Ranong is a fairly busy little fishing seaport on the Andaman coast and is also a frontier town with Burma. The "official" population is about 25k, though I suspect it's more likely to be double that if you take all the Burmese into account.
The main industry is fish so I'll start with the fishing port and fish market.
They pack the fish in ice in those blue barrels
Sorting blue craps
Sorting shrimp
Ready for the retail markets in Bangkok
Little mountains of squid
Quite an array of different species!
Lovely fountain
note the fresh paint on the building, a sign of prosperity, you see freshly painted building like this all over town.
The ice trucks, you see lots of these around.
Ice is a key feature as the fishing boats don't usually make their own ice like in western countries.
These are the trucks which haul the fish to points north and south
It can be an eyeopener when you meet a pair of these guys passing on a blind corner.(which I've seen more than once)
More to come....
