The problem with rumours is that it would appear that many people choose to believe them rather than the actual truth , people become quite wealthy writing books on conspiracy theories with no real proof that they are based on fact or not .

The internet has given rise to a new kind of ignorance. Rumour, conspiracy, falsehoods are presented as fact. The most logical explanations are tossed aside in favor of subjective opinions and cherry picked information linked together in elaborate fallacies. Younger people with little or no first hand knowledge choose to believe false histories because they are presented convincingly and emotionally. It's a sad fact that the world has been significantly dumbed down by the internet.
