was on the thai news awhile ago about some 43 year old Aussie on a big bike tangled with a truck and killed him today??
bike, truck
not a good combination
sad news
Seems to be an awful lot of falang dying in thailand recently.
I would say there are probably over a million farang in Thailand at any given time and as a high percentage of us do things they would not attempt to do in our birth country I don't think the death rate is that high.
There are also a lot of retirees and or people of considerable age so the death rate will be higher through natural causes.
Anyway 43 years young and may he rest in peace. :) Poor bugger!
yes, his name is jim (sorry, don't know his surname). he was out riding with our regular crew....i didn't make this trip to CM as my bike is in the shop. i haven't met him in person, just online. he went by the user name thumchok on thaivisa, rides a kawi ZZR1400.
i spoke briefly to a couple of the guys after the accident happened, don't have all the details but apparently a truck pulled out onto the highway to make a u-turn and he ran into the back of the truck......i think, as i said i don't have all the details so i apologize if this turns out not to be completely acurate
i'm sure i'll know more when they return.
very sad news
RIP jim
condolences to your family
R.I.P :(
They often do this from the left lane because of their "turning circles". I have seen cars go into the side of the truck many times.Quote:

Thing with the big bikes is that they are usually being ridden at speed and that don't work well when some tosser pulls out in front of you.
Bummer dude.
Thanks Tony, my Thai ain't to good, Fact nonexistant, but I did get some,
God damn sorry to hera that but they have god damn near got me a couple of times because of theeir utter stupidity in building and using roads and why the fuck not have overcrossing unstead of a U-Turn ever few hundred yards or them using them to go thru and not change directions but only to go thru and drive again traffic.
the u turns on the highways scare the shit out of me.Quote:

If that's a bait & a bite you need to have your morning coffee.
Because excluding a few provinces such as Rayong, Bangkok, Phuket and a few others, hardly anyone pays any taxes.Quote:

And thats what you've got to do. Stay in the motorbike lane if possible and keep your concentration to the max, watching out for potholes etc (because they're more like craters here).Quote:

The guy seems like he was an experienced rider. Very unlucky. RIP.
Thing is with the Honda wave one will usually cruise around 80 klm, makes it a lot easier to get out of shite.
These guys with the big bikes are pissing along, when the shit goes down they got no hope of stopping.
This dude I seen in Kanchanaburi had a nitrous system fitted, must of thought he was Mad foking Max or something.
I mean what foking chance has that guy got when he's cranked that up and some foking Thai muppet pulls out in front of him ?
Fok all is the answer, it's all madness to me and your setting yourself up for a date with the undertaker playing with that shit on a Thai road.
What foking ever, its there problem.
I'll just cruise along on my Wave as well matey, my idea of riding is to enjoy the scenery as theres no point for me in getting to the other end and seeing fok all.
Even on a wave you can not see the country, you will have to stop and look then drive on a ways and do it again.
There is no way you dare taking your eyes or thoughts off the traffic or roadway for even a split second or they got ya.
Had this on my last trip down to BKK. Had to pull hard onto the right, stand on the brakes, in sand on the right shoulder - gulley to my right - stopped from 100km/h on ABS - 6 inches aways from the side of his truck.
Idiot stooped, looked at me, saw no harm, then calmly drove off. Wasn't man-enough to even apologise.
Worst drivers in the world - brain-dead from the toes upwards.
I know, what to do, those bastards driving around as if they owned the road, totally useless, not like me, I am the best, never drive too fast or careless, never had an accident in my life, at least not my fault, the bastards, useless, all of them, I will kill the next one that gets in my way, bam, that'll show them, my car is nicer than theirs anywayQuote:

Usually the first thing you see is the black and white painted curb coming across the bike lane in front of you. If there's a row of trucks, buses and other vehicles in the ordinary lane, they certainly ain't stopping or slowing down to let some motosai peasant cut into their traffic, so you often have to hope you have the stopping power to not smash into it.
If you haven'tgone nose first into a 3 foot deep pothole with a 'warning' twig sticking out of it before then of course.
Thais aren't even expected, never mind required to learn how to drive.
What can be expected but people who drive like infant monkeys.
I think some people have stayed in Thailand a little longer than is healthy for them to do so, they are getting rather frustrated and bitter.:)
I'm sure life is just perfect in your percieved location of "Surin", however, in the non fantasy world of those who actually reside here, we want to see things improve in Thailand from a health and safety perspective.Quote:

So take you sentiment and :finger:
The lack of education and regulation here make it an interesting place. The so-called "motorbike lane" is called "the shoulder" in most countries. I never ride in it. You are less visible to intersecting traffic and they less visible to you. The dog, chicken or drunken Rice farmer darting out in front of you will be, literally, in FRONT OF YOU!
Riding in a motorcycle is fraught with dangers. Riding one in Thailand is only slightly more adventurous. Fuck the MC lane, it is the most deadly place on the road. this may be OK for those folks that ride at 10% of traffic speed, but if you are going to keep up with or exceed the traffic speed, get in it, watch your back, watch everything as if it were out to kill you. Because it is.
You need 360 vision to drive in Thailand. Plus patience. I never had a prob.
Got a good point there, those muppets in Hanoi riding those motorbikes like there on a death wish.
WHATS ALL THAT ABOUT FOR FOK SAKE? :mid:
I seen this stupid coont go straight into an intersection without looking and smash into another foker coming from his right.
The bastard flew off the bike in front of me and smashed his head into the pavement, he layed there twitching blood pissing everywhere, every bastard just stood there looking at him.
I thought, that will teach you a lesson you stupid bastard and walked away.
Foking hate those coonts that drive and ride like that.
