Imber - Britains lost (well, stolen) village

So this place is not that far away from where I live. As a kid we used to ride our bikes up to it, sometimes getting our days wrong and turning the corner onto a all out military exercise. Or was that the right days? Now it's a bit tougher to get in (bloody muslims) but they open it up a couple of times a year, supposedly to let relatives in to tend graves.

The drive up to it is like a war zone with bombed out tanks littering the landscape

The Church is still in perfect knick - the army is not allowed to practice shooting up churches yet it seems. The mosque has been flattened though.

Church use as coffee shop to raise money for keeping the church in good repair. I would have thought the army could have done that at least!

Dug and Dave were the hoax. I've been in and seen their efforts, and compared to the real ones, where the wheat is bent 90 degrees and completely unbroken (try doing that with just one blade let alone a load) they are amateurs. All broken and wheat lying all over the place. The real ones they copied, yet unexplained, all the wheat follows the same path and unbroken.

I vaguely remember Top Gear doing a few laps in a place like that.

Was it Imber?

I think that was the German Village down the road. Purpose built for European house to house combat just before the end of the cold war.... Filled with sand and goats now I think, soon to be replaced with KPop girls and kimchi

Correct the British tanks used to practice against Germans until they bent over, so the German village was built around 1980s ready for when the bear mauled the hun,

The Tank regiment visited once recruiting lads heading to Raleigh and I spent around 30 seconds in a APC absolutelly terrifying like a metal coffin let alone the thought of being BBQ'd by the enemy, special breed of blokes like submariners and lighthouse keepers seems ok in a movie until you confront the reality.
