I second that.
It's about time a president recognized the limitations of power, and actually did something to bring ramp it back to something more in line with the constitution, at least as commom sense interprets the limitation of power. It's another reason I think Obama made the decsicion, and I give him credit for that.
Now if we can just get him to stop spying on everyone, stop going after whistle blowers instead of the Wall Street Gang, and stop blowing up villagers all over the Middle East to "End Terrorism".
Obama has painted himself into a corner on this one, no matter what he ends up doing he will loose in public opinion both at home and abroad, and end up looking like a clown in the eyes of a hell of a lot of people irrespective of their political stance.
Obama is by far the weakest US president in history, and the way he is taunted by two bit Dictators + the Russian midget thug and the Chinese communist dictatorship tells it's own clear story. To be fair it is not all just his fault, he inherited a weakened US economic position and thus world influence.
Doing nothing in Syria is wrong, the posters advocating that, is advocating the same horrendous failures from the past that ultimately allowed genocides to take place, we have hopefully moved beyond that in some parts of the world.
The media created debacle about wmd in Iraq unfortunately plays a role in peoples minds when this Syria thing is debated and voted on, and it most certainly should not.
The British no voters in parliament is a bunch of cowards refusing to be responsible, because of domestic politics, the Blair/Iraq past, and the British sense of hurt pride being called a US lapdog, unfortunately the events and murdered children in Syria probably played a very little role when some of those parliamentarians voted, shame on them.
Yes we can always debate when and why the US and the responsible part of the western world previously have decided to intervene in conflicts or not!!, but better having stopped some criminal mass murderers sometimes, than having done nothing at all, the hypocrisy aside.
Insisting that the UN should somehow be an arbitrator of right and wrong is totally ridiculous, the whole notion of a UN protecting justice and freedom in the world went down the drain from the very first day since it was decided that criminals, vile Dictators and religious hell-holes had a full vote.
The UN today is high-jacked by Islamic religious dictatorships in the Arab league (or whatever they call themselves today) and some African shitholes and dodgy Asians voting in agreed unison, and last but not least big thug gangster nations like Russia and China.
Why someone would let any of those ass-holes decide what is right and wrong is beyond comprehension, UN have outlived it's usefulness a long time ago, and needs a comprehensive revamp if it is ever going to full-fill any role as the Worlds conscience and Police.
I respectfully ask some of the posters here to look inward and think about whether their stance is not more an anti US/Israel stance!, rather than a genuine assessment of humanitarian crimes in Syria by the Assad regime.
We can sit back and say, fvuck those muslims, one is not much better than the other, let them slaughter each-other, the only good mussie is a dead mussie, but then we should be honest about it, and not cry foul indignantly when the victims of our indifference emerges on the TV sets.
Today Obama is just an embarrassment for every American, his half-hearted fumbling around in foreign affairs is pathetic to witness, World freedom, democracy and justice for normal innocent civilians have taken several steps back in recent time.
Unfortunately, the worst genocide of the last decade took place, in Iraq, because the US did something, but we have hopefully moved beyond that in some parts of the world.
it's ok Boon, we got it the first time, no need to put that quote in every postsQuote:

but maybe it fits better with you agenda to blame the US alone.
There is a marked difference between war casualties, and genocide solely aimed at special groups of civilians, many of the deaths of Iraqi civilians is by the way of nutty insane insurgents, and has nothing to do with the military actions of the coalition forces.
Iraq was freed from a dangerous volatile murderous Dictator who himself has killed more than a million of his own people through terror and war. Not to mention the People killed in neighbouring Nations he attacked, No matter what the Iraqis is better of without him, and so are the rest of us. Now they have to sort out their own internal squabbles themselves.
this is what the president actually said on 20/8/2012,
you might notice that there is no mention of using military force and no mention of regime change.Quote:
“We have been very clear to the Assad regime, but also to other players on the ground, that a red line for us is we start seeing a whole bunch of chemical weapons moving around or being utilized. That would change my calculus. That would change my equation.”
and you might also ask, where did this idea come from that a military attack could be the only response ?
President Obama’s ‘Red Line’: What He Actually Said About Syria and Chemical Weapons - ABC NewsQuote:
the office of House Speaker John Boehner asserted that Syria had crossed the “red line” staked out by Obama last year – the use of chemical weapons on its own people. “The Syrian regime has blatantly crossed President Obama’s red line, the White House has acknowledged, by using chemical weapons on its people,” wrote Boehner communications aide Brendan Buck, calling on Obama to consult with Congress and address the American people if he pursues a response.
“[i]f he chooses to act, the president must explain his decision publicly, clearly and resolutely,” Buck wrote.
Sorry, Larv, but that's a truly awful post...
If only it were that simple. It's a complex story of missinformation, lies and deception. Oil companies, regional powerhouses, religous lunatics, corporations and terrorist groups are on all sides of this one - it is very far from being black abnd white.Quote:

Well, if Congress does not authorize President Obama to attack Syria which is very possible and in that event, Barry backs down, the U.S. will be viewed by Assad, Hezbollah, Iran, and just about everyone else as weak, hesitant and confused but what's new? The US has virtually zero respect around the world now with this clown in office...:chitown:
Heard the same thing over and over an over from 2000 - 2008 ...Quote:
