    Obama - Open Mike

I'm sure most of you have caught the sound bite, where obama is making promises to roll-over to the Russians, once he is re-elected.

How can anyone vote for him is beyond me, but I think he has a good chance of getting re-elected.

Woe be to the USA, Karma is getting its revenge.

This is the transcript of their remarks- I assume it is correct-

According to a transcript of the recorded remarks carried by ABC News, Mr Obama told his Russian counterpart: "On all these issues, but particularly missile defence, this, this can be solved but it's important for him to give me space."

Mr Medvedev responded: "Yeah, I understand. I understand your message about space. Space for you."

Mr Obama then said: "This is my last election. After my election I have more flexibility."

Mr Medvedev replied: "I understand. I will transmit this information to Vladimir."

    Like, so what?

These are the embarassing remarks, compliments of Mitt:-

"Russia is not a friendly character on the world stage" because it has old ties to the governments of Syria and Iran.

Russia "is without question our number one geopolitical foe," Romney said.

Dmitry Medvedev says Mitt Romney comment 'smelled of Hollywood' - Telegraph

If elected Potus (fat chance), this is the character who would lead the US side of the mutual Strategic Arms Reduction Talks?

Sounds to me more like a bit player in "Dr Strangelove".

It's all staged. Part of his insidious disinformation campaign. Anyhow, if voter fraud and the leftist “mainstream” media are enough to get Obama reelected despite his dismal performance, this is what America has to look forward to:

how many times has this sort of pseudo controversy taken place?

pajama-clad, right wing bloggers gin up faux outrage.....drudge puts up a screaming headline.....fox puts the 'story' into heavy rotation....other media outlets feel compelled to address it.....eventually people look at what the actual facts are....the 'story' disappears because it's a non-story.

    lather, rinse, repeat.

Obama bows to Arab royalty, his wife hugs the Queen of England and presents her with an IPOD and now Sho-Bama pleads with Putin to let him win he does his bidding.

    What a fool!

Quite pathetic how the right grasps helplessly to illusions of grandeur and patriotic buffoonery as a surrogate for intelligent diplomacy.

This is purely a US policy domestic matter where Obama is asking an international counterpart (Some would say gangster and enemy of Democracy) for help in the election, to leave him space on the international scene making him look good at home, in return he will be more accommodating in future negotiations.

Hard to interpret in any other way, it is up to the US citizens if they think that is indeed "intelligent diplomacy", or belongs in the morally questionable dirty tricks politics department.

Is Russia without question America's number one geopolitical foe? Seriously, it is that remark that should attract the controversy- especially coming from a Presidential candidate. It wouldn't matter so much if some blowhard on Fox said it.

It is not an emergent, but now very much established reality- Russia and Europe are bound in a relationship of interdependency, based on trade & investment. Russia is Europe's dominant energy supplier, in fact close to monopolistic (exacerbated by the recent decision to turn it's back on Iranian energy exports- which only seems to have benefitted India, China and Russia). And Europe is Russia's largest foreign investor, by far. Furthermore, Europe has a considerably larger GDP than does the USA, and is a larger exporter (and major importer) to boot.

In both Euro & the US- perhaps Russia too, there is still quite a lot of 'Cold War' thinking and posturing, based pretty much on mid 20th century realities, rivalries and paranoia's. Quite a lot has changed since then-

    collapse of Soviet Communism
    downsizing of Russian military
removal of eastern Europe from Soviet sphere & occupation
    dissolution of USSR
Massive trade links & investment links between Russia and Europe
    Euro dependence on Russian energy
    rise of China

It is certainly not helpful to have senior US political figures acting as if we are still in the same Cold War and coming out with archaic, belligerent comments like that. The Russian bear is more of a bear cub, the Chinese panda is the Grizzly now (but thankfully not so belligerent), and the American gorilla has shed quite a few pounds too- but all too often remains belligerent.

Bottom line - Old Mr Transparency wants to do something that will piss off a lot of US citizens, thus hurting his chances for re-election, so he wants to wait until after the election and then he can do what he wants - US citizens be damned.

Or else, he is just plain lying to the Russians, either way he is not a man of honor or character (what am I thinking, he IS a lawyer - duh)

Do you mean that most Americans oppose the START talks, ie reducing the worlds nuclear arsenal? I thought the opposite was the case (it certainly is elsewhere).

I have my own reasons for thinking the same thing- but of course, he is a career politician.
