The one that Norton linked to has a transfer speed of 6GB/s and needs a motherboard that will support that speed with an eSATA socket.
If you only have USB sockets then go for a 3GB/s
Right ho.
No I haven't got an eSATA from the look of things.
So 3gb/s it'll be.
Phew, thanks again. That could have been a tad embarrassing. :)
Where's "up here"? You really can't get a 2TB external? In Chiang Mai at least I'm sure they have the 2TB Western Digital MyBook in at least one of the shops at Panthip (the one that sells professional video and audio kit). If they haven't, I'm sure they can order for you, they're all over Panthip BKK.
10 hour return trip.Quote:

Fantastic service to, If I buy on a Monday (and transfer the coin to their account at the same time) I will have it sitting on my office desk by lunchtime Wednesday.
I believe the appropriate phrase is "ouch".

Oh, if you want a price guide:
http://www.pantipplaza.com/home_base.php?lan=eng
Select Hard Drive External in the pull downs on the left.
Try JIB Computers, they may have a store in your area.
You can see pricing here (scroll down):
J.I.B. COMPUTER GROUP
If no JIB store in your area, have a Thai help you with ordering one. A good firm & competitive pricing.
Ok, many thanks to all of the above.
I've ordered from InvadeiT and look forward to getting the package soon. Excellent.
Once I've got my 2tr then all movies get dumped on to it. Nice.
But..... My USB equipped DVD player ( 600 baht from Macro) won't accept more than a 4 gb usb input.
Whilst it's no major hassle to drop the evenings entertainment onto a 4gb thumb stick it would be very cool to plug in the mega drive and not have to get out of bed for a week...... :)
Does this mean I need a new DVD player?
You need a media player. Your HDD will plug straight in and you can play anything.Quote:

The best two IMO are the Popcorn Hour C-200 or the HDi Dune Pro but they are of course the most expensive!
Saw one in my local PC shop. Believe it was an Asus ePlay. Without drive 4,500 baht. Looked like just the ticket for JJ.Quote:

Can sometimes get them replaced under guarantee, but your data is gone, unless you've backed it up to *another* hard disk.
Hmmm, a media player eh?
I shall investigate.
I presume such a device will plug into any old TV. ?
I found in Europe a lot of nice and cheap media player, HD mostly, and below 4,000 THB
Should do unless the TV is really old.Quote:

Splendid, thanks again to one and all.
If you get good service from InvadeIT, you can buy media player from them.

All good we'll go for the rest through them.
It's just too boring to drive to Chiang Mai and start searching shops, then maybe overnight, etc etc.
I'm really hoping this mob turn out ok cos it'll certainly make life a lot easier.
Thanks again.
What type of TV ya running?Quote:

Really good deals on some nice ones nowadays - topbrand 50inch LCDs for under 30k and the such.
The first thing I did after getting me external HDD and downloading gigs and gigs of docos and movies was get a nice LCD TV (and sound system). Can't beat it with a HDD full of good stuff. Well recommended.
Cheap old crap and it'll stay that way for a while.Quote:

I don't put down the folks that want the "big screens" but, not my priority in life.
Happy days.
Coolio.
I find it good for nature docos. The upgrade in quality from a few years ago is literally breathtaking. I lost interest in TV upon moving here, and still only watch the live football, with some of the news channels going on from time to time. But the BBC docos through 1080p or whatever it is take your breath away.
You're right.Quote:
