    Diving Doc in Bkk

Anybody know of a good diving experienced doctor in Bkk ??

I learned to dive in Darwin in Oz....15 metre tides or whatever it was and crocs and sharks and jellyfish.

Anyway, I blew an eardrum up a long time ago on a dive. It bled all night on me pillow and ever since I have problems with sinus' and I cannot even duck dive down to 6/8 feet without some paind across the top of the nose.

I would like to see what the problem is and if can be fixed as I would like to start diving again some time in the not to distant future.
I like poisoning my neighbours dogs till they die cos I'm a cnut

If the damage to your eardrum was 'a long time ago', chances are that the damage may be permanent. This is the kind of thing that you should have attended to immediately.

That being said, it's really a question of what symptoms accompanied the initial damage -- obviously, you had bleeding, but was it accompanied by hearing loss -- and most of all, has the hearing lost persisted, or have you recovered 100% of your hearing in that ear (in other words, have you had a bilateral hearing test performed since then, or recently?)

If your hearing has recovered, and you have persistent sinus problems (or sinus infections), it could either be that you have a scarred and not 100% healed tymphanic membrane, a cyst in your inner ear, or that you initially suffered infection of the inner ear that caused damage to your sinus connecting passages.

You should be able to get a decent initial examination and diagnosis from any ENT specialist, for example at Bumrungrad.

    Good luck.

There was no real hearing loss from memory, a reduction possibly because of the inflamation etc I guess. But I have not had hearing problems and I have not had a hearing test for a long time.

I get a bit concerned about quality of workmanship at these 'all you can get' kind of medical hospitals....jack of all trades but master of none kind of thing.

I was hoping a diving doc would know more relative to what I have and am experiencing when duck diving etc.

I will give bumgrab a go if I cannot find a dive doc, I will go to some dive shops this week and ask them if they know of any.

Think any half competent ear specialist can examine you to see if you have a perforated ear drum or the like. BNH has a couple of really good ear specialists.

When duck diving are you doing the ole squeeze your nose and equalize thing. If not expect some pain even at 6-8 feet.

Cannot squeeze the nose and equalize.....I try, but the pain and my eyes nearly pop out and that makes my son laugh underwater and nearly drown....so cannot continue to put us both in danger.

Put it this way....a doc in Oz sometime after it happened told me I need a 'rebore'....that was enough to scare me the fcuk into never going back.

Likely you have a sinus/eustachian tube problem then not an ear problem. Ear doc can check to see if your eustachian tube/s are blocked and what can be be done to remedy. Unless you are able to equalize, diving will not be a pleasant experience and will result in permanent ear damage.

Bet you have discomfort when flying as well?

The rebore would be to reopen the passageway (eustachian tube) to the inner ear.

Flying is not usually uncomfortable, although yes i do feel it possibly more than others. This last flight a few weeks ago from Krabi to Bkk after several days snorkelling and lotsa water in the ears was the most painfull I had experienced.

I wonder if I can get an 'AllIn' kinda package deal...seems I am falling apart these days and getting knocked out and the lot done at once would be nice....knees, teeth, sinus, throat, give the whole body a good going over.....might even ask for an anal probing.

All joking aside, go in and have them do a complete physical. I use Bangkok Nursing Home for annual checks. Bumrungrad has similar stuff.

That would be of concern if you were dealing with a single doctor who claims expertise in all of these different specialties -- hospitals are essentially one big building, that employs different specialists for each different specialty.

Bumrumgrad is especially good about having a wide variety of specialists, and able to accommodate you if you prefer only English speaking doctors. The only drawback, these days, is purely a personal issue, and that is that the hospital is heavily swamped by arabs for various reasons. Good for Bumrungrad's finances, I guess, and so far I have seen no reason to look elsewhere, as I prefer them having years of my medical history on file.

Instead of just squeezing the nose, as you squeeze it move your jaw from side to side, it works for me without squeezing my nose

As said above, you don't need a 'dive doc', you need a good ENT doctor.

Might add that in 1991, I started fairly heavy bleeding from nose while diving. SEAL Team dive doctor set it up for me to go to Yokosuka Naval Station hospital in Japan for sinus surgery. Doc there did what he called the sinus blue plate special and drilled everything out, also removing a large long polyp from one nasal cavity. Never had a problem since.

Sheesh. Any ENT would do. However, if you insist on a "diving doc" take a trip to Phuket:
