective.

Lest we forget, Joe Biden played a seminal role in installing the new regime in Kiev in 2014 and in moulding Ukraine as an anti-Russian state.

Suffice to say, the referendum on Wednesday is Russia’s only available course of action under the circumstances, while Kiev maintains a maximalist position as advised by the US, UK and Poland.
The accession of Donbass, Kherson and Zaporozhye creates a new political reality and Russia’s partial mobilisation on a parallel track is intended to provide the military underpinning for it. The accession signifies a paradigm shift insofar as any further attacks on these regions can be construed by Moscow as attacks on Russia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty.

Certainly, Kiev’s wanton attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure in Donbass, Kherson and Zaporozhye will trigger Russian reaction. Any attack will be considered aggression and Moscow reserves the right to respond “adequately.” The fact the Russian deployment in these territories will be significantly augmented and upgraded signals the willingness to use force.

Meanwhile, Russia’s special military operations will continue until its set objectives are fully realised. Which means, even more territories may come under Russian control, creating ever newer facts on the ground, whilst the track of dialogue has become extinct. And, of course, all this will be playing out at a juncture when Europe descends into recession, as sanctions against Russia boomerang.

It is improbable that European public will support their governments to enter into a war with Russia over Ukraine. Kiev and its mentors in Washington and London need to factor all this very carefully.

The Pentagon spokesman Patrick Ryder has reacted as follows:

“No one will take such bogus referendums seriously, and the US will certainly not recognise their results. How will this affect our and international support for Ukraine? This will not affect in any way, we will continue to work with Ukraine and our international partners to provide them with the necessary assistance to protect their territory.”

That is a sufficiently evasive statement couched in brave words. Neither Pentagon nor the Russian military command will risk brinkmanship. The likelihood is that the accession of the new territories to the Russian Federation will not be militarily challenged by the US or NATO.

That said, Russia is anyway at war with the NATO, as Defence Minister Sergey Shoigu said, albeit not in terms of US weapons supplies, which “we find ways to counter,” but in the Western systems that exist — communication systems, information processing systems, reconnaissance systems and satellite intelligence systems.

The point is, the accession of Donbass, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions to the Russian Federation is an irrevocable step that cannot and will not be undone for as long as Russian Federation remains an independent state, as Medvedev underlined. The US — and the “Collective West” and NATO — would know it. Plainly put, the NATO’s proxy-war algorithm has become obsolete and becomes a museum piece.

The CIA’s analogy of the Afghan jihad of the 1980s does not hold good anymore — ie., if it ever did at all. In effect, Russia has avoided a “quagmire” in Ukraine and is on its way to turn the table on the NATO.

In Putin’s national address Wednesday, he had said:

“In the event of a threat to the territorial integrity of our country and to defend Russia and our people, we will certainly make use of all weapon systems available to us. This is not a bluff.” Putin also said Russia has superior nuclear strike capability.

To make things doubly sure that the message has gone home, Moscow lifted the veil today on its newest ICBM, Sarmat. The results of the referendum must be determined not later than 5 days after the last voting day (Sept. 27), and the issue of accession to Russia is considered approved if more than 50% of the plebiscite participants vote for it.

Significantly, the Russian State Duma is scheduled to hold plenary sessions in Moscow on September 27 and 28. "

One wonders if the 16% will allow, a legally binding, democratic election, to be safely conducted.

One hopes for no slaughtering of men, women and children at the polling stations, utilising the 16%'s supplied and manned military weapons.

The "optics" would not be very pretty.
