'It's All a Fantasy': Steven Seagal Blasts 'Russian Collusion,' Talks Friendship With Putin, Siberian Governor's Race Rumor

American action star Steven Seagal, who holds citizenship in the U.S. and Russia, and spends a lot of time in the country, reacted to the Trump-Russia collusion narrative, his friendship with President Putin and a rumor that he is considering a run for governor of Siberia.

Seagal said that the Siberian rumor was the product of "fake news" reporting on a joke he made while visiting Vladivostok.

He said that a man recognized him, and shouted that Siberia did not have a governor and asked if the actor would take the role. Seagal said he responded in jest but that the media took it seriously.

"One of the millions of the fake news sort of stories," Seagal, whom Putin has designated a "special envoy" to the United States, said.

Regarding the collusion narrative, Seagal said that it is a situation where "there is a tremendous amount of propaganda against Russia."

Russia’s top diplomat warns Ukraine won’t be able to hold NATO drills in Azov Sea

The top diplomat says that owing to a bilateral treaty signed by Kiev and Moscow, Ukraine won’t be able to hold joint NATO drills in the Sea of Azov because this will require Russia’s consent

MOSCOW, October 18. /TASS/. Owing to a bilateral treaty signed by Kiev and Moscow, Ukraine won’t be able to hold joint NATO drills in the Sea of Azov because this will require Russia’s consent, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said in an interview with RT France, Paris Match and Figaro on Thursday.

"Now Ukraine wants to hold NATO drills in the Sea of Azov but it will be impossible to go there because our treaty with Ukraine requires mutual consent for the passage of warships into the Sea of Azov," Russia’s top diplomat specified.

"But they want this and they are being actively goaded into this," Lavrov stressed.

NATO is already highly active near the Russian borders, the Russian foreign minister noted.

"[We are witnessing] an arms build-up on our borders along with the drive to upgrade the transport infrastructure in Europe so that it can be easier for US heavy armaments and, perhaps, the armaments of other NATO countries to choose our borders; [in addition to] blatantly provocative drills - not ours with China in Siberia - but military exercises in Ukraine, Georgia and in the Black Sea," Russia’s top diplomat emphasized.

Ukraine has been actively holding military drills with NATO on its soil since 2014. The Clean Sky-2018 aviation drills are running in the Khmelnitskaya Region in Ukraine from October 8-19 with the participation of the air forces from Belgium, the United Kingdom, Denmark, Estonia, the Netherlands, Poland, Romania and the United States.

Also, Kiev has been lately laying its claims to the Sea of Azov where military activity is regulated by an agreement with Russia. Exercises by the Ukrainian armed forces were held on the coast of the Sea of Azov in October.

Russia is not going to persuade Europeans to lift anti-Russian sanctions, said by Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev at the press conference following the talks with Belgian Prime Minister Charles Michel, TASS reported.

“Lifting sanctions is a mutually beneficial matter and we should not persuade our partners to cancel anything, we don’t need it,” Medvedev said.

He also said that “our European colleagues need it, they should start an initiative themselves”.

“If they don’t want to, we will continue living with sanctions,” he added.

The prime minister recalled that sanctions are not ‘a matter of life and death’ for Russia. “We did not start imposing these sanctions and it is not us who should terminate them,” he added. The head of the Cabinet noted that the USSR lived for decades under sanctions and ‘nothing happened’.

Earlier, Medvedev cited data showing that the total loss of the European Union is about 100 billion euros. He announced in May that it was impossible to cancel the Russian counter-sanctions.

“It is impossible to do it. Of course, there should be mutuality. I am not even speaking about the fact that the sanctions on food imports were greeted by our farmers,” he said.

"Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday had a 90-minute meeting with visiting US National Security Adviser John Bolton. The sides agreed that dialogue between the two nations is needed, despite the gaps in their positions.

Bearing this in mind, the Russian leader suggested a meeting with his US counterpart, Donald Trump, be organized on the sidelines of the next international event in Paris on November 11.

"Naturally, it would be useful to offer direct dialogue with the president of the United States, first of all, on the sidelines of upcoming international events, say, in Paris," Putin said, obviously referring to the celebrations of the 100th anniversary of the end of World War I. "Of course, if the American side is interested in these contacts."

Bolton reassured Putin that President Trump would be glad to see him. He agreed that dialogue between Moscow and Washington would be useful, despite the existing gaps.

Putin’s last meeting with Trump and their only full-scale bilateral talks were held in Helsinki on July 16. Before that, the two leaders had a number of brief meetings on the sidelines of international summits.

Senseless sanctions

The Russian leader noted that Moscow is surprised by unfriendly steps the United States has taken following a quite constructive summit in Helsinki in July.

"The way I see it, it was a useful, at times tough conversation, but in the final count a constructive one," Putin said about his talks with US President Donald Trump in Finland. "Honestly, we are sometimes surprised to see the United States take absolutely unprovoked steps towards Russia that we cannot regard as friendly. We even refrain from retaliation practically to any move of yours. Yet all this goes on and on."

Nevertheless, according to the Russian president, trade turnover between Russia and the United States keeps growing despite Washington’s anti-Russian sanctions. "Despite all of your ‘efforts’ trade turnover between our countries keeps growing, however strange this might seem," Putin said. "Last year it was up 16% and this year, 8%."

"True, in real terms this is very little, but at the same time such trend does exist. Incidentally, the US has a surplus," he said.

Putin pointed out that mutual investment had grown. "Russian investment in the American economy are twice that of US investment in Russia," he said.

Issues of strategic stability

Apart from that, Putin suggested exchanging opinions on strategic issues and the issues of disarmament.

"We know and we talk much about the US unilateral withdrawal from the anti-ballistic missile treaty and recently we have heard about the US intention to quit the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty," he said. "We know about the doubts in the [US] administration about the need to extend the New START Treaty and we hear about the intention to deploy some elements of the missile shield in outer space."

Bolton, in turn, said he hoped he could answer Putin’s questions.

At the beginning of the meeting, Putin jokingly offered his interpretation of the Great Seal of the United States. "As far as I remember, the Great Seal of the United States features a bald eagle holding a bundle of 13 arrows in its left talon and an olive branch with 13 leaves and 13 olives, as a symbol of peaceful policy, in its right talon," he said. "My question is: has the bald eagle pecked all the olives leaving only arrows?"

In reply, Bolton admitted he had brought no olive branch. "Just as I thought," Putin said smilingly. With this said, Bolton pointed that the eagle is holding the olive branch in its right talon this way demonstrating its priorities.

Putin recalled that in its beak the eagle holds a scroll with the motto E Pluribus Unum, or "Out of Many, One." "That is why, despite the different approaches, we can and must try to find these points of contact," Putin added."

Russia’s energy major Rosneft will build a new liquefied natural gas (LNG) plant in partnership with US ExxonMobil, Japan's SODECO and India's ONGC Videsh, Reuters reports.

The estimated $15 billion cost would be spread among the four firms, according to the news agency’s information. Rosneft, Exxon, SODECO and ONGC Videsh are all partners in the Sakhalin-1 LNG project. The new plant was intended to be built by Rosneft and Exxon, but the project was later joined by Indian and Japanese firms.

Sakhalin-1 is led by Exxon with a 30 percent stake. Another 30 percent belongs to SODECO, while Rosneft and ONGC Videsh own 20 percent each. LNG is not a subject of the anti-Russian sanctions, but Russian companies are facing problems with getting loans abroad.

On Tuesday, the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) announced Saudi Arabia is ready to invest $5 billion in the Arctic LNG 2 project. Novatek is planning to sell up to 40 percent of the project to foreign partners.

The recent announcement that Germany would build a LNG terminal was taken by goldilocks as a win for his policies.

In reality the LNG plant will be able to accept LNG from many sources, including Russian and ME sources.

In addition a recent report from Oxford Energy suggests Russia is also looking for a 4th pipeline to Germany. NS1 is active, NS2 under construction, SS under construction which leaves a possible NS3 as another economic option.
