Record Haul of Nazi Artifacts Found in Argentina.

IN a hidden room in a house near Argentina’s capital, police believe they have found the biggest collection of Nazi artefacts in the country’s history, including busts of Adolf Hitler, magnifying glasses inside elegant boxes with swastikas and even a macabre medical device used to measure head size.

I watched a documentary about this some months back and apparently they were in the process of building a Nazi Fortress there as well.

An American News team were investigating and trying to find out more about the Nazis that fled there after the war.

I had a complete Nazi SS tanker's uniform that my Dad had 'liberated' from a warehouse on the drive through Germany (he was also a tanker) - jacket, trousers, overalls, and hat. My brother sold it for me years ago at an auction - as I recall, I made around $800. Nazi original stuff is worth serious $$$$.

Apparently Joseph Mengele the death doctor from Auschwitz lived in Argentina for years after the end of the war along with his henchmen.

Not confirmed but if you watch the documentary people swear by it.

It was confirmed a few years back. He spent much of his life in Argentina but he died in Brazil in 1979. Mengele's body was buried in Sao Paulo, Brazil. DNA testing confirmed it was him and his family then revealed the story of his whereabouts and some of his activities since the war.

Re the OP. It looks like the owner owned them legitimately. He's an antique dealer whose house was raided after he was accused of dealing in illicit antiquities - Egyptian and Chinese.

It's mostly a myth. No high-ranking Nazi has ever been shown to have gone to South America. Thousands of Nazis did, of course, go there but they were mostly middle-level functionaries. Probably the best known Nazis to have gone to South America were Eichmann, Stangl, and Mengele. None of them held high rank. The highest ranking Nazi I can think of offhand who escaped to South America was Eichmann who was an SS Obersturmbannfuhrer - Lieutenant Colonel - not a particulalry high rank and he had no political influence in the NSDAP.

Forty years after the US-backed military coup that brought General Augusto Pinochet to power in Chile, the truth about the sordid abuses and crimes that took place during his dictatorship are still emerging.

The mountains of Patagonia in southern Chile witnessed a particularly bizarre chapter of the Pinochet era; one that is still claiming victims today.

In 1961, a former Nazi corporal called Paul Schaefer fled Germany, along with hundreds of others, to found a sect in southern Chile. In an idyllic rural enclave framed by the Andes Mountains he created a virtual state within a state - one where horrifying events unfolded.

Initially with the ignorance of the government, and then with the complicity of the Pinochet regime, children were separated from their parents at birth and raised in a Kinder House. Men and women were kept apart and often drugged, while Schaefer systematically sexually abused boys and, occasionally, girls.

It also served as a haven for Nazi fugitives - such as Walter Rauff, the inventor of the portable gas chamber, and Joseph Mengele, the so-called 'Angel of Death' - who were permitted to hide out there in exchange for overseeing sophisticated forms of torture.

All of this took place with the full knowledge of the Pinochet regime, whose notorious intelligence chief, General Manuel Contreras, would often visit the site.

In The Colony: Chile's dark past uncovered, the truth about what took place inside the Colony is revealed through the story of Winfried Hempel. Now 35, Hempel was born into the Colony and raised there without any knowledge of who his parents were. When he first left its grounds, he was 20 years old, spoke no Spanish, had no notion of the country in which he lived and had never seen a television, computer or mobile phone.

Although he initially struggled to adapt to the world beyond Colonia Dignidad, he gradually learned to speak Spanish, received his high school certificate and eventually qualified as a lawyer.

Al Jazeera's Lucia Newman has followed the story of the Colonia Dignidad since 1996 - at one point even being turned away from the site at gunpoint. As a Chilean, she wants to expose the crimes that took place there - crimes that her country was not only complicit in, but an active participant to.

Yesiree Bob. Eichmann was "just following orders" in the 'facilitation of mass deportations and the overall management of the logistics involved for all extermination camps' in German-occupied Europe throughout WW2.

POSSIBLY his trial and death by hanging for crimes against humanity was just a sham.

As there is a tonne of material available that might contradict your set-in-stone understanding of these historical issues.

I don't think Hitler ever featured on regular Reichsmark pieces.

Could be some kind of token but does not look very authentic.

^Looks like a replica 5RM token. Hitler did not feature on legal tender coins.

Shows how insane these people were that even after Hitler dictated a scorched earth policy that led to the complete destruction of Germany and destroyed the Nazi party through absolute incompetence against the advice of his generals and admirals, some apparently still worshiped him.

Not endorsing Nazism, but one would think those who do would hate him too.

There's a movie, Colonia (the colony) which stars Emma Watson of Harry Potter fame, and a German actor as her bf. Interesting movie and tells abt the religious sect/ cult which lived in the middle of nowhere. Founder of cult was a German guy with Nazi links.

The lettering is quite tiny and hard to read but then my vision has been getting a bit strained at the short end in the last year or 2 but with my newly purchased ant-burning magnifying glass I can make it out.

Just look at all these artifacts. It must be worth a fortune. Obviously a controversial area 'Nazi memorabilia'. But I guess there is a market out there of avid collectors. What is your opinion is the Pièce De Résistance. Having seen the video. Which piece would you want?
