It's all for show don't you know:

Shutdown Fascism In the Smoky Mountains.

“It is obvious that the Park Service intends to block access to these trailheads, even though it literally costs them nothing to leave them open and by closing them they actually increase the possibility of serious problems for drivers on the road and hikers still in the park. In fact, it is costing them money they don’t have trying to block access. To block access is thus a deliberate, senseless, and mean-spirited act that demonstrates quite clearly the political goals of the Obama administration during this shutdown.”

What are they going to do next?

Put a bag over the Washington monument?

    a quick primer:

a CR is a continuing resolution....this needs to be passed by the house, senate and then signed by the president to fund the govt.

the republicans insist on adding a defund obamacare provision to the CR...and of course the senate won't pass it...so they keep sending it back to the house demanding that the CR be 'clean" without any additional add-ons.

but here's the thing....if a "clean" CR was brought to the house floor today, it would pass with both democrat and (rational) republican votes.

but speaker boehner is afraid of the lunatic fringe...aka the teabaggers....so he won't bring a vote for clean CR to the floor.

Brilliant- a manifesto for the tea party. A hymn for patriotic amerkins. Glory glory hallelujah. The saints go marching out.
I'd like to ask non-essential patriotic veterans how they feel about this, and how it might effect their own and their childrens vote.
Starvation in the name of ones patriotic duty to Mammon. Listening to you types, I have a question- was there ever such a thing as America?

Not quite a year ago he got trounced by his own party when they voted down one of his proposals about an economic negotiation. Remember Plan B. Bohner walked out of the committee hearing almost in tears. Cantor walked out with a smirk.

I don't know how the Rules work, but if Bohner goes against the Talibans in his Party he could lose the Speakership. If he knew how to be a real American he'd bring a clean CR up for a vote, but he's a Gollum; afraid of losing the Ring Of Power.

Americans Think GOP's Top Priority Is Troublemaking

The two parties are portraying the stalemate over the federal budget and health reform as a titanic clash of principle, but a plurality of Americans believes that causing political problems for President Obama is now the GOP's top priority in Washington.

House Now Has The Votes To End Government Shutdown, But It Won't

WASHINGTON -- Less than two days after the government shut down, there are now more than 17 Republicans who say they're ready to pass a bill to fund the government with no strings attached, giving the House the votes it needs to pass a clean funding bill.
All 200 Democrats would need to stick together and team up with those Republicans to pass the bill, but House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) would have to be willing to put it to a vote, which so far he has given no indication he will do. But if he does, the votes appear to be there. The Senate would pass the bill in no time, sending it to be signed by President Barack Obama and ending the shutdown.

It's come to this - pretty pathetic that's what the Democrat Party has become:

Democrats Pay Union Members to Protest World War II Vets.
You can’t make this stuff up: World War II veterans come to Washington to see their monument, and the Obama administration tries to block them by putting up barricades. When that blunder starts getting media attention, the administration doubles down by paying union members $15 to march around, waving signs and protesting–as though that were a sure-fire way to generate sympathy for the nonessential federal employees who are getting the day off. Is it possible that the Democrats could be snatching defeat from the jaws of victory?

And does that perhaps have something to do with Obama’s backing down on his vow not to talk with Congressional Republicans? Obama has now invited Congressional leaders to the White House for talks on ending the spending impasse.

They've released the minutes of the meeting.

Boontard lying through his dentures as usual.

    NY Times:
Obama Sets Conditions for Talks: Pass Funding and Raise Debt Ceiling

WASHINGTON — In their first meeting since a budget impasse shuttered many federal operations, President Obama told Republican leaders on Wednesday that he would negotiate with them only after they agreed to the funding needed to reopen the government and also to an essential increase in the nation’s debt limit, without add-ons.

    Bam!

Rep. Steve Stockman @SteveWorks4You Obama sent more protection to the World War II Memorial than he sent to Benghazi.

    Disgusting but true

At the World War II Memorial on The Mall in Washington, where veterans have been staging protests to keep it open, Washington Examiner’s Charlie Spiering reports that at least seven officials were dispatched Wednesday morning to set up a ring of barricades to block tourists from the memorial. That is two more security officials than the State Department had in Benghazi a year ago on the night of the terrorist attack that killed four, including the U.S. ambassador.

Obama et al. evidently believe that it’s more important to protect war memorials from patriots than to protect patriots from slaughter.

World baffled by America's self-inflicted wound

A perfect summary ... "A small band of extreme right-wing politicians couldn't win the debate, or the vote, or the legal argument over health care, so they decided to close down the government instead. A system that allows that to happen is dangerously flawed and in urgent need of repairs."
