Dr Bob, I owe you a HUGE thank you for this! I can't see the moon from my office, so I went outside to see it. Firstly, the moon & the two stars looked so comical, I was laughing. I called littl'un out to see it. Now, since his Dad died, he's been convinced his Dad's spirit is on the moon. He's just told me that that was his Dad smiling at us because he loves us. He's so happy at this sign from his Dad. Thanks for telling me it was there. You made a little boy very happy. :D
My camera is not up to it I'm afraid.:(
The face is missing a nose.
Damn, I was going to start this thread myself :)
everyone is looking outside,
^^ My camera wasn't either. Just 3 light blobs against black. :(
hmmmm, we cannot see it here in Jakcity - totally overcast and cloudy. :(
That's unlucky as this will not happen again until 2036.:(Quote:

must be smiling on Thailand tonight
thanks theters and melvy
I took a pic but it turned out shite. But how bright are the two 'eye' stars! Very odd, almost preternatural.
Yep, someone has a sick sense of humour.:)Quote:

Gone now. Or at least it has here - can't see the moon at all. Littl'un's bedtime so we went out to say goodnight to Daddy & 'he' wasn't there. But littl'un is happy. He saw Melvbot's & Thetter's pics (which we're saving) and he reckons Daddy was just tired smiling at everyone for so long.
Cheers guys, for the pics. I'm so grateful. :D
It's not Jesus and Mohammed's second coming I'm afraid. The one on the left is Venus. The one on the right is Jupiter. They have been close together for a couple of weeks but yesterday was their closest. I got my flipper girl looking at them through my telescope but she does not believe that it is possible to see planets and insists that they are both stars.Quote:

Kids can be amazing and so resilliant, they can see some of the wonders that we take for granted seem so special that we cannot see! Good luck, unfortunately, I didn't realise how unusual this was else I would have tried to take a ham fisted photo, but I'have missed the opportunity.
However, if you want to replay this, you can download some software called "stellarium" which allows you to recreate any posiotion or time on earth related to the nights sky, if you send me a pm I will try to send the program to you, you can replay the smiley face for your little one over and over again!
Mine aren't the best either I'm afraid but that's what you get when you balance your camera on a towel and pillow on top of a chair and manually press the shutter button.

November Rain you can tell our little one that in this photo his Daddy was having a little party.

^ You didn't know his Dad - that is probably the truest of the lot!!! :D
Thanks, all. Littl'un wants me to print out the pics & put them up in his room, so I'll do that tomorrow - including the party pic! :D
Its Stellarium it is free and quite amazing!

Doh!!...though I was being smart spotting this, guess not....
Here's my attempts, was there for a while using graduated filters to balance the light.

Great shots BC. I know exactly where you live now.;)
I saw it during a lovely sunset, but didn't have my camera to hand sadly. Nice effort from you guys though.
Really Norton?...Maybe you know where I work, or where my gik lives, or that ladyboy I met earler today......
yes, that's it.
So where does the ladyboy live?...55555
NR, if you want to full resolution versions for best prints let me know and I'll email them to you.
Same same in Hong Kong.
Was at Disneyland this evening. At first I thought it was a Disney stunt !!!!
Nice shots Bobcock.
Tripod, 2 sec exposure?
What nonsense will the otherwise responsible and educated leaders of this land ascribe to this wholly naturally occurring phenomenon tomorrow?
I shudder at the thought.
Hey bobcock what camera and equipment are you using?
Canon 30D, various lenses
Texpat
tripod, 10 second exposure with a Graduated Neutral density filter to dampen down the city lights.
Good pictures BC, what equipment are you using?
Edit: Ignore that.
Cheers.
I was sitting in the Little Italy Italian Restaurant on the corner of Sukhuvit and soi 23 when my english mate arrived and was going on about the moon.
Me being skeptical thought that he had one 2 many in the previous bar and kept on drinking my beer.
Then my 5 year old daughter rang me from Pattaya and said I must have given her christmas wish letter to Santa and he was smiling at her right now.
Isn't the world a lovely place :)................sometimes.
