I have been told by my school that we have to scan our thumb for the daily sign-in and sign-out, thay have also said that this is requested by Thai law??
can anyone let me know if the thumb scan is required by law? personally i think they are talking a load of shite.

Sign-in/out may be required under Thai Labour Law but I highly doubt it specifies thumb scans. We use them at our office too though; interestingly enough a Court in Hong Kong recently ruled that they (thumb scanners) were an 'invasion of privacy'.

I knew a bloke who was teaching in some school, Sarasass I think. They had a thumbscanner... for all 250 teachers. You can picture the queue at 4pm on a Friday afternoon.
Same as my school, we have one. They're telling you a load of bollocks I'm afraid.
It was installed at my school 3 months ago to stop all the Thai teachers from clocking in and out for each other.

Yes. Westerners would never do things like sign in for eachother. Simply impossible. It's solely a (sneaky) Thai trait.
What's the big deal? We use a fingerprint scan in my job here (UK) to sign in. Only prob is the clock's set a few mins slow, so you always have to wait a few mins to sign out or be docked 15 mins pay... *sigh* :(

School teacher, whether here or in the West is supposed to be the type of job that carries respect and dignity, and the privilege of being trusted to work your required hours seems like a part of that respect.
My school has a sign sheet, but so long as it's filled out no one really checks. Your can fill all 10 in/outs for the week on Friday afternoon if you want to.
Also as professionals, teachers are allowed to freely come and go during the day so long as they do not miss their classes. Maybe I'm just lucky to be working at a school with good management.
This type of business is already quite well established in the UK. To obtain state benefits you now need a thumb print. Some enterprising souls are digging up corpses, removing their thumbs and then making a benefit claim.Quote:

Believe it or not. There is a team from the MOE that does go to each school and check out whether or not the teachers have signed in and out.
I spent one afternoon signing in and out. :)
its no big deal,
the door to my classroom has a thumbscan... no biggie.
Its not like they are taking blood from you, or probing you in any other way
