Florence is a monster. She will do huge damage to an area which rarely gets hit full on.
Where I am will just get heaps of rain.

As Hurricane Florence approaches, thousands ‘pledge’ to shoot their guns at the storm
More than 30,000 people have marked themselves attending a Facebook event titled Shooting Guns At Hurricane Florence To Scare It Away — and 73,000 more said they are interested in having a shootout with the downpour of rain and strong gusts of wind.
“Get your guns and your umbrellas,” the page reads. “And your umbrella-guns, and your beer, and your beer-guns, and your tiny umbrellas to keep your beer dry, and join people from all along the East Coast in scaring away Hurricane Florence to protect our country from this foreign invader!”

Some of the best the east coast of Australia gets is when there's a half decent storm in the ditch.
^re: posts 18 & 19 - GF is a Filipina, like me. She's used to typhoons.
Overcast skies here today - doesn't look good. Started getting really cloudy yesterday afternoon. Classes suspended in all levels (public & private) in my province & others too - preventive suspension by the local govt. No rain yet - the calm before the storm. Will report later today if there's anything significant & my net allows it.
Edit: it's expected to bring winds of 205 kph & a 6-m storm surge in Cagayan province up north, eastern side. It looks scary (and I'm not easily scared by typhoons).
good luck, katie
Stay safe Katie :)
Yep, I hope that any Teakdoor members and or their relatives and loved ones confronting this act of mother nature stay safe.
Thx
brother and family staying put in NC's Outer banks.

Nothing exciting yet to report. Still have electricity & net, which is always good. Probably will change later today/tonight. It was also a bit like this with typhoons Yolanda (Haiyan) and Glenda (2013 & 2014), both monster typhoons. Very calm, then onslaught of rain & wind. Keeping fingers crossed...
Holy smokes!

Stay safe Katie!
^gosh, it's bigger than when I checked it yesterday! Seems it has also swept up that other weather disturbance (lower right). Yesterday, that was still separate. At that size, it will affect the whole country, not just the north. Yday, it was only projected to hit mainly the north. Hope it isn't as strong as Yolanda (Haiyan) or Glenda....
Thanks for the well wishes. I live a bit south of Manila. If Manila is inundated, then most likely my area will be too...
Looks big. Stay as safe as possible.

Well today I learned that there is no difference between a hurricane and a typhoon apart from where they are.
Never knew that.
^ All the same.
Hmmmm.....
"Hurricanes are tropical storms that form over the North Atlantic Ocean and North East Pacific.
Cyclones are formed over the South Pacific and Indian Ocean and typhoons form over the North West Pacific Ocean."
