Is an international drivers permit required in the US or can I use my Thai car and motorcycle license there. I want to be able to rent a car when I get there so need to know if it's possible with only the Thai license? Thanks for any help.
I know the process to get the permit here and the cost is 550 baht and 2 pics, signed copy of passport, Thai license and an affidavit of residence. I've looked on Google but don't know for sure.
Thai license is ok. What I use on visits to California.
Some states require IDP.
Depends on the state. Last visit to the US I checked with New Jersey and Pennsylvania. I would advise you to get one. Pennsylvania doesn't require an International Permit (but an English translation is required). Thai licenses have English translation.Quote:

Been home the last 3 years in a row, rented a car each time. No need for the international permit anymore. The new Thai drivers license has your name in English, have you PP with you as well.
You can also get on a 1000cc with your Thai mocy license you gained from riding around 5 cones and across a narrow bridge on a scooter:)
