A Rod banned. I just don't get it

I was watching Fox this morning and heard that A Rod has been banned for the next year or so for taking performance enhancing drugs. WHY ? I thought he was famous for shagging some celebrity but it seems he is the highest paid baseball player in the world. I can understand athletes taking them and the likes of lance Armstrong etc but a guy that just stands there and hits a ball that's thrown at him and then runs round a circuit even a fat unfit bastard could run round
They reckon he will lose around thirty five million during his suspension.
A whole heap of money to risk losing by taking drugs to play a game of rounders better
Treat everyone as a complete and utter idiot and you can only ever be pleasantly surprised !

Yeah, it was the lead story across the Lamestream Media yesterday even beating out the Embassy closures in the ME.

Loads of baseball players take steroids so they can whack the ball harder. They don't have to run if they can hit the moon

Believe A-Rod was on the same stuff that Lance Armstrong was on which is real hard to detect - or was hard to detect. Different from a steroid I believe.

But why do you need drugs to simply hit a ball ? It isn't as if the further he hits it the more money he gets. from what I can gather he only needs to hit it out of the playing field to not even have to run round the field. How can steroids or whatever he was caught taking help him with this simple task ?

Baseball players take these PEDs to remain competitive, especially as they age.

A slight, miniscule reduction in your eye to bat coordination with mean your hitting average and over-all numbers will drop a lot.

For fielding, you go from stationary position to burst of movement involving your body coordination, eye recognition.

Arm strength is important, in particular for outfielders and pitchers.

Also for recover time. Baseball is a different type of sport obviously than footbal-soccer, rugby, basketball, etc.

It is a game of statistics.

The MLB starting suspending people a few years ago.

He's being "British", you know. Tea is better than coffee and baseball isn't a real sport.

You have to admit though, it is really really hilarious when you see this sort of thing for the 17 thousandth time. And they know how to take a piss on themselves (or take on piss... er... you know). Because they have a sense of irony. We North Americans don't at all.

I couldn't believe it. I'm in my hotel room in Vientiane, it's pissing down outside, I turn on the TV. It's the Toronto Blue Jays playing the Orioles. I was carried straight back to 84-85, when I actually followed the game.

Don't watch it, but it's hard not to love baseball anyway.

I have been to a few MLB games throughought the US. I used to follow the Mariners when A-Rod was there.

In or around 2003 he went to Texas for a large contract. I think it was $25 million per year. Texas was a bottom feeding team and heft the Mariners, as he was free to do so.

By coincidence I attended a Mariners game that was A-Rods return to Seattle playing with Texas.

The crowd booed and throw monopoly money from the 3 level into the air.

This was the last game I ever went to.

Tickets, parking, a small cup of plastic beer and a hotdog were over-priced.

Most people that go to games seem to have corporate tickets, or at least a lot do.

It is another way to suck money out of your pocket.

As for A-Rod today, I read the article stating the Yankees would have liked him to get a lifetime ban from the game. They would not have had to fulfill the $275 million contract for him, and A-Rod numbers have diminished. He is older, lower numbers, and has injuries.

"Rounders", or softball as it is properly known, is a girl's game in Canada, as is soccer, once the boys start getting a little hair on the nutsack.

    Baseball is quite different.

People that never played the game will never know how tough the act of hitting that little white ball can be- if you fail only seven out of ten times, you're a superstar. Baseball is extremely difficult and physical at the highest level- you need to be able to react instantly in the field as the ball comes at you in a hurry.

Playing on artificial turf breaks players down after a while (especially their knees)- A-Rod was in physical decline, and the steroids helped extend his career- when you're making nearly 40mil per year (including endorsements) you do what you have to do to keep the money train rolling- he got stupid and was caught, and his arrogance cost him a longer suspension than he might otherwise have gotten.

It's too bad- he could have been one of the best ever.

There he goes. One of God's own prototypes. A high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die.

    Got that right.

Used to go as many of the home games of the Houston Astros at Enron Field as I could - renamed the faggoty Minute Maid Park but still great entertainment.

Hence the term "soccer fag" in America.
