Day Trip: Phnom Phen shooting range and whoring or ...

Lazy afternoon shopping in Singapore...

Need to do a visa run and since going to Pattaya and then to the Cambodia checkpoint is too long a drive (about 7 hours for 500km), I am thinking of doing a cheap flight day trip to a close destination,

I am quite tempted by the PP shooting range after seeing that nice report in the travel forum,

but again, Singapore is always a good place to get away and enjoy a lazy afternoon on the busy street of Orchard drinking real draft beers on the nice sidewalk cafe...

AirAsia for PP is about 5000 THB, not bad while Singapore is 7000 THB

Which one would be more fun, I am really split on that one. Do I need a VISA for Cambodia before I board the plane ?

Another vote for Cambodia.

You can get a visa when you arrive in Phnom Penh for $20. If you don't have a passport photo it is an extra $1.

The guns at the range are in very poor condition so just fire what you want to fire; the AK47, M16, M60, Type67, RPG, grenade etc are all worth while.

There is a wall of guns and loads to choose from such as the Uzi and even a Bren gun but they are all in terrible condition and as such won't be a worthy experience. Avoid firing any shotguns and pistols also.

Get there early... It was about an hours drive in a dusty tuk-tuk to get to the small guns range... If you want to fire rockets and shit then you have to go even further out with the army boys.... Think it was another 30 minutes or could have been more as I was feeling the effects of the 'Happy' at the time..

Apparently you can apply on-line for the VISA, it's done immediately, no line at immigration, and quick customs

How come Thailand doesn't have that when Cambodia can ?

Time's a factor too innit. By the time you fly in, customs, town/shooting range from airport... That's big chunk of your day right there.

Yeah, that's the problem with Singapore, it's a 3h trip with the customs etc... while PP is only 1 hour away, and the e-visa saves you another 40min, so I can be shooting cows by 12pm,

40 mins, i doubt it, i have flown to PP many times and the longest i have waited for my visa has been 10 mins, average about 5.

A couple of sois along the prom and to the left was located a bijou bar delightfully named DV8 run by a Kiwi and his Khmer wife. Not sure if it is still there but if you are after a drink amidst comfort and in the company of a small stable of girls whom you could short time in situ then I heartily recommend it. Doubtless an arrangement catering for your peculiarities could be negotiated.

Another feature I recall about the place was the host's fascination for the Beatles whose entire record/CD collection he proudly owned.

I'm a Stones man but it wasn't an issue.

If you want to go shagging, you need to head up to street 105. The FCC is a nice place to stay as is the Cara Hotel.

Last time I was in PP stayed on street 104 which is near the ferry terminal on the riverfront - lots of mongering bars on that small street...

Failing that, street 51 has plenty of options also...

I paid less than 200 US but this was about 10 years ago. surely it can be negotiated? In any event it is a worthwhile experience. It costs more to blow up a cow though if I recall.

I went to Shanghai safari park a few years ago and you can buy live chickens from peasants at the entrance to the lions enclosure. You then hold them out of the window, making sure the window is closed up to their tiny feet, and then gun through. The lions run up after you and bite them right out of your hands.

Pickled parrot.... that's the one. Rooms aren't great but location is ideal.

Butterfly - that isn't really walking distance to street 104 once the lights go out... stick to tuk-tuks... Or stay at the Pickled Parrot.
