Is this a new hoop we must jump through?

Well guys, the wonderful Thai immigration has me all bunged up!! My Visa is up in a few days so I headed down to the office of confusion with two trees worth of papers to satisfy their sadistic tendencies. I thought I was in the home stretch as the lemming was stamping away on all my papers when he told me I need to have my landlord's house registration and fill out a "Notification From the House Master, Owner or Possessor of the Residence Where Alien Has Stayed " form.

I am wondering if any of you have heard of this form before as I have NEVER filled one out before.

Why does this small matter bung me up? My landlord is out of the country until October. :(

When I politely told him it was not on the list from the immigration he got all uptight and said that all us foreigners always blame the office and it is not his fault.

I am hoping my immigration specialist Thetyim chimes in :)

Yep, you (or rather your Landlord) has to file a TM30 form showing that you live in his house.
I did one years ago and have never been asked for it but I have kept a copy just in case.

It does beggar the question "why is it the farang's job to make sure that the landlord has done his duty?"

Wasted my whole day AND how can I get it from the landlord being he is out of the country???

The officer said they need to fill it our and also provide me with a copy of their house registration signed by them.

Can the landlords wife do it for you?

*edit*^I think kind of what I'm suggesting....I'm thinking your land lord knows you are staying there and has no problem with that right?? so since there is no record of him signing anything before now it seems, how can they recognize his signature? He's out of country, deal with it when he gets back if necessary? but give them what they're asking for now.. ;) :mid:

Need the house registration too.

I think this is the same Proof of Residence paper that you need for a driving license.

How about if you temporarily "rent" another place from a land-lord who is present.
I'm sure someone could do this for you for a small consideration.

I think the officer is being awkward if he wants a TM30 plus ID card and house registration papers.
Nowhere on the TM30 does it say you have to attach anything.

Did you ask if you could submit the TM30 later?

Yes we did and he said no because all the paperwork will be transferred to the main office and then he will get in trouble. He did say he wants to "help" :rolleyes: and that I can be late :rolleyes: and not to worry. :confused:

That would work but it will probably be easier and cheaper to give the awkward sod a "tip"

shite!! :bigeyes2: I see that now, this is a real problem for me too potentially as the owner of our house is Chinese and only comes over once a year just to renew his ownership papers and pay taxes and we never know when that happens as he is very hard to get in touch with.. :( Fortunately for us I have a back up plan that wouldn't apply to you though unfortunately.. I hope it isn't necessary at all though since my missus company always handles it.. But thanks, as now I'm on guard and won't get blind sided..

Yeah Chi, and then another officer helps you and fines you for being late. Even with a non-imm B up here in you know where, sometimes they ask for the same type of thing even when you're renting an apartment. You might want to consider doing all the processing back in your wife's hometown, then you can use her mother's house registration and just stay in Bkk.

I tend to agree with Thetyim based on the answer above when you pressed him.. Squeaky hinge and all that, but in the case of immigration very touchy issue indeed, especially in an office the size of Bangkok..Difficult to be discrete...
Maybe Buggin's advice is the way to go..Though technically it puts you in a tenuous position when you come back on the off chance that anyone were to check...

I don't think it does.
The address you must use is the house you are living in on the day that you apply for an extension.
You don't have to be living there for the full year.

To cover yourself just send in a 90 day report giving your "new" address

well but Chi, if you told them your land lord was out of country what choice would you have anyway?? just tell them you had no choice but to move for the 3 months under the circumstances.. Or at least to rent another place to make yourself legal..It's their archaic law, not yours, you're just trying to comply..It works even better if it's your in-laws, makes perfect sense moving in with them for the time being...

Tell them that as your landlord has not complied with his legal obligation to file a TM30 you have been forced to move house in order to comply with the immigration rules.

I have it, but I am sure they know exactly who I am. Also the office told me I have to come back and see him and no one else....

from my perspective, even better, he should understand the situation you're in without having to go into a bunch of detail.. in the end he just wants to be able to cover his ass if anyone checks on him..

Must be after a donation then.
Ask him if he can help you get your extension now without the TM30 and will 3k baht cover his expenses.

I suggest that you do not go past yout expiry date on any account.
As soon as you are on overstay he will have your balls in a sling and can demand a lot of money to help you clear your extension.

3k to start? Jeeeezzz you're generous..Personally I wouldn't offer a number I would just ask how much for his trouble and go from there...That way your not actually proposing any particular amount either in case it backfires..If he politely declines your out of any uncomfortable situations.

I was thinking more along the lines of 3k baht as a take it or leave it option.

Chi still has the option of using another address, either friend or family, and going to another immigration office.

I have a Thai wife visa. My wife owns the house. We had to submit the photos of us standing in front of the place. My wife did all the paperwork (twice so so far) and she never had any problems. No lawyers needed. I went to the U.S. Embassy to get the $50.00 rip-off statement of my yearly earnings. I think that she may have provided paperwork about the house. She works in a goverment job (post office). Last time we went up to the 5th floor office to submit the paperwork. It seems to move faster there then the mess on the ground floor. I have that 90 day check-in like the rest of the "happy camper's " here. That place is total confusion. It's between heaven and hell on earth. Good luck my friend. I feel your "pain".

Chi, the whole "letter of residence" thing is a clusterfcuk.

If I were you I wouldn't bother with it. Better to buy the letter from your Embassy for 30$ or whatever.

However, the tm30 form Thetters linked to on the previous page should be used to report to your local police station that "chi the alien is living at this address".

Ahh, yes, there's another solution. Well done Spin.
Take a completed TM30 to your local police station and get them to sign it off.
See if they will do it without ID and house papers.

Then take the receipt part of the TM30 to immigration as proof that it has been done.

Will do. Wonder if they will go back on there word when I produce a different doc. :)

I always have my rental agreement and they've never asked for anything else. There is a real problem when there is no exact procedure and you have a bunch of buffoons trying to outdo each other.

I found myself in a similar situation. My wife 'phoned her sister and she came to the Imm O 5 mins later with her papers.

It's just beaurocracy, a set of tick boxes from powers that be. Nothing sinister.

If you don't have a signed by owner copy of the house's registration, you haven't got a legal lease. How would you even know they actually own the property ( TIT )

Would a Thai driver's license w/address same, coupled w/ copy of the lease suffice?

I haven't had to produce this form before- going on 3rd year, is this new ?

Yes, what is the point of the pervert criminal styled 90 day reporting w an address when they never ask for proof of address?

What about a cable or computer utility bill for visa address verification, might hold them off or get you an extension until the landlord comes back,.

I would say don't fake anything though... tooo easy to come back and bite you.

If you go anyplace but BKK you will have a hell of a lot less problems, I had to go to NAN this time and it was the easiest one I have done so far, and BKK was the worst.
I will never go to BKK immig office again.
