They probably are. There is a lot of coastline for stuff to accumulate on. It is possible that a lot also drifted into one of the Pacific Garbage Patches. Needle in a haystack stuff.

So basically Ol' Matey locked himself in the cockpit, depressurized the aircraft, peacefully killing all on board rather quickly, spun her round, and waited for the fuel to run out.


Just how peaceful was the likely death of everyone on board in such a situation? The article makes it sound a bit too pleasant, versus what the reality might have been.

Yes, the picture of a panic stricken crew, presumably including the co-pilot, trying to access the cockpit, while passengers try to breathe through those drop down masks and the in flight movie switches to "Final Descent", is not one a care to contemplate at length.
