Thailand: Heavy rains in Koh Samui warned

Koh Samui district today issues a warning announcement notifying local people of possible heavy rainfalls and strong wind in the Gulf of Thailand.

Mr. Taweesak Intaphrom, local affairs officer level 8, acting Koh Samui District Chief, stated that the Southeastern Meteorological Office has issued a warning announcement to the public regarding possible heavy rainfalls in the eastern parts of the South and strong wind in the Gulf of Thailand due to a strong northeastern monsoon covering the Gulf. Such monsoon would lead to heavy rains for the next one to two days in Surat Thani province. The Gulf of Thailand would have a couple of metres' height waves. Therefore, fishermen and boats' crews are warned to be extra cautious when navigating.

Furthermore, small boats are urged not to go off shores during the notified period, while local people residing in the risky areas are warned to be aware of flashfloods and inundation during the next four to five days or between November 23 and 27. Koh Samui district's Highways Office has prepared to prevent the possible flashfloods by arranging sandbags provision to the local people who can contact number 0-7742-5195 if more sandbags are further required.

Muang Surat's been flooding for at least the last week. Pretty steady rainfall over on the Gulf of Thailand side in the south. Nakhorn sri and Phattalung have flooded as well. Always seems to be about this time of year. On the Andaman side, at least in Phuket, it's relatively dry.

It rained all day yesterday, and last night where I am.

It's eased up a bit at the moment though, but unfortunately I have drive to the other end of the island soon, and I'm not looking forward to it, one bit.

There is a sand and gravel yard just down the road, and for the last week or more, they have had crews filling sand bags from early morning until about 11 o'clock in the night.

The rain and wind are so strong, I managed to get about 30 mins sleep last night.

Ahh ! Paradise.

^ Still, the roads are lightly flooded compared to previous years and the water is sinking quickly when raining stops.

The new road drainage here in Chaweng has made wonders together with the increased number of pumps they have to clear away the water.
