Victoria Bitter to release high strength 6 per cent beer this week

Victoria Bitter, one of the most iconic beers in Australia, is set to launch a new brew this week, and it’s called Victoria Bitter Xtra, or VX.

According to the brewer, the new beverage will be brewed with the same ingredients that make up the original VB taste but with an added “bolder and more intense” flavour profile, boasting an alcohol content of 6 per cent.
The new beer will be sold in four-pack 250ml stubbies, each worth 1.2 standard drinks, with a traditional 375ml VB stubby containing 1.4 standard drinks.
According to Victoria Bitter brand director, Sarah Wilcox, VX aims to cater to a growing trend in the craft beer market for bold, intense flavours, and beer lovers who are looking for more choices when it comes to their brews.
“We’ve launched VX to give beer lovers a slightly bolder and more intense version of the great VB taste they’ve enjoyed for generations. It is brewed to be enjoyed with mates and to offer more choices of great-tasting beer for various occasions,” she said.

“We think there’s a market among traditional beer lovers who also want bolder and more intense flavours. It’s all about choice.”
VB also revealed that the company launched VX in response to Aussies reverting back to trusted brands during the pandemic.

VX aims to cater to a growing trend in the craft beer market.
For almost 100 years, Victoria Bitter was brewed at a strength of 4.9 per cent, but in 2007 it was dropped to 4.8 per cent, and then to 4.6 per cent two years later, sparking a fierce community backlash.
“Beer lovers with long memories will remember we did that once before, and we definitely won’t be rushing to do it again. This time we are listening to our consumers and giving them what they want,” Ms Wilcox continued.
While Australians are increasingly moving towards lower alcohol content beers, with almost 30 per cent of Carlton & United Breweries’ beer sales being no zero, low, and mid-strength beers, Ms Wilcox believes there’s still a place for higher-alcohol brews like VX.
The new brew was designed to complement the original VB taste, rather than replace it entirely.

VX will feature a new red, white, and black logo and the new slogan ‘For a Hard Earned Night.’ A four-pack of 250ml stubbies of VX will be available for purchase at major bottle shops for $16 (RRP), while a slab of stubbies will retail for around $60 (RRP).

I rather enjoyed VB back in the day, it was my beer of choice.

VB - beer of choice for many of NZ's homeless / street people, often the cheapest beer sold in six packs at supermarkets.

It's been many years now but I seem to remember that Tooheys was my beer of choice.

^ That was My beer of choice when I lived in OZ.

Can still remember the old VB adds that are not much different to the current VB adds. And that tune, you only need to hear the first 3 seconds and you're thinking about VB! Advertising simplicity that obviously worked very well. Don't mind an ice cold VB, but always preferred it from the tap than in a can or glass.

Vb is OK not great but not ok. I will give it a crack. Personally I think most mainstream Oz beer is fucking ordinary And expensive, there's plenty of excellent craft beers but they are also expensive. We're talking $25 / $30 for a four pack of beers . I've been drinking asahi because it's a 500ml can and 5% . I'm not going fuck around with that bush chook shit ( emu export) that in a wee can and and about 4.5 % $65 or $70 for a slab of 30 cans for that shit.

I look forward to the 6% vb

When I saw strong beer I thought 8 or 9 percent. Even the Philippines has Red Horse at 8% for their strong beer by the national brewery San Miguel.

Scrumpy - while at Foodstuffs NZ a few years back I has to go through the dismissal process for a supermarket employee caught on CCTV stealing Ginger Scrumpy; he was a flaming redhead so I guess a logical choice for him. Single 500ml cans of Kingfisher were probably the most popular alcohol theft item. Not a beer I've tried.

Tbh m8st Australia beer back in the day was shite, the only decent place for a pint was in the local Irish bar.

I've never had a pint of VB but I've had schooners, pots, middies, and ponies of it before. No matter, its great off the tap which is a term that's way too difficult for brittle teflers to be able to understand apparently :)
