The Ukraine was moving slowly along. The US and others instigated a coup and installed an unelected government. Had that not happened would we be where we are now? Who knows.

The events in the Crimea claimed a very few lives, very few. Compare that to regime change in Afghanistan, Mali, Sudan, Iraq, Libya .......... and the ongoing Syrian war. The numbers were in 100,000s if not millions.

With regards to the Eastern Ukraine who is doing the killing? Who has cities surrounded by tanks, artillery, mass troops and mercenaries, aircraft swooping overhead, helicopters disgorging troops? Russia for sure has its military sitting on the border of it's own country, do you expect them to pull them back to Vladivostok to even out the response time with the USA?

Try and look at the real facts about Yugoslavia and who wanted it split up and why. The world turned it's back on them and NATO obliterated more 100,000's of mostly unarmed men women and children. All of course from their comfortable seats in an airplane at 30,000 feet or an armchair piloting the drone attacks from Munich.

Russia does have troops on the ground in Crimea and very most certainly in eastern Ukraine. Putin admitted publicly that he lied about Russian troops being the ones that took control over Crimea. the thing about the IMF is it is not about membership- anyone can be a member if they like, it is about taking money from them and being in debt to the IMF, who in return enforce pro US business policy down their collective throats. When Russia came in from the cold, they were pretty much thrown to the IMF sharks out of desperation. However, today, they do not owe them a dime and have not for a while. They cleared their debt in 2005 (one of the reason the west despise Putin so much) and from then on, pretty much, Russia has started to spread their wings in terms of foreign policy again.

Ukraine was not in debt to the IMF. The first thing that happened when the US banker shill was dropped into the leadership role, after the US sponsored coup, was to get into hock to the tune of $17b - almost as if this was part of the deal of him getting the job. The conditions attached? 50% increase in domestic gas price, to weaken their currency, cut "red tap and corruption" (which makes it easier for US business to step in) and by doing so, they will get even more lovely debt from the USA to the tune of $10b. How nice for them.

Sold down the river. 100%.

Maybe losing Crimea has taken the polish off the turd, but Ukraine is a vast wheat bowl...

Gee, some admission. Crimea has been a major Russian military installation for centuries, there are naval, army & air force bases there permanently.

Ukraine is not something I know about really, but I know half the country feels closer to europe, half closer to russia. There is social and industrial divide. So would it not be democratic way if the country gracefully split in two. Those who wish to return to mother Russia (as in Crimea) would be allowed to do so.

As far as I can see, current crisis escalated because the EU had to prove they are superpower, meddling in something they know nothing about (epic fail, sorry) resulting in screw up big time, while US and Russia were negotiating. (You remember "Fck the EU" by US, well said). To me it looks like, without EU involvement, Russia would not have annexed Crimea.
