I can definitely see why. That is an "ouch get-me-out-of-here trifecta if I've ever seen one. GOP wants to sweep that trio under the rug and for good reason.

We'll have to wait and see but it seems the Dems are planning this convention out carefully.

Although basically useless, these conventions set the tone.

IMO, the conventions are advertising campaigns to rally support and also reach what I call the "dummy vote."

a bit of convention news .....

Advisers to President Barack Obama are scripting a Democratic National Convention featuring several Republicans in a prime-time appeal to independents — and plan a blistering portrayal of Mitt Romney as a heartless aristocrat who “would devastate the American middle class,” Democratic sources tell POLITICO.
According to convention planning documents, the three-night convention in Charlotte, N.C., early next month will seek to “[e]xpose Mitt Romney as someone who doesn’t understand middle class challenges” while also burnishing “the President’s image as someone whose life story is about fighting for middle class Americans and those working to get into the middle class.”

who are these republicans the article mentions?

    any guesses?

saw this in the news today: Exclusive: Democratic Party Platform Draft: "We Support Marriage Equality"

The Democratic Platform Drafting Committee agreed to add language supporting marriage equality to this year's party platform, the language of which has not previously been released but which BuzzFeed has obtained.

The draft language, shared today with committee members, is:

We support the right of all families to have equal respect, responsibilities, and protections under the law. We support marriage equality and support the movement to secure equal treatment under law for same-sex couples. We also support the freedom of churches and religious entities to decide how to administer marriage as a religious sacrament without government interference.

We oppose discriminatory federal and state constitutional amendments and other attempts to deny equal protection of the laws to committed same-sex couples who seek the same respect and responsibilities as other married couples. We support the full repeal of the so-called Defense of Marriage Act and the passage of the Respect for Marriage Act.

the extreme right is indicating that former GOP presidential candidate john huntsman might be one of the republican speakers at the dem convention.

is bloomberg still a republican or does he now call himself an independent?

    true.

besides nixon, can anyone think of a time when the previous president was too toxic to voters to be offered a spot to speak at his party's convention?

GWB really got taken for a ride by the neocons.

Good question. Had to google and got a surprise re the upcoming conventions. Of the living Pres and VP's only Clinton will be attending the convention. Carter will speak via video.

    Erasing W

As Bill Clinton is resurrected by the Democrats, George W. Bush is being erased by the GOP -- as if an entire eight years of American history hadn't happened.

While Bill Clinton stumps for Obama, Romney has gone out of his way not to mention the name of the president who came after Clinton and before Obama.

Clinton will have a starring role at the Democratic National Convention. George W. Bush won't even be at the Republican one -- the first time a national party has not given the stage at its convention to its most recent occupant of the Oval Office who successfully ran for reelection.

The GOP is counting on America's notoriously short-term memory to blot out the last time the nation put a Republican into the Oval Office

    Robert Reich: Erasing W

Fool me once, that's a shame on you. Fool me twice, that's a shame on me.

The American middle class, struggling with their mortgages, static or declining wages, and unemployment, have not forgotten dubya- yet. They aren't that dumb.

"the first time a national party has not given the stage at its convention to its most recent occupant of the Oval Office who successfully ran for reelection." Consider that, because it says everything. Even the GOP knows that it's last Presidency was a disaster and an embarassment.

    came across this article today:

As for Republicans considered most likely to appear on the DNC stage, The Atlantic’s John Hudson speculates on a few possible suspects: retiring Sen. Olympia Snowe of Maine, former Pennsylvania Sen. Arlen Specter, and former California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Outside the Beltway’s James Joyner catalogued even more prospects: Indiana Sen. Richard Lugar, former Utah Sen. Robert Bennett, former Florida Gov. Charlie Crist and former Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman among them.

I can think of plenty of good reasons why most of them wouldn’t do the Charlotte gig. A few might even be offended by the speculation. But two of them would seem to fit the convention turncoat profile – aggrieved over their treatment, long at odds with the GOP base, very comfortable with the president and imbued with a sense of political theatricality: Schwarzenegger and Crist
Sizing up the convention turncoats - POLITICO.com

i really hope it's not schwarzenegger.

btw, 2008 embarrassment sarah palin is officially NOT speaking at the GOP convention.

did practically everyone see this coming?

    you betcha!

TAMPA -- In a showcase role on his party’s biggest stage, Florida Sen. Marco Rubio will introduce Mitt Romney for his speech to accept the nomination for president on the last night of the Republican National Convention.: TAMPA: Marco Rubio to introduce Mitt Romney at Republican convention - Political Currents - MiamiHerald.com

Why not Bush do the intro?

Is Bush gonna even speak at the GOP convention?

Did they even tell Bush where the convention would be held, this year?

^ The GOP is aware of the storm threat. Contingencies in place -- they will storm the right-to-work state NC and take over the DNC convention site.

Don't know, don't care. You can have him. He's senile.

Heard Biden is being sent to Tampa for the GOP convention. Hope the parking lot has room for him.

The Democratic National Convention Committee Wednesday announced a lineup of convention speakers who will further solidify the party's standing with female voters.

The list, passed along by a source from the committee, includes the following names:

Former Assistant Secretary, U.S. Department of Veterans, Affairs Tammy Duckworth.
    Sandra Fluke, Georgetown University student.
Denise Juneau, state superintendent of public instruction, Montana.
Nancy Keenan, president of NARAL Pro-Choice America.
    Caroline Kennedy.
    Lilly Ledbetter.

and then there is this bit of news.

"We Built It" to be the Day's Theme of Convention

Tampa, Fla. - Promising that Tuesday's convention theme "will honor the fact that it is the drive, determination and sacrifice of America's job creators and millions of hard-working American men and women who made the United States the exceptional nation it is," Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus today announced that Tuesday's theme for the 2012 Republican National Convention will be "We Built It." : http://blogs.suntimes.com/sweet/2012...y_gov_chr.html

    and

However, the stadium where the GOP will be announcing “We Built This!” was financed primarily by the government. The Tampa Bay Times Forum arena, which houses the Tampa Bay Lightning, was built in 1996 as the “Ice Palace” with 62% government funds. The total budget for the project was $139 million, of which public money accounted for $86 million and team money accounted for $53 million. : http://www.thedailydolt.com/2012/08/...ernment-funds/

What's that old saying of Bob Dylan's?

You don't need a weatherman to see which way the wind blows - or something like that?

Hollywood bailing on President Obama and the Democratic National Convention.

By the time folks have seen that new Obama movie that literally destroys what little reputation, he won't get elected for the position of dog-catcher...

Just watched the day's RNC speeches. Wow, some powerful stuff. Especially liked speeches by Mia Love, Nikki Haley, Artur Davis (you know, the ex-libbie), and Ann Romney, although she appeared a bit wooden. Christie was fab. I heard MSNBC missed all the ethnic speakers -- gotta focus on the old white folks.

I rarely turn on the TV set, but I did, just to check out the Repub convention.

Like the all of them, lots of abstract words and idealism. It's like cheerleaders and fans coming to gether for 'rah-rah.'

I could only take about 4 minutes of it (Cristie's speech.) Same ol' rhetoric, but we know nothing will change. It's business as usual and will continue to be so.

so wooden, she was undeniably stepforidian. again, she plays well with the base, but real american women are going to like her as much as they like her husband....not very much.

BTW, christie's speech was 2600 words long....and he didn't mention or reference romney until 1800.

it is romney who's going to the candidate for president, right?

i may have missed it, but i don't think GWB's name was mentioned once last night.

have republicans forgotten the man who led their party from 2000 to 2008?

or is it that they want the american people to forget.

    my guess is the latter.

however, the GOP has a 'mystery' speaker scheduled for thursday. i suppose that could be GWB....but somehow i doubt it. might be his dad, though.

something else i found interesting....team romney seems to be doing a pretty good job of sidelining the ron paul people. we'll see if they can keep it up for another two days.

btw, ron paul himself announced that the was 'undecided' on who he was going to vote for in november.

    ouch.

Ya, wonder why they are "angry"? Couldn't be coz the economy is in a shambles, the debt/deficits are so high, racial divide is huge...I guess if you watched via the MSM you missed the fantastic speeches of such new stars as Mia Love, Nikki Haley, Rep Cruz and Arturo Davis. MSM cut away from them to show Isaac and commercials coz they all be minorities.

    Mia Love rocked last night!

Mayor Mia Love of Saratoga Springs, Utah addresses the 2012 Republican National Convention

But, it's like Lamestream Media is totally ignoring her. Does NBC stand for No Black Conservatives or what?

If you look at NBC’s RNC video page, it’s as if Mia Love and Artur Davis never spoke.

Is NBC racist? Looks that way. WTF! They’re airbrushing out the black people!

Also, check out : Vandalism from racist Democrats: Sick: Wikipedia entry calls Mia Love ‘dirty, worthless whore’ and ‘House Nigger.’

That's why Wiki is a bad source in general.
