If we leave the dock with 10 divers we return with 10 divers.
    That's reassuring to hear.

I got all my certificates with Dive Asia here in Phuket.
They are very professional, have good equipment and a tiptop staff. They're training facility and pool in Kata is very nice also.
The diving around Phuket is pretty good.

serious comment - a couple of years ago 2 Merkins where left behind on a dive site in australia - they drowned.

(mind you this has always confused me - how can somebody drown wearing a wetsuit scuba equipment - just inflate your BCD and then remain on the surface... panic i guess. )

(damn, better add aussie run operations to my generalisations about thai's)

Sorry about that, We took it down a few days ago as it is severly outdated.

We are going to be adding new content and pictures and some other stuff, However I have to run off to the Philippenes this week and will not be able to do any reviews on the new stuff until I come back.

In this case I think you read "drown" as "consumed by sharks".

I just realised that I should have done this over the four days I am off.

Somebody remind me in January and I'll do it then when I have another 4 days.

You can do the course over several weekends, probably best actually as their is a load of info and tables you need to learn.

The 2 weekend approach works as well. There is a lot to learn and by doing it over 2 weekends it gives you a week to digest the information. We recently taught some people from 1 of the embassies in Bangkok and that was the way only way they could do it. They came down on a friday night and started Saturday morning and finished on sunday then came back the following weekend.

got my 'advanced open water cert' from the folks at mermaids a couple of years ago with a friend (recommended). did it straight through in just under 2 weeks. lots to learn. folks at mermaids seemed quite knowledgeable and very safety oriented (i liked this)-and good at teaching. would give them a rec.

with exception of the wrecks (which are ok) the diving around pattaya ain't so great for entertainment but plenty good for learning and the classes (once you dive out of phuket or other places you'll realize this).

just remember: BWRAF....bangkok women really are fun.... (bouyancy, weights, release, air supply, final ok/check)

I did my solo with Steve Burton (Mermaids) in Pattaya many moons ago - most memorable and enjoyable training I ever had.
