Can anyone recommend an overnight resting spot for the weary traveller from Hua Hin to Samui via Donsak? Any suggestions very welcome!

I think that the half way point would be Chumporn.
Then that would leave you 190 kilometres to Surat thani & 90 kilometres Dosak.

Samui is an overdeveloped westernised dump populated with some of the most grasping and greedy thais and falangs you will ever come across.

    Dont go.

Paradise lies between prajuap and chumpon

I fully agree with the adverse post about Samui - but I have friends there.
Suratthani's out for me - ugly town, too busy, too far in one hop anyway.
I was looking for somewhere perhaps an hour or so south of Chumpon. Any ideas anyone?

Tong Wua Laen Beach in Chumpon. Several nice resorts here, some with bungalows right on the long sandy beach.

if it is just a stop over for sleep then it may aswell be surat thani, you want to see something nice and spend a few hours there then chumphon is the place, nice beaches etc.

Chumphon is fine. Ferries from Donsak run every hour on the hour. You should plan to be at the Seatran terminal 40 minutes before departure.

There are plenty of decent Thais and Farang on Samui. If you have friends there, you will be fine I'm sure.

It is so easily done in the day. set off early in the morning and with some good rest stops and stopping for lunch you can be on the afternoon ferry to Samui. I have done the same trip several times. The last ferry isn't till 7pm so even if you crawled along you could still make it.
Treat everyone as a complete and utter idiot and you can only ever be pleasantly surprised !
