    Trip to Khao Sok..... Amazing!

I have been in Thailand for 8 years, I have traveled to most places in Thailand but saw a review on Khao Sok in another Thai forum and thought I would give it a go as I never heard of the place.

I booked a place called Las Orquideas which is owned by a french guy (I think) and the service there is amazing and he has trained the staff well.

Anyway, Khao Sok is my new favourite place in Thailand, why is this place so unknown to tourists adn Expats, only a very few other farangs at work have heard of the place too. Its is like a hidden gem in Thailand in my opinion.

You can do jungle tours and elephant trekking, but the best thing they have is the jungle treks, did not think Thailand would have so much wildlife still alive in one area lol.

ANyways I seriously think you should check it out, the Las Orquides is the best hotel there by far, the other look a little runned down that I could see.

Anyoen else been to Khao Sok? I want to go again soon and would like to know if anyone got any good tips on what else to do there.

Me too. I think it gave me vertigo having all those gaping big holes in the floor of your hut with a 20ft drop down below.

I have been many times in the past with groups of tourists, there are several good walks in the park and also boat trips on the nearby hydro lake.
There are a few floating resorts on the lake that are good for 1-2 day stays and bases for cave walks in the area.(not recommended in the wet seasons)
My friend eit owns "the green valley resort" in khao Sok and he is usually booked a year in advance.

Whileas I agree with you that it is a gem, it is hardly hidden.
I first visited in 1994 and there were plenty of other tourists at the time.

As phunphin says, a stay at the Chiao Lan rafthouses is very enjoyable.
Kayak trips on the Khao Sok River too.
And a visit to the cave Narm Taloo.
There are quite a few trails in the park where you can do your own trek.

I agree, it is a very nice area but not hidden, there were plenty of farangs around when I went there. I stayed in the resort with the tree houses just before the park. Very nice hiking area in the park and the limestone formations in the lake were fantastic. I rented a boat for about 900 baht for 3 hours for me and my girl friend, the water was clean and refreshing. I recommend a stop if you are driving between Phuket and Samui.

Yea Khao Sok is pretty cool.

I once stayed up on the reservoir at place called 500 rai. It was a 30 minute boat ride and then a 1 km hike, then another raft ride to a floating bungalow isolated in a lovely secluded fjord surrounded by towering limestone formations.
I heard it was closed for a while and now recently reopened.

    This is 500 rai

The raft going in after a hike through the jungle.

    The floating guest house.

I would just step out of my room and hop in this lovely water.

I spent a 2 days with this guy exploring and trying to catch a giant snake.
I hooked a couple of jungle Perch and managed to see a snakehead take a quit look at my lure. The locals pretty much net and rape the fishing here, they don't have a clue about conservation.

    very pretty spot

stayed there in 2000, and had a ball... with a group of other farangs. Agree, it is a great spot if you like the outdoors. Think we stayed for 2 nights, but in concrete cottages, rather than tree tops. From memory the tree tops were either over booked or under construction/renovation.

Great place to either kick back and relax, or explore the jungle.
