The numbers have been released for this week.

As of Friday, 6 October 2017, the ABS estimates it has received 10.0 million (62.5 per cent) survey forms – an increase of 0.8 million forms since the previous week.: https://marriagesurvey.abs.gov.au/news-alerts

To date – 10,000,000 surveys have been returned (62.5%) out of 16,000,000 sent.

The figure I see repeated most often is that 64% of the returns will be checked with “YES”.

    Let’s work with 64% Yes – 36% no

    Returned: 10,000,000
    Yes: 6,400,000
    no: 3,600,000
    Outstanding surveys: 6,000,000

They’re suggesting at least 70% of the surveys will be returned. Using 70%
    Outstanding surveys: 1,200,000

Let’s say 80% of the surveys are returned.
    Outstanding surveys: 2,800,000

I think most everyone knows where this is going. And again,………congratulations Australia

Voting Twice Online in Australia’s Same-Sex Marriage Poll Was Frighteningly Easy

For the past month, Australians have been casting their ballots in a nonbinding-yet-divisive survey to advise their elected leaders on the question: “Should the law be changed to allow same-sex couples to marry?” As an overseas Aussie who cares deeply about the issue, I wanted my say. So, one day a few weeks ago, I entered my personal details into a designated government website and received a “Secure Access Code” that allowed me to cast my vote online.

When I checked my mail later that day, however, I found a letter from the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS), the agency administering the survey. This letter contained a different Secure Access Code. My reporter’s red flag flew up immediately.

Was it possible, I wondered, that the system would validate both of these codes and let me vote twice? That would be a potentially troubling situation, because if I could do it, then others could, too. I had to find out.

Lo and behold, both codes were accepted, and I was allowed to cast a second ballot, receiving the same message as before: “Thank you. Your response has been submitted.”

    Problem?

Mother Jones (my link to the article) doesn’t print/post fake news (or will I).

    Online or telephone response

You will need a Secure Access Code to submit a paperless response. To request a Secure Access Code, complete the online request form or call the Information Line. An email with a unique 16-digit Secure Access Code will be sent to your nominated email address. You can complete the survey online or call the automated telephone service.: https://marriagesurvey.abs.gov.au/overseas - https://www4.abs.gov.au/web/survey.nsf/AMLPSSACEnqForm

Damn, I wish I had done the electronic option.

If I had scored 2 voting codes I could have had a bet each way to make sure I end up on the winning side no matter which way it goes.

I am not convinced about this idea about history having 'wrong' sides.

It does not feel very inclusive to me. Being judgemental like that may have been OK last century but this is 2017.

Is it really fair to put negative labels on people just because of their political views? I think it is hurtful.

Society evolves, usually for the better but sometimes we take wrong turns and short diversions up dead ends. Who knows how history will judge SSM: A brilliant far-sighted leap... or like wile-e-coyote when he runs over the edge of a cliff and doesn't realise it until he looks down.

“Vote No” Says Leader Of Church Solely Created To Change Definition Of Marriage

The leader of a church that was only created so that King Henry VIII could remarry to another woman without having to cut his wife’s head off, have today declared they are not in support of changing the legal definition of marriage in Australia.

The Coalition for Marriage has confirmed the No campaign received a $1 million donation from the Anglican Diocese of Sydney to help fund the case against same sex marriage – which would result in a drastic addition of three new words to The Marriage Act.

The donation was publicly announced by Archbishop Glenn Davies in his address to the 51st Synod earlier today — a meeting of all the churches in the Sydney Diocese — but was made about a month ago – around about the same time Qantas CEO Alan Joyce was being criticised by Christian politicians for publicly backing the rights of 70% of his staff who are currently unable to get married.

Dr Davies said he would make “no apology” for encouraging all Australians to vote against same sex marriage in Malcolm Turnbull’s $122 million postal survey, in the same way the Catholic Church opposed King Henry’s six marriages in the 1500s, before they were burnt to death by loyalists of the newly-created Church Of England.

“I consider the consequences of removing gender from the marriage construct will have irreparable consequences for our society”

“Just like how the English Reformation has killed millions of people from the first act of Catholic/Prodestant terrorism during The Gunpowder Plot of 1605 – right up to the IRA”

“There is much bigger consequences to changing the secular constitutional definition of marriage”

^ Never heard of the source (not referring to you Ant) so from their own website ...

The Betoota Advocate, Australia’s oldest newspaper.
As a small and independent regional newspaper from far-west Queensland, we pride ourselves on reporting fair and just news with the authenticity
that rivals only the salt on the sunburnt earth that surrounds us here in the Queensland Channel Country.

But Wiki has a different take ...

The Betoota Advocate is an Australian satirical news website.
Started in 2014 by former journalists Archer Hamilton and Charles Single and publisher Piers Grove,[1][2] the site puts a comedic spin on current news topics
and broader social observations.[3] While based in inner Sydney, the site takes its name from the deserted regional town of Betoota, Queensland, and
purports to be "Australia's oldest newspaper".[4]

    Hot as here now.

Had a HUGE storm outback (of where I live) ... golf size hailstones.

OH ... gave the Air-con a test run yesterday, just to make sure it works before the real heat arrives.

I was going to run with this news article a few days ago...
NSW Police investigated a group of gay police officers for drug use based on a complaint they had "loose morals" and were "promiscuous".
... but thought better of it.

Best to stay focused on the SSM issue.

It seems that the LGBT community is well organised in the UK !

SSM: Straight couples in UK fight for same civil partnership rights as people in same-sex relationships

It is five weeks to go until the ABS reveals how Australians voted in the same-sex marriage survey, but as gay couples here argue for the right to marry,
in the United Kingdom, it is heterosexual couples fighting for legal recognition of their relationships.

In Britain, same-sex couples have the best of both worlds.
Civil partnerships were established in 2004, and after a decade-long campaign by gay rights advocates, the UK government legalised same-sex marriage
in England and Wales from 2014.

But if you are a straight couple you have only one legal option — marriage.

    More Here

Thankfully, in Australia, we have the Partner or de-facto relationship recognised.

To a point where there is no longer a 'Marriage' Visa for your overseas companion ... it's called a 'Partner Visa' and does not discriminate on Gender associations.
I believe that NZ is similarly enlightened, but not sure what they call their Visa.

Is the institution of marriage totally meaningless yet or the discussion still on going? As said previously just scrap tax/inheritance laws and no need for anyone to waste money on ever getting married again. Money that could be used for much better purposes when you look at the average cost of a one day show these days.

Can I marry my pet yet or is this next years protest? My goldfish can't sleep at night not knowing.

    Another week. More numbers.

As of Friday, 13 October 2017, the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) estimates it has received 10.8 million (67.5 per cent) survey forms in the Australian Marriage Law Postal Survey – up from 10.0 million forms last week.: https://marriagesurvey.abs.gov.au/news-alerts

To date – 10,800,000 surveys have been returned (67.5%) of 16,000,000 sent.

Adjustment - I'm going to use 61.5% voting Yes due to the latest poll I've seen: Gay marriage

    61.5% Yes – 38.5% no

    Returned: 10,800,000
    Yes: 6,642,000
    no: 4,158,000
    Outstanding surveys: 5,200,000

    Looking ahead,....

If the returns are anything like the past two weeks (14 days) returns received we're looking at a rough total (estimate) of 2,857,000 being returned during these next 25 days (survey closes November 7th).

    Returned to date: 10,800,000
    Yes: 6,642,000
    no: 4,158,000
    Estimated outstanding surveys: 2,857,000

Very soon - Same sex marriage may be law by Christmas: The Courier Mail

    ________

    Another Cruise Line

Cruise ship company Celebrity Cruises has announced the commencement of legal same-sex marriages onboard their ships, officiated by the captain in international waters.

Well, sort of. See, most of the Celebrity fleet is registered in Malta, where same-sex marriage was legalised in July 2017. This means the fleet is legally able, under Maltese law, to recognise same-sex marriage onboard, officiated by the fleet's captains.

The company is specifically targeting Australia, where same-sex marriage is not yet legal, and whose citizens are currently in the middle of a non-binding, non-compulsory nationwide postal survey asking the question: "Should the law be changed to allow same-sex couples to marry?"

Celebrity Cruises CEO and president Lisa Lutoff-Perlo announced on Friday that their Australian ship Celebrity Solstice would join the company’s 12-strong international fleet in offering legalised same-sex marriage ceremonies.

The Australian ceremonies will kick off when the Celebrity Solstice will return to the country on October 20, 2017, for its sixth local season.: Cruise ship company offers same-sex wedding ceremonies at sea - https://twitter.com/JoshButler/statu...18609722605568

Maybe not the first Cruise Line to offer same sex marriages, but the first leaving an Australian port: https://www.cruisecritic.com/news/news.cfm?ID=7974

Looks like the ocker pooves will get over the line and fair play to them

I was looking forward to a Trump moment just for the giggles but it looks like the world has reverted to predictability on this one.

I am happy to support gay marriage on the basis that poove-burglary is well wrong, philthy and sick in the brain but who cares about marriage these days anyway so have at it.

However, I am looking forward to science unravelling the causes of poovery and then offering the relevant options to gay blokes who can smell the coffee and recognise that cuddling up to a pair of lovely soft lady-buns is infinitely more civilised than groping round some other blokes hairy arsehole (not to mention more aesthetically pleasing for on-lookers) but until that day (and it is coming soon... ) lets not be marriage scrooges and let the pooves be married I say...

It will almost be sad when gay people become an endangered relic of the past but it was a fun ride fellas so luv-ya-long-time!!

Yeah, nice try but it’s impossible to graciously accept defeat when it’s actually a resounding beating you’ve received - much less so trying to do it on your own terms with your own caveats.

    Suck it up, buttercup.

It is true I am well beaten and the pooves will party like its 1666.

It is also true that a major part of wanting the vote to go 'No' is simply for the delicious fun of watching the pooves and the snowflakes squirm and cry.

But I accept that these are immature reasons and so I must stand and salute the pooves and wish them well on their honeymoon.

    Pooves of the world unite....!!
