Marilyn Monroe died 60 years ago and is now buried under her cult which, as cults tend to, exists not to celebrate but to conceal and damn her. Monroe has been traduced, fictionalised and commercialised. She has been made into a cautionary tale: that’s what happens when you look like Marilyn and act like Marilyn. You die and your autopsy photograph ends up in a bestselling biography. Why not sell she who always sold herself?

Just watched it. Reckon could be called demeaning but I thought less demeaning and more about what brought her to death at such a young life. The lady had a tough life.

I heard good things about it, but have yet to watch it. I'll watch it this weekend!
Thanks for reminding me. I heard her life was rough and that it was terrible to be a female actress in a male dominated industry.

Candle in the Wind was the "B" side of Goodbye Yellow Brick Road. When it was released I recall saying that it deserved to be better known. Diana's death made sure it was.

I liked the version that Sir Elton did at Mother Teresa's funeral, "Sandals in the Bin".
