Hazards of sobriety

Sober December until Xmas thought a good plan before festive excess of the last week of 2021.

Some unexpected consequences my wife looks more and more like her mother daily.......Close yer yes and think of Blondie

Harry Hugh and Cyrille seem to make quite sober and reasonable ripostes to my excrescences.

We have 7 cats not 6 , I can understand France 24 completely again and some of the locals at he local shop/still who appeared to be friendly gibbering idiots always happy to pour me a double when cycling are exactly that.

The most worrying thing and a warning to any who may abstain there's a funny old bloke gazing back from the shaving mirror, not sure if he's an alien an odd bod!

The major hazard of sobriety is becoming a fuking boring bastard with a sense of humour deficit, we have plenty of examples on here. Just look at the younger generation and what a vanila future they are ploughing, fuk how dull its going to be, devoid of risk, casual sex and drugs.:)

Who needs Beer to be a happy chappie, if you need booze to brighten you up, you need counselling:)

Dry January for me and new gym membership.

FFS I need to sort my body out, two years on the piss has taken its toll.

I have 3 large bottles of Leo each day over the course of 3 hours and whilst doing physical labour during the afternoon shift.

Then I stop......, have a shower, then dinner and in bed asleep by latest 5.00pm.

Hence the saying...

Early to bed, early to rise.
Makes man healthy, wealthy and wise:)

I don't know about wealthy but I feel great with never a hangover.

Formally I would drink about a bottle of JW each evening and be in bed at 4.0 am.

Glad these days are behind me with no real damage.

How long did you do that for?

Over 14 years and whilst I lived in Bangkok and was in the bars most nights.

Pulled the plug when I moved to Pattaya and my daughter was born.

Any bets on how long that will last? I have a mate here who regularly gives himself a 6 week dry spell, but then goes mental each time again afterwards. Three day benders, beers at 09:00am...

Pretty similar , The late great JJ drank even more tho much larger frame than me and smoked around 3 packs a day until near the end. Together with even younger Tommy of the Lizard lounge, both younger than I and both dead from a life of heavy drinking, when first here bars/shabeens open all hours, so drink til dawn common.
Spirits n the morning a good sign of the keen, I have never been a morning drinker and aside from my Spanish years seldom at lunchtime when working which usually involved driving.

I think things have changed but in the past Ireland UK OZ most social life pub club disco or party revolved around booze and Friday night on was chug until you drop /run out of money nod off/cop off time. It seemed less so in USA in my student years in Florida Micanopy madness , local weed or sipping beers on porches/beaches rather than bar scene, very seldom saw type of drunken brawls which are common every weekend in UK, Sydney etc.

Seldom touch spirits these days the odd Bloody Mary on the rare flights since Covid.
When boozing I was also a chain smoker been off foe almost a decade and probably the single best health move.

I stick to a small glass of red with dinner that some Mediterranean's claim s actually good for you.
Had one tinny this December and expect to share a few over Xmas meal and bought d a nic bottle of white wine to go with the seafood.

Aside from lucidity one of the overlooked aspects of not being permanently pissed is no awful headbanging hangovers and endless breakages spillages and general chaos.
