    3 Thai Covid Holidays

Proof of vaccinations were required at all of our stays. ATK tests were required before boarding the dive boats.

Because you might find yourself in large groups for extended periods of time, precautions should be taken before anyone attempts to take similar trips. If you are not a healthy individual, have a preexisting condition or live in a home with individuals that are not healthy or have preexisting conditions,…….stay home. Just a suggestion.

I will not be providing a link to all of the places we stayed. But they were nice.

4 bedrooms and a (day time) housekeeper. The first day whatshername mentioned to the manager that the housekeeper wouldn’t be needed fulltime (concerned about her wellbeing and us coming in after mingling with different groups of people might expose her to covid). The manager told whatshername that the housekeeper wouldn’t be paid the days we didn’t need her. The housekeeper spent most of the days outside in the garden areas when we were at home.

First visit was to Koh Lipe. A dive trip.

When we arrived a large portion of the shops were still closed or boarded up.

Security detail at one of the few restaurants that had just reopened. He was very selective about what he would take from us to eat.

And one reason we dive around Koh Lipe,…….the clear water.

We did 4 dives and an all-day snorkeling trip while on Koh Lipe. Because of safety concerns, we brought our own dive gear.

    Some of the dive pictures……

    And my new screensaver below.

We entered the water and shortly after the pinging started (one dive master trying to get our attention). The diving site was
8 Mile Rock. We were able swim with at least 3 whale sharks for about an hour, as they fed.

    • Little bit about the place we stayed while on Koh Lipe. The Cliff

It was nice, as was the staff and the food. Whatshername wanted to try two different rooms while there so we split the time. I think we might have been one of the first couples to stay a week after their reopening.

^ Thanks everyone. It’s been a while since anyone has started a current Thai holiday thread.

The next Covid holiday was to Phuket for New Year’s. I was sound asleep.

Pleasantly surprised with the number of visitors on the island. The bars, restaurants and shops seemed to be busy (Old Phuket Town)……….

    The beaches, not so much,………

We stayed on the west side of the island.

Little information about the dives. When we started scheduling the dives (covid height), we first received replies from numerous dive shops telling us they didn’t have enough passengers/divers to make the trip/s. In the end, we were able find a dive shop who managed to gather enough divers from other dive shops to fill a boat. We ended up with about 30 divers from 5 different dive shops.

Before diving we did a day trip out to the Similan Islands for snorkeling and lunch on one of the islands.

It takes about 1 hour 15 minutes to 1 hour 30 minutes to get to these islands (it can be a rough ride). A lot of divers stay on liveaboards when visiting the islands. We didn’t, for obvious reasons.

First of two dives were at Koh Bons (Bay, Wall and North Ridge)

    Banded Sea Snake

Curious angelfish during the safety stop

The second set of dives were at Richelieu Rock

    The Cuttlefish blends in well

    diving with Barracudas

extra: next post will be river rafting and the Little Amazon in Phang Nga

    ^Thank you Topper

Couple of other activities while in Phang Nga. Bamboo River rafting: https://mythailandtours.com/bamboo-rafting-in-khao-lak/

    And visited the Little Amazon.

Although the place we stayed at in Phang Nga was the nicest (first post), I couldn’t get comfortable because I was always thinking about a quick exit.
