    diving school??

Visited Boracay PI recently and completed my first ever dive.WOW. After snorkelling for years i never realised the difference a tank could make.
As i will be on Samui in early august i would like to do a padi open water course and i would welcome some advice.
    a) Is august suitable for diving around Samui?
    b) Could anyone recommend a good diving school?
    c) Activities to keep the Dragon Lady busy whilst i dive?

Does she swim? You cuold also sign her up of course. I know several fantastic Thai lady divers. If they go in for it, they can be really bloody good (although they tend to need a lot of support on the academics).

If not, there are loads of day spas on samui - some decent packages for a days pampering.

You will almost certanly be able to take her on the boat on your "sea" days - she could snorkle and sun bathe. maybe mix and match - one day spa, one day boat - one day sleeping.....

Unfortunately the Dragon Lady swims as well as coral flies.I'm sure she will keep herself busy shopping as she can spend better than a Greek finance minister.

^ In that case, look at Spas. Not particularly cheap for a day, but you get a pckage price - plus, book her in for a days pampering, and you will be the dogs bollocks....

She will have plenty of time for spas when we reach Phuket. We are meeting up with some friends from the land of the wrong white crowd for a bit of re-union.Thats why i want to do my diving at samui because when she gets together with the rest of the coven there is time for nothing else.

I think Samui is not best place, most divers go out to Kho Tao for the day dive, what is near 2 hours boat away.

August might have good price deals, lot of rain eventually and rough unclear sea. It is just not the best season over there in august.

Pukhet is to avoid at that time of year, one rainy day after the other, but lowest hotel price of the year...

Choose an island where you can dive, not need hours of boating to reach the dive spot !

If it is for some course only it might be OK...

You got plenty of time to plan for a better stay and dive.
Monday,Tuesday, then it goes WTF !

    ^ Yup.
Book on Samui, but dive elsewhere (Koh Tao).

Sounds like Koh Tao is the go.Don't mind a little boat ride here and there.Know there is a fair chance Phukets' weather will be shite but hoping Samuis' will hold for us.

As said there is no diving around Samui. You can either spend a few days there, best option in my opinion or you take a speedboat there and back which takes around 1.5 hours each way. What you can do is do your pool work and academics on Samui then just go to Tao to do you 4 open water dives. that way you get a bit of each island.
