What has the republican controlled house accomplished so far?

the GOP has controlled the house of representatives and john boehner has been speaker since january 2011, but which bills have the GOP house passed that eventually became law?

    what are their legislative accomplishments?

the only major one i can think of is the fiscal cliff deal, and that got more votes from democrats than republicans.

maybe it's time for the 38th house vote to repeal the affordable care act (obamacare) even though there is no chance of it ever becoming law.

when is this do-nothing congress finally going to realize that they are in washington to do the people's business? do they care that they have a 16% approval rating?

    worst.
    speaker.
    ever.

Corrected it for your there, mate.

Anyway, 16% approval rating -its about time their employers sacked the lot of them. Shame that their employers are too busy playing pep rally games to bother noticing of doing anything about it.

March on washington and chuck them out with the garbage.

The main accomplishment of the Republican house has been to thwart the Demis and Obama in their insane quest for Socialism!

That accomplishment IMO outshines all the "tokenistic" federal appointments of Obama in order to pacify homosexual, women, Negro, and Latin voters (as opposed to placing individuals based upon their actual competencies and experiences).

    Fire away.

Obama has only used his veto pen a couple times during his Presidency. What's up with that? I would have thought the Republican Congress would be submitting bills left and right hoping for vetoes in hopes of portraying BHO as obstructionist. Hard to believe it's likely BHO will use his veto pen even less than GWB did.

    another boehner fail

A major piece of farm legislation went down to a surprising and dramatic defeat in the House on Thursday, as conservatives joined with most Democrats to oppose the $940 billion bill.
The House voted 195-234, with 62 Republicans joining 172 Democrats, to defeat the bill. The vote was regarded as a surprise, and represented an embarrassment to the House GOP leadership team.
Farm bill fails in the House - First Read

i'm by no means a historian of the house of reps and can't make the claim of "worst speaker ever", but i can say without any hesitation that boehner is the most ineffective speaker in recent history--i go back to tip o'neil.

what has this guy accomplished in the last three years? something between very little and nothing.

it's no wonder that the american people don't trust him and the institution he claims to lead.

It's kinda funny that the GOP gerrymandered themselves into electing a bunch of radical arch-conservatives that are now getting in the way of their ability to pass out subsidies to their big-business cohorts or govern.

Remember that whole thing about how Nancy Pelosi never lost a vote? Wait for the resident wingnut to remind us again why she was bad at her job..

    yes.

while some might have ideological differences with pelosi, it is undeniable that she was an incredibly effective speaker.

Rick hasn't gotten back to you with an answer so let me chime in, OK?

    Obamacare.

If that isn't the biggest train wreck of a Socialist program one hasn't been invented yet.

btw, saw a nice quote from Clint Eastwood the other day:

Right, so the UK, HK, Oz, Japan, Taiwan, Thailand etc etc are Socialist?
(Seriously, we've gotta stop being the party of stoopid.)

The republicans in congress have accomplished what they set out to do, namely to cripple it.

The House Republican majority has a large, extremist element that controls the voting. Largely made up of teabaggers and religious nutters who consider government to be the enemy unless it is legislating women's reproductive issues. Their collapse is coming. Every election cycle America's changing demographics chip away on their hold. It won't be long.

It was thought up by the Heritage Foundation as a response to Hillarycare and tested by a Republican governor. Is Heritage considered socialist too now?

Haven't looked at which Republicans voted against but indicates the speaker has no control or sway over those Reps who voted against. Historically, good speakers had vote commitments before a bill ever came to a vote. Anyone breaking the commitment did so at their peril. Can't fire them but suddenly find they have been moved from the House Ways and Means Committee to a new position. Assistant deputy in the Congressional Toilet budget commitee.

in boehner's defense, he doesn't have the same ability to dole out earmarks like in the past.

that doesn't explain his staff's inability to count. how in god's name could they have got this farm bill vote so wrong? it wasn't even close.

Agree. 172 no from Dems should be expected but 62 Rep no! Someone dropped the ball. Doubt was a counting problem. More likely an over statement of "confirmed" yes votes from staff or from Boehner.

why can't boehner control his caucus?

if he can't do the job, they should vote to replace him with someone who can.

Boehner is fucked and he knows it. He's crap at his job and terrified of the teabaggers, he can try to get Dem votes to pass something but he'll get primaried 6 ways until Sunday next go around. It's hilarious watching him flail around trying to do damage control that he could easily have prevented if he had a pair.
