    Another US Embassy Under Siege

    This time it's Cairo, Egypt.

You don't suppose Matt Drudge is setting up some sort of historical resonance here or what?

    And then there's this:

Islamists fired rocket-propelled grenades at the US Consulate in Libya today. They also torched the building. One US official was murdered in the attack.
An American staff member of the US consulate in the eastern Libyan city of Benghazi has died following fierce clashes at the compound, Libyan security sources said.
An armed mob attacked and set fire to the building in what they say was a protest against an amateur film deemed offensive to Islam’s Prophet Muhammad, after similar protests in Egypt’s capital.
“One American staff member has died and a number have been injured in the clashes,” Abdel-Monem Al-Hurr, spokesman for Libya’s Supreme Security Committee, said on Wednesday, adding that rocket-propelled grenades were fired at the building from a nearby farm.
“There are fierce clashes between the Libyan army and an armed militia outside the US consulate,” he said. He also said roads had been closed off and security forces were surrounding the building.

    Here's to the 'Arab spring'
    Yay, Libya's free.
This probably wouldn't have happened under Gadhafi though.

There are around 165 nations in the world and the USA has military bases in 150 of them ?
    WHY ?
It also spends more on its military than every other nation put together again
    WHY ?
    Just curious like

Bit of figure manipulation going on there. Of those 150 countries, over 230,000 of the less than 250,000 US military deployed abroad are deployed in only six countries - Afghanistan (90K), Japan (37K), UK (16K), Germany (53K), South Korea (28K), and Kuwait (15K). In 22 other countries, there are smaller numbers, in the low thousands or in the hundreds only. That accounts for 28 of your claimed 150 "military bases". The 122 which are not covered above have from 1-99 personnel assigned - in many of them only a tiny (5 or 6) Marine Security Guard Detachment to guard an Embassy or a Military Attache Office (a few people) within an Embassy. So, in no way, shape or form does the US have military bases in 150 nations - try six.

In contrast, the UK is about 1/5 the size in population of the US, and has about 1/5 as many troops deployed abroad as the US.

You're making the assumption that the goal of these actions has been to liberate countries rather than to destabilize a region.

So much for the new, kinder, liberated Libya.
Maybe Gadhafi understood the dynamics of the country.
(Same could be said for Saddam)
It's now in the hands of the barbarians.
    Praise the arab spring.
Interestingly this will require some reaction and in light of the fact that thee US election is very near what to we say will be the reaction?

FFS If it wasn't for the USA and the tourists from all over the world these fxcking ragheads would be eating their own shit, followed by the mud that makes up their walls of the houses they live in. I know that the USA isnt the best at overseas diplomacy by far. But whats worse china being the only world power?

Democracy is the only way forward for us all. I would suggest that all aid to them stops right now. No food, no clean water, no nothing. 6 months later they would be back in the stone age apart from bread.

So a shitty film backed by jews ( allegedly ) make over 500 people stop work and jump over walls of embassy and loot. I would suggest that a fxcking huge wall is built to segregate them but the fuckers would only break it up and throw the stones at aircraft flying 30,000 feet above them.

Now alot of people on here will not agree with me, but when prostitutes are kept in cages only unlocked when they earn their money and then put back in when finished is wrong. Kids who can only read 1 book ( we all know which one ) while the diplomats have £15 mill houses by the lake side in Switzerland.
Bolloks to them and their own, we owe then nothing.

Appalling. I believe, in Libya at least, this was all about some little known anti-Islam diatribe, written by an American Israeli. They have certainly publicised it now.

The people who orchestrated this aren't stupid. They know if they blame Christians or Jews for their violence at the embassies that they will gain sympathy and allies in the USA and Europe. What Americans should be looking at is the day's date, 9-11. This is the attacker's celebration of 9-11.

You do realize that before Libya was "liberated" it was independently wealthy, had it;s own gold back currency and the highest standards of both education and health in Africa?

Wonder what's in the movie to get the loons so fired up? Have any of them even seen it? Do they even need to see it...or is it ok if the Imam just tells them that the Merkins have insulted the Prophet again.....

A correct response from the International community, would be for every country in the world to make movies depicting the Prophet doing something really obscene and singing... "always look on the bright side of life"

What kind of total fuckwits attack embassies and kill people over a video or a cartoon......

This is Just what Obama needs in the runup to an election.
This will give him even more creedence with some that may have not given him any before.
S Ambassador killed in Libya: Barack Obama dispatches US marines to hunt killers
Barack Obama dispatched 50 US marines to Libya to help hunt down the killers of American ambassador Chris Stevens as suspicions grew that the attack was planned and carefully orchestrated.

    9:00PM BST 12 Sep 2012
The president vowed that “justice will be done” after Mr Stevens, 52, was killed by an Islamist mob in an attack on the US consulate in the eastern coastal city of Benghazi. Three other Americans were also killed in the raid, which came on the anniversary of September 11.
The attack was initially thought to have been the work of a spontaneous mob, provoked by a US-made film ridiculing the Prophet Mohammed that had been highlighted by media outlets across the Middle East.
The US consulate in Benghazi, Libya, in flames Tuesday night.
However, there was mounting speculation that the attack on the Benghazi consulate, which also killed a second diplomat, Sean Smith, and two other US officials, had been carefully planned by al Qaeda linked Islamic extremists.

The attackers were apparently armed with mortars and rocket propelled grenades, while there was speculation of links with the death of al Qaeda’s deputy leader or the 11th anniversary of the terrorist attacks on New York and Washington.
Speaking in the Rose Garden outside the White House yesterday, Mr Obama confirmed that a 50-strong US Marine anti-terrorist security team had been dispatched to Libya to bolster security and aid efforts to find those responsible.
“Make no mistake. Justice will be done,” he said. “The United States condemns in the strongest terms this outrageous and shocking attack,”
He paid tribute to the work of Mr Stevens, who had led American diplomatic efforts to liberate Benghazhi last year, saying that he died in a city “he helped save”. The attacks were also swiftly condemned as “cowardly” by Libya’s interim government and by the international community.
“We extend our apology to America, the American people and the whole world,” said Libya’s interim president, Mohammed el-Megarif.
Christopher Stevens, the US ambassador to Libya, was killed with three others when a mob attacked a consulate building in Benghazi
Although precise details of the attack were still unclear last night, claims that it could have been a deliberate, targeted assault gathered strength.
A senior US official told the CNN network that a grenade had set a building inside the walled consulate compound ablaze, leaving the Americans facing both a fire inside and attackers outside.
Mr Stevens and the others who died were separated from the rest of the staff while trying to escape to the roof of the building and succumbed to smoke inhalation, the senior official said. Mr Stevens is the first US ambassador to be killed in the line of duty since 1979.
Doctors at the Benghazi Medical Center said Mr Stevens had been at the point of death when he was brought into the facility by several friendly Libyans. “We tried to revive him for an hour and a half but with no success,” Dr Ziad Abu Zeid said.
The Quilliam Foundation, an anti- extremist think-tank in London, speculated in a statement that the attacks could have been linked by a promise this week by the Al Qa’eda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri to avenge the death of his deputy, Abu Yahya, who was killed in a drone strike in June.
A group called the “Imprisoned Omar Abdul Rahman Brigades”, which attacked both the Red Cross office and the US consulate in Benghazi earlier this year, was being put forward as a leading suspect for the attacks
One eyewitness told The Daily Telegraph that an armed group had infiltrated ordinary protesters who were already outside the consulate
US military officials said they were preparing to launch reconnaissance drones over eastern Libya to assist local security forces in hunting down the militants responsible for the consulate attack. The FBI was also reported to be involved in the investigation.
A senior Whitehall security official said many Islamist groups were still operating in the country with links with terrorist groups such as al-Qaeda, but that it was still too early to say whether the attack had been planned in advance.
The US was yesterday bracing for further flash points around the Islamic world as the controversial film, the “Innocence of Muslims”, which also provoked protests outside the US embassy in Cairo, spread virally across the Middle East on the internet.
The Afghan government reportedly attempted to block YouTube in an effort to stop the film being shared as the Taliban promised to “take revenge” on American soldiers for the offence caused.
However both Mr Obama and his secretary of state Hillary Clinton said that the actions of a minority of extremists would not derail on-going US-Libyan efforts to rebuild the country following the death and defeat of Muammar Gaddafi last year.
In an emotional tribute to one her best foreign service officers, Mrs Clinton said that Mr Stevens had “risked his own life to lend the Libyan people a helping hand to build he foundation for a new, free nation. He spent every day since helping to finish the work that he started.”
Mr Obama, who visited the State Department after speaking at the Rose Garden, said that the work that Mr Stevens had devoted and ultimately given his life for, would continue.
“This attack will not break the bonds between the United States and Libya,” Mr Obama said, “Libyan security personnel fought back against the attackers alongside Americans. Libyans helped some of our diplomats find safety, and they carried Ambassador Stevens’s body to the hospital, where we tragically learned that he had died.”
    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worl...t-killers.html

A dream come true for the Democrats, so well timed I reckon hansuman will be busy trying to blame it on the U.S. government.
