Restaurant Workers Kill Robber

The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office (South Carolina, USA) tells News Channel 7 no charges will be filed against the Sonny's Restaurant employees who fired at the suspected robbers.
16-year-old Michael Davidson was shot to death after an attempted armed robbery ended in gunfire.




One of the few things I still proud about with America are our gun laws and the fact we can use them. Unlike Britain, victims who fight back and even kill intruders or robbers are congradulated by the cops, not arrested or prosecuted.

Yeah but in England the 16 year old would most likely not have had a gun in the first place.

Yeah but he'd probably have kicked some poor unfortunate person to death instead. Then blamed it on his upbringing to get a lighter sentence. Does it really matter in what was used ?

I doubt he would have had time to kick anyone to death in the middle of a robbery.

If you expect to be met with guns, you take a gun. If you don't expect to be shot at then you don't take a gun as the risk and penalty make it not worthwhile.

Want to kill someone in America?

Invite them over to your place. Murder them. Tell the police they were robbing the place.

Although the UK has gone loopy, I still don't think you would be jailed for protecting yourself against an armed robber. Convictions in the past have been been against people killing unarmed intruders, shooting them as they ran away etc..

I hear Muslim Lawyers are now all the rage in the UK.

A robbery doesn't justify the untimate penalty of a death sentence.

He was only sixteen & it was only a little bit of money. It wouldn't have hurt anybody to just give him the cash.

Gun law - you can stick it.

It was armed robbery, you go in with guns you expect what happens.

An armed robbery justifies an armed response- were they supposed to wait and hope he didn't shoot and kill them?

A sixteen-year-old can shoot you dead just as easily as someone older- if you're dumb enough to pull a gun, you had better be ready for the possible consequences- nobody is going to ask to see your ID and give you a 'pass' if you're a teenager.

Because they were working in the restaurant when the crominals came into rob them. If you want to disagree without whether or not people should be allowed to defend their property that is one thing, but this response makes no sense.
Also you cannot invite someone over and kill them. There is some investigation and if that was found to be the case, there wold be a prosecution. A dead robber is no loss to anyone.

disregarding the age, this punk went with intent, far as i,m concerned he got what he deserved, he should have stayed home and played 'GRAND THEFT AUTO' instead, nobody should have the threat of some arseole shoveing a gun in thier face whilst they are trying to make an honest liveing

Steady on there old chap, here in England we have a long tradition of protecting criminals who are just out trying to dishonest shilling or two.

I do appreciate that things are done a little differently in the colonies but for gods sake man, remember your heritage :)

If they would have simply give him the few quid he was after he would've been out of the door five seconds later. If they had simply told him to fuckoff he likely would have. You lot have been watching too many Dirty Harry repeats & think that's normal.

A sixteen year old with a gun in your face is just, "a gun in your face".


I wasnt there and cant say how dodgy it was for the guys being robbed but I can't criticize them for (for all I know) saving there own lives.

I know what you're saying, a few of the kids round here go around tooled-up & they're vicious little bastards, but if one pointed a gun at me & told me to give them my wallet, I would just hand it over & they'd be gone - end of story.

Nobody dies.

If they noticed I was going for a gun of my own he's ten times more likely to shoot me in the face.

When you're being robbed at gunpoint, you're being robbed, just give it up, it's not worth it, they're not actually going to shoot you or they would have done it already.

I have never had a gun pointed at me (in anger so to speak) but I have been held with a knife against my throat (three, 17- 22 years olds). I think that the feeling of helplessness and panic are very similar. I would have done anything to get myself away from that knife, including killing my assailants, I was full in panic. I understand full well how the victims of this attempted robbery felt, they were the victims here, not the agressors. It's very sad that a young lad has died, but I may well have done the same were I in their place.

Finding 12 jurors in South Carolina that would convict the shooters would be near impossible. Why would they waste their time trying?

FURIOUS betting shop customer Martin Richardson leapt into action as an armed robber threatened to shoot him — flattening him with a chair.

Brave Martin's citizen's arrest — shown in amazing CCTV footage — came as the masked raider appeared to cock the gun ready to fire and ordered him to open the door so he could escape.
But 18 stone man mountain Martin, 48, — father of Leeds Rhinos rugby league star Ryan Bailey — said: "I looked him in the eyes, he was just a few feet from me.





"I thought: 'I am not opening the door, if he shoots me, he shoots me but I am not opening that door'.
"Then I picked up the chair and smashed him twice with it. He went down and I managed to kick the gun out of his hand."
Amateur rugby player Martin — a former judo enthusiast — then locked his legs round stunned robber Azar Sulman and pinned him to the ground for SEVEN MINUTES as police raced to the William Hill bookies in Burley, Leeds, West Yorkshire.
Sulman, 20, who carried out four raids in three months on the betting chain — including three at Burley — was yesterday starting a six year jail sentence for robbery and attempted robbery.
And 5ft 11ins Martin, from Leeds, was praised by a judge at Leeds Crown Court for his "tremendous courage."
The punter was playing on fruit machines at bookies when masked Sulman burst in brandishing a hand gun in January.

Gunpoint


Shocked staff put up their hands as he forced cashier Dean Key to hand over cash. Then he started storming round the bookies threatening customers at pistol point.
But Martin refused to budge as he blocked the way out and found himself staring down the barrel of the handgun.
Martin said: "I stood back near the door. He was near a table and it looked like he was cocking the gun. He wanted me to open the door and kept shouting he would shoot me if I did not open it.
"I was scared, I couldn't be certain whether the gun was real or not, I thought he might shoot me anyway for getting in his way.
"I looked him in the eyes, he was just a few feet from me — but I was not going to open that door."
The CCTV footage shows Martin grab a metal frame chair and then lunge at Sulman as the raider backed away pointing the gun.
Then in an overhead motion he brought the chair down on the terrified gunman's head. And he followed it up by crashing the chair down on him again before kicking the gun out of his hand.
Martin added: "I managed to get my legs around his body and held him there for seven minutes until the police came. I used to do judo and he could not move. I have to admit I was shaking when I was on the floor."
Prosecutor Michael Smith, said police had since discovered the gun was a fake — but Martin had "no way" of knowing that it was not loaded with bullets.

Drugs


Judge Scott Wolstenholme sentenced Sulman to six years and awarded Martin £250 from public funds for his courage.
The court heard that Sulman — who had been a "model student" while attending college — had got involved with drugs and turned to crime to pay for a £200 a week cannabis habit.
Judge Wolstenholme branded him an "immature fantasist" who had brought shame on his family.
His run of raids began on November 26 last year when he robbed the Burley shop at gunpoint and made off with £355.
On December 22 he struck at another William Hill shop in the city — but fled with just small change from the till.
He tried to raid the Burley shop again on January 14 but ran off empty-handed after the staff escaped through a back door.
Finally two weeks later as he tried to flee with takings from Burley he was thwarted by father-of-three Martin.
Paul Williams, representing Sulman, from Leeds, said he was a naïve young man who had been too ashamed and humiliated to tell his family about his drug involvement and debts.
William Hill manageress Patricia White, 41, said: "These were frightening attacks but I won't let people like that affect me or my job. If people come into William Hill in future they won't be getting any money.
"We are not there simply to be targeted to dole out money to drug dealers.

hardly the case madjbs. this is not the chicken and egg issue. ammendments allowing the right to carry arms were written rights to allow for protection of self and belongings.

There are excesses in all judicial systems
But one thing is for sur: there is no developed country with the leven of violence and insecurity as the usa. That must be what rob is so proud of, a country where 6 year old kids even manage to kill with their daddys gun.
Is shooting a 16 year old robber is a achievement to be proud of?

I think that they should be jailed indeed for possesing weapons att least. How about every snack bar in uk having a shot gun, just in case...??
We (should not) don't live in the wild west where every body is supposed to take the law in their own hands.
Do not get me wrong i am pretty pissed of about some excesses in europe and that the police is not ( can not) do their job well and our politicians who are ......well.. they suck generally. But it still beats usa in most things, like guns and violence, corruption of politicians and officials etc

Dear CM:

Having Canadian 'roots', I've always been fascinated by the social and economic progress achieved by the USA's northern (conservative/socialistic) neighbor. Some behavioral anthropologists consider Canadians to be the happiest people in the entire western hemisphere (I should add that [at] 3 out of 4 Canadians live within 100 miles of the USA border). Only rarely do they shoot bullets at one another.

I would enjoy to read your thoughts on such matters.
