Construction of Nord Stream 2 completed — Gazprom
According to Gazprom, 5.6 bln cubic meters of gas can be supplied through the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline this year
10 Sep, 14:35
"The construction of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline was fully completed on the morning of September 10, Gazprom said in a statement. "At a morning operational meeting of Gazprom, Chairman of the Board Alexey Miller said that at 8:45 Moscow time, the construction of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline has been fully completed," the statement said.
It was reported earlier that the project operator had finished laying the last pipe of the Nord Stream 2. The company expects to commission the gas pipeline by the end of the year.
According to Gazprom, 5.6 bln cubic meters of gas can be supplied through the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline this year.
Bloomberg, citing sources, reported that Gazprom plans to start supplying gas through the first string of Nord Stream 2 from October 1, and through both - by December 1.
Nord Stream 2 includes two lines of the gas pipeline with a total capacity of 55 bln cubic meters per year from the coast of Russia through the Baltic Sea to Germany. The work was suspended in December 2019 after Swiss Allseas abandoned pipe-laying due to the threat of US sanctions. Since December 2020, the construction of the gas pipeline has been resumed."

Wondering when the ships would say, we will not sail through Panama (too dear), will we also bomb them? (the ships...)
A good thing too. A major country like Germany, or the EU bloc, cannot afford to have it's critical energy requirements held to ransom or dictated by fickle American geopolitics. Pull yer damn head in.

You may wish to review this, it's an EU document.
From where do we import energy?
From where do we import energy?
Funny how this news gets released around the time the relatives of MH17 are calling Putin a murderous bastard, isn't it?
^Wondering what kind of justice is to call relatives of the victims to the court where the evidence of the culprits is to be determined.
What kind of evidence the relatives can provide? Just crying at the court will prove something?
(But for people like 'arry and Co. is any "evidence" good, isn't it?)
Another day, another deluge of shite from Klondick and OhNo.
Hmm
If not politics, then it is a head shaken project to lay a pipeline from Norway to Poland, all across Denmark, who are paying the bill.
If it's business, we should pass on the bill, shouldn't we ?
Find someone to change your nappy, junior.
Or do you have something to add to the debate ?
Thought not

Moscow expects US Embassy to report real reason for Sullivan’s summoning — diplomat
Earlier, the embassy claimed that John Sullivan was summoned to the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs to "discuss bilateral relations" and Joe Biden’s intent for stable and predictable relations with Moscow
MOSCOW, September 10. /TASS/. Russia expects that the US Embassy in Moscow will report the true reason for the summoning of Ambassador John Sullivan to the Foreign Ministry, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said in her Telegram channel Friday.
"I’ve seen three [different] reasons for the summoning of the US envoy to the Russian Foreign Ministry. Actually, the Foreign Ministry did the summoning, and the Foreign Ministry knows the true reason for it," Zakharova said. "There is only one reason - the interference in the Russian elections. We hope this is what the US diplomats will report back to Washington, not what the US embassy said in its detached from reality press release."
Earlier, the US Embassy claimed that Sullivan was summoned to the Ministry to "discuss bilateral relations" and Joe Biden’s intent for stable and predictable relations with Moscow.
On Friday, Sullivan visited the Russian Foreign Ministry where he met with Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov. The Foreign Ministry stated that the Russian diplomat presented the US envoy with proof of US IT giants’ violation of the Russian law ahead of the State Duma elections and pointed at the unacceptability of meddling in Russia’s internal affairs.

Google, Apple remove Navalny app from stores as Russian elections begin
MOSCOW, Sept 17 (Reuters) - Alphabet's Google (GOOGL.O) and Apple (AAPL.O) have removed jailed Kremlin critic Alexei Navalny's tactical voting app from their stores, his team said on Friday, after Russia accused the U.S. tech firms of meddling in its internal affairs.
Russia goes to the polls on Friday to elect a new parliament in a three-day vote that the ruling United Russia party is expected to win despite a ratings slump after the biggest crackdown on the Kremlin's critics in years. read more
Allies of Navalny, President Vladimir Putin's fiercest domestic opponent, planned to use the mobile app to organise a tactical voting campaign to deal a blow to United Russia.
Russia demanded this month that Apple and Google remove the app from their stores, saying a refusal to do so would be treated as meddling in its parliamentary election.
Apple and Google did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
On Thursday, Russia said official approaches had been made to the two companies' chief executives. read more
Ivan Zhdanov, a Navalny ally based abroad, said on Friday the removal amounted to political censorship.

Skripal poisonings: Scotland Yard charges third Russian man suspected to be member of GRU intelligence agency | World News | Sky NewsBritain has named and charged a third Russian military intelligence officer over the Salisbury spy poisonings, in a significant development that will enrage Russia.
Police said Denis Sergeev - who used the alias Sergey Fedotov - is wanted in connection with the attempted assassination of former Russian spy Sergei Skripal and his daughter Yulia with a novichok nerve agent in March 2018, along with two other suspects.
Scotland Yard believes they are all members of the GRU, Russia's military intelligence agency, and that they have worked together in other countries on operations.
It is the first time the police have said they have evidence that the men are part of the Russian spy agency. The then prime minister Theresa May has previously accused the GRU.
"The three operated as a small team with a view to deploying novichok to kill individuals in this country," said deputy assistant commissioner Dean Haydon.
"I can prove they were here operating as a unit linked to the GRU," he told a news briefing.
Mr Haydon also signalled there could be more suspects in the Skripal case and that this was an active line of inquiry.

Hungary inks new gas supply agreement with Russia, bypassing Ukraine
27 Sep, 2021 14:55
"Budapest signed a new long-term contract on Monday with Russia’s energy giant Gazprom for gas supplies bypassing Ukraine, Reuters reports. The agreement was sealed by Gazprom CEO Aleksey Miller and Hungarian energy group MVM executives at the Hungarian Foreign Ministry.
The deal was signed after Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto announced last month that Budapest had agreed with Moscow on all the conditions for a new supply contract to take effect from October 1.
The minister said that under the new deal, Hungary will buy gas “at a much better price than under the expiring contract,” which was signed in 2020.
According to Szijjarto, the duration of the new agreement with Gazprom would be 15 years, with a clause to change purchased quantities after 10 years. The price had also been agreed.
Gazprom would ship 4.5 billion cubic meters of natural gas to Hungary annually, Szijjarto said, adding that some 3.5 billion cubic meters will come via Serbia and 1 billion cubic meters via Austria."

Serbia, Hungary complete construction of cross-border gas link

"Serbian state-owned natural gas monopoly Srbijagas and Hungary's national gas transmission network operator FGSZ have completed the construction of a cross-border interconnection allowing exports through the TurkStream pipeline of Russia's Gazprom, Srbijagas said.
"We can already say that from October 1, we will be able to transport the first quantities of transit gas to Central Europe via Serbia. In order to achieve this, many technical and regulatory details had to be resolved in Brussels, in the Energy Community and with national regulatory bodies, and we did it with great success," the general manager of Srbijagas, Dusan Bajatovic, said in a statement on Sunday.
Under the investment plan, the gas link will have an annual capacity to carry 6 billion cubic metres of gas per year which will be reached on October 1, 2021, FGSZ said in June 2020.
In December 2019, Serbia completed the laying on its territory of about 400 km of pipes of a string of the TurkStream pipeline of Russia's Gazprom for the transit of natural gas to Europe from Turkey via Bulgaria, Serbia and Hungary. The country received the first quantities of natural gas through Bulgaria in December 2020. Serbia will receive 13.88 billion cubic metres of gas per year through the pipeline, Bajatovic said back then."

A transit country, Serbia collects long term, freely negotiated, annual fees.
A receiving countries government agrees to assist in keeping its population warm. Year after, year after, ....

It will be something subtle like "Support us on the xxxxxx vote in the UN or we will cut your gas off".
If only the world were as simple as that. Nord stream 2 was necessary as it cuts out the potential of however many countries the initial pipes run through.
This idea, though, that Germany is totally beholden to Russia for its energy supplies is ridiculous - do you really think Germany - or any country - would simply place all its eggs in one basket?
Nord Stream 2: Wird Deutschland jetzt abhangig vom russischen Gas?
I know it's in German as it's difficult to get unbiased and detailed info in English-language publications, but basically it says that 35% of the used energy in Germany comes from oil, 25% gas - of which half comes from Russia - meaning that 13% of the energy used is from Russian gas - etc...
Hardly the doom and gloom scenario of utter servitude . . . added to which the proposed sanctions (by Germany, the EU and the US) declared if Russia uses its gas for political gain go further than any others.
Also, the quantity of gas pumped through the pipes will not only go to Germany but will go further to other European countries.
It seems US hyperbole has been successful. Russia is dependent on Germany - and the EU - for the majority of its income and Germany can last without Russian gas for five months, minimum - and has standing contracts with other countries that currently supply the energy sector . . . and imports can be increased.
So, it's hardly as bad as the media make it sound, but it does make for a good bad-guy story and Germany has been importing gas/oil from Russia for 50 years and this has always been a thorn in the US' side - geopolitics at play.
At the end of the day Germany isn't beholden to Russia for its energy-needs and the pipeline will probably lower energy-costs in Europe. Win-Win.
Perhaps you can google translate the following article, it's quite detailed and factual:
Nord Stream 2: Wird Deutschland jetzt abhangig vom russischen Gas? | MDR.DE
Or allow any other country to effectively have a veto over it's essential energy requirements. Nordstream 2 was good for Russia, Germany and the EU. I don't think the US won any western European friends by trying to sabotage the whole thing in it's late stages of construction- and friends like Ukraine you can do without.do you really think Germany - or any country - would simply place all its eggs in one basket?
In Germany or in general?
The US has been opposing it since day one - the perceived loss of influence was their driving factor - insecure schmucks. Germany has been and is firmly rooted in the 'west' but that does not mean the country can't have cordial relations with others.
Merkel hasn't been backward in criticising Putin and placing sanctions on Russia or Russians close to him - she grew up under Soviet occupation and is fluent in Russian and knows the Russian psyche well . . . Putin lived in Germany and is fluent in German but only knows the former East German psyche personally.
Any new German leader, irrespective of their political leanings, will follow Merkel's successful policies vis-a-vis Russia . . . and Russian won't cut its own throat by holding their Damocles sword over a major European country.
