Day trip Bangkok - Cha-Am Beach.

We went for a cheap daytrip to Cha-am last week. Easy to get the mini bus from Victory Monument (160b) and were down there by 11am.



It was busy with Thais being Songkran, but we found 2 nice deckchairs and parasol to set up the food drink binge.



Really amazing how cheap it was. The first round of 2 large beer singh, ice, yellow indian curry, chips, half a grilled chicken (me), and somtam, some oyster sauce salad thing and coke came to 620b. Inc. the daily rental of the chairs etc.



Lots of friendly Thais, the teenagers all happy to say 'hello, how are youuuuuu?' when the missus was off swimming.

Put away 6 large beers, tried some prehistoric horse show crab, and had a right relaxing time.



85b for large sing and bucket of ice delivered to my table. Good stuff.



The sea was a lot of fun too, good rough surf and lots of fun.

Probably cost less than 2,000b for the 2 of us.

Altogether a nice day trip from Bangkok.

This one. Cha Am only 20kms up the road from Huahin so close enough.

I lived in Cha Am years ago. Enjoyed it and not that far from Bangkok.

Pretty much constant.

Took about 2 hours or under.

Cha-am had less whities, was less touristy, and cheaper than HH.

We'll probably go back again for a daytrip.

It kept the riff raff away. Notably they stayed in Cha-am.

what time were the vans there and back?

You can get a van from Victory Monument for 180 baht(ish).
They are located on the same road as the hospital (look for the big green cross sign).
Vans leave when they are full. When busy they are off every few minutes and the trip is around the 2hr mark.
Cha Am is a pleasant Thai seaside town with not too much to do apart from the usual drinking on the beach and eating seafood thing.

It's 160 to Cha-Am and probally 180 to go on the extra 30km to Hua-Hin.

Went there myself on Friday for half a day after been fooked around with a military hotel in Hua Hin. Very busy it was.

I did a trip to Cha Am and Hua Hin (rented a car) on my last trip -- Cha Am was very pleasant, Hua Hin was a bit overly developed.

That's how I found HH the only time I was there.

Cha-Am has a more Thai feel to it, rather than Scandinavian tourist vibes.

I like HH, been 3 times; always enjoyed it. A crab curry and a beer on the pier style restaurants is very enjoyable indeed.

I'm gonna take a drive down to Cha-am as soon as my red number plates are off, so thanks for the info MC and others.

I used to live in Hua Hin but would probably head for Cha-am if I was going that way again. Quieter for the most part, not as busy as HH.
