    Ko Phi Phi during COVID

I never gave much consideration to visiting Ko Phi Phi. Of course, it's a backpacker scene, not that I have anything against young folks having some fun. But I had a curiosity to see the island and, given the current situation, what better time to go?

Booked the Harbour View Hotel on the isthmus, with the harbor in front and the beach in back, just a few minutes from the pier.

    Room was OK

The beach in the rear was very picturesque

The resort had two pools, a long, narrow one between the two buildings and a deeper one, 1.7 m, in the back towards the beach. I preferred the deeper pool. There was only one other room occupied during my stay at the Harbour View.

Like Phuket Patong, about 90% of the places were closed. There was only one open bar, The Beach Bar. Fortunately, it was right in front of my hotel and I spent lots of time there sipping mango margaritas and watching the ships come in.

You could put your feet in the water and have a free fish massage

Behind the pier was a maze of streets with shops, nearly all were closed.

    The starving artist was open

Only a few restaurants were open. Efe Mediterranean, a family-run Turkish restaurant had great food and a 20% covid discount. Lamb skewers were just 280, served on a sizzling platter.

The next day I went for the mushroom pizza, 200 baht

All bars were closed in the backpacker area

These steps led up to some backpacker guest houses, all were closed

200 baht dorm room and shared open-air bathroom

But the view was pretty good up there

Next day, I took the stairs to the Viewpoint. It was an exhausting climb.

Finally, I reach Viewpoint #1, there was a 30 baht entrance fee

There was a small park there

    Could see my hotel

Viewpoint #2 was another 500 meters up an incline

    Great views up there

    Getting back was much easier

Next day, two hour ferry ride to Klong Jilad Pier in Krabi for a pick-up to Pimalai Resort on Ko Lanta

    NEXT STOP: Ko Lanta

It's been years . . . but how eerily empty it is

I was thinking it might be pretty nice when empty but no...they messed it up so badly that even with no people there it looks full of junk.

I suppose it will give them the opportunity to make in-roads into clearing the piles of plastic rubbish they were accumulating there and on other islands, or at the very least it won't be growing so fast.

Ohh . You make me sick. Mods should pictulate all your pictures LOL

Honestly, it would be the best time to ho there. I remember reading that they had closed it down for a while to give a chance for the environment to recover. A year of covid must have done wonders.
As soon as we get back Pi PI is one of the first things in my bucket list before the hordes descent. We were there in 2007 and we loved it.

    Facebook got confused about this.

Facebook apologises for flagging Plymouth Hoe as offensive term
Social media site mistakenly labels posts referring to the seafaring landmark in Devon as misogynistic

Ha ha ha, When the first reference to "Ho" was made, I honestly did not get it.
now I see that instead of " B" I has pyped "H" . in my defence both letters are in the same keyboard so I cant be held accountable.
