Tonight's star-studded Olympic closing ceremony will feature David Beckham, Leona Lewis and Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin fame
While we aren't able to provide you with any spoilers like we did for the opening ceremony, executive vice president of NBC Olympics David Neal made his way to a college campus 90 minutes west of Beijing where secret rehearsals were being conducted and exclaimed, "It's just unlike any other closing ceremony I've ever seen."
While Olympic closing ceremonies in the past are usually "a simple vehicle for extinguishing the Olympic flame and setting the stage for the next games", China under the charge of creative director Zhang Yimou has pulled out all the stops to "dazzle" the world with glittery shows and a "great deal of entertainment".
While most of the closing ceremony remains a secret, Andrew Cawthorne of Reuters says English footballer David Beckham will be "kicking a ball into the crowd from a red double-decker bus to symbolise the handover to London." The eight minute segment from London, host of the 2012 Games, will also feature Michael Phelps, Leona Lewis and Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin fame. Page's rock classic "Whole Lotta Love" has apparently been deemed too racy by Olympic organisers and had to be amended for the closing ceremony.
Xinhua also reports that viewers can expect a "kungfu display, featuring 350 practitioners from a local martial art school, would be part of the show, in addition to 60 erhu, or Chinese violin, players from eastern province of Jiangsu," although the cast of 7,000 will not include any of those 15,000 that were involved in the opening ceremony.
For those of you that want to watch the ceremony on Youtube's dedicated Olympic channel but aren't able to do so, one geek offers some practical advice how you can get around it by simply removing Youtube's geolocation cookie.
The ceremony starts at 8pm Beijing time, so remember to tune in!

Techically one of the finest guitarists of our lifetime.
Drugs has largely been his biggest downfall and some of his concerts have been less than professional. Suffered a huge loss of confidence but seems to have recovered his past glory.
Don't know how he will go without Bobby Plant by his side though. Never thought of him as a stand alone act.
What's Beckham gonna do, juggle balls on his nob.

Jimmy Page- better than Clapton ever was. Drugs can enhance performance til they take over and ruin.

The Beckham bit was a waste of space appart from when he kicked the ball into that kids head. The kid was quite happy about it.

Out of all the British guitarists of that era Peter Green was perhaps the most gifted. Comparisons are odious but Page greater than Clapton? You have to be kidding. Even Alvin Lee was better than Page.
Jimmy Page has got a much wider range of styles than Clapton, his acoustic work for Zep is outstanding.
A muso friend of mine told me that Rod Stewart was going to be the front man before Robert Plant joined, and in many ways they are very similar. I wonder how different the band would have been with Rod.
John Bonham is a legend also and without his drive and ability the band would never have got off the ground, I've heard that the roadies used to dismantle his drumkit over a tarpaulin so they could collect all the coke that he didn't manage to get up his nose, quite a considerable amount apparently, but maybe that's just an urban rock myth.
I was watching Jimmy Page's Olympic performance on TV with my 84 year-old father, who asked me who the old Chinese guy was playing electric guitar.
We can all discuss and debate until we are blue in the face.
Most of these mentioned musos could produce guitar artistry and when in a studio and or jamming at home.
Basically we will either like a player and based upon the product the whole band produces.
For instance sake I refer to The Faces and who fronted Rod Stewart. Well I liked the sound that they produced and particularly that sound that Ron Wood was playing at the time. Doesn't mean he was the best guitarist only that I liked his playing style which has since been wasted upon him joining the Rolling Bones.
At the end of the day the commercial product thrown at us doesn't make the musician.
Sat in and played with guys that could wipe the floor with most of these so-called hero musicians (Nobody's).
Walk down the streets of New Orleans or Memphis and see street musicians that could make you weap tears of joy. These absolute masters of their craft never even get a mention.
^yep did that in 87, some of them bar musos were incredible, some really great memmories there
On a purely technical level (which is physical technique + harmonic knowledge) I don't think either of them (Page + Clapton) make the cut against a whole load of guitarists. However, that isn't the point. What both of them had in common was (in the words of Tom Waits and Keith Richards) "that feel". An ounce of feeling is worth ten tons of technique. Thats why I tend to vomit when I hear Yngwie Malmsteen or Steve Vai or Joe Satriani or any other of these twiddling fret wankers. Give me Peter Green any day.

George Harrison was better than the both of them. He was much more versatile. His subtle country-influenced riffs in the early Beatle recordings were amazing. PArt of his brilliance was that he also knew when not to play during each song. Brian May from Queen is another genius who did a lot of things on his guitar better than either Page or Clapton.Quote:
