I know there is another thread that asks about the best guitarists in the world, but I think that is too broad for me being a rock fan. Who would you say are the 10 best rock guitarists in the world?

Here are mine to get everyone started:
1. Jimmy Hendrix
2. Jeff Beck
3. Eddie Van Halen
4. Eric Clapton
5. Chuck Berry
6. Calos Santana
7. Duane Allman
8. Peter Townsand
9. Brian May
10. Jimmy Page
Depends if you're talking about technique or enjoyment.
For me Angus Young is my favourite guitarist, but he's technically 'retarded' compared with some of the fret wankers along the lines of Malmsteen/Satriani/Vai.
Neil Young... One of the great Cats

Only three: Alvin Lee, Ritchie Blackmore, & Jimmy Hendrix
What, no Slash?
Slash would be in my top 5..along with this chap..Quote:

Chuck Berry collapses while performing at a concert on New Year's Day in Chicago
Chuck Berry is recovering after collapsing during a concert on New Year's Day. The seminal rock'n'roller is "fine", his agents said, after paramedics were called to a gig in Chicago. The 84-year-old refused refused hospital treatment and left the venue without assistance.
Some of you may not have heard of Sister Rosetta Tharpe

^^
If you tried to give rock and roll another name, you might call it Chuck Berry.
1. John Fusciante...................:1st:
2. Got a coin?
what about 'alive and under 50' (some of us are!) that would narrow it down
this thread is in serious risk of becoming another in the category: 'boring old farts re-living half-remembered good ol' days'
Leadbelly
Robert Johnson
Django Reinhardt
BB King
Ry Cooder
Robbie Robertson
JJ Cale
Jimmie Hendrix
Jimmy Page
Duane Allman
Philistine! :)

Glad to see BB King and Luceile got up there. Great music.

what about
Suzi Quatro ?
I have also seen BB King, but when I started this thread, I was thinking Rock and not Blues or R&B so they should be left out. Slash and Neil Young are also favorites of mine, but not in my personal top 10, and no you don't have to be over 50 to contibute. My 22 year old son is a Slash fan and would probably put him at number one.
Frank Zappa?
I'd say George Benson, Jerry Douglas, and Albert Lee, but that's stretching the boundaries of rock a bit too far, but then you are including Django Reinhardt!
I admit I was too inclusive but if you limit yourself to rock lead guitarists you should also pinpoint the decades you want to include. And then maybe sort out nationality, left and right handed, long or short hair, race, gender... :mid:Quote:

I have given everyone a clue as to what I call rock, what is your definition of rock? Is it rock and roll, hard rock and does it traverse all decades or only limited to a short time period?
zappa, jeff back, neil young and eric clapton and a honourable mention for robin trower.
All good choices.
First post virgin but to me the top 3 are the game changers: Jimi, Eddie and Jimmy
After that you could argue for anyone but those 3 turned rock guitar on its head and influenced generations like no others did.
BTW I suggest you catch Slash when he's here if you are a doubter. I saw this show last year in SG and it completely changed my opinion of not only Slash but how far up there he his in comparing him to his peers. In a way he influenced a generation of guitarists as did people like Ace Frehley and Kirk Hammet
Forgive the spelling.
Yuwingwee Malmlestean
Zappa, a bit random for my tastes.
John Mc
Aldimiola.
Paco de Lucia.
Warren Cuccarula.
Stevie Via.
Steve Howe.
To name a few.
Bass players.
Chris Squires.
John Wetton.
Geddy Lee.
Etc.....
John Petrucci - Dream Theater
Ty Tabor - King's X
Steve Howe - Yes
Eddie Van Halen
Jimi Hendrix
Tony McAlipine
George Benson
Stanley Jordan
Alex Lifeson - Rush
Randy Rhodes - Ozzy
She played bass didn't she?Quote:

My favourite rock guitarist is the man who influenced one of my other favourites as chosen by LT (agreeing with him is tough)
John McGeoch. RIP.
Close enough.Quote:
