My wife and I have often asked ourselves this question as we made several mistakes when we moved to Thailand back in 2007. And to make a long story short ... we would have went straight to Pattaya vice buying land and building a house in Taphan Hin, Phichit. Followed by by buying land in Ban Phe, Rayong. Far too much money wasted figuring out where we would be happy. We both think that if we had started off in Pattaya in the first place it's very possible we wouldn't have ever left.Quote:

Philippines, not LOS - same but different.
I'd do it the same. I had lived in Manila for about 7 years before moving South to a more rural area. I rented here for about 6 years before building a house. House was finished and we moved in 9 years ago.
All worked out fine.
I reckon it's all worked out reasonably well.
She's happy.
I'm alright.
I don't get humbugged by anyone and she understands that.
Nope, all in all I reckon we're good.
It appears that members don't need a second chance.
It surprises me but LOS may just be Mecca/Garden of Eden.
I respect the posters who have responded, but how the hell can you infer that from their replies?:)Quote:

Relax, put your feet up, have a cold one & enjoy life.
There are no big bets on the outcome of this poll as far as I am aware.

Skip Thailand and move to a proper country like Japan :-)
hmmm... I would have focused on my skin care business earlier (over teaching)...
Not become involved in anything political... enough said.

Congratulations on your privileged position.
Teaching is a much sort after position in the Kingdom.
It must be your PhD.
Got there...planned to teach. Didn't. Left.
Did that twice. Would probably do it again.
^probably a wise decision, twice. Sweat and low expectations are not a marriage made in heaven...
Mate, opening a school is a wee bit different than working for the man.Quote:

Give me a chance - win/lose/succeed or fail, you lot will know the result...it's only life. peace.
+ the infinite joys of Thailand (or any number of other Asian countries) are just a short/cheap flight away.
Teaching is not as easy as many think.
In Oz, I was employed at a rural university for close to a decade. For those who are after a 'free lunch', it is easy.
In Thailand, I did voluntary teaching for 6 months. Then, I discovered that this activity was illegal (I am on a retirement visa).
Quality teachers are hard to employ and retain in rural areas.
May good fortune come your way.
Tuition fees are straining upon parents.
Arigato! Thanks Adam. Good luck to you and yours.
In fact, good luck to everyone in their endeavors in 2017.
We are all just trying our best for our families.
Yes Nick will be.

I didn't "relocate' to Thailand. I just , sort of, ended up here.
'Relocate' has a touch of class to it but SAME SAME.
Nope.. I'm living in a box now.. my city apartment (which we will rent out) is only 50 m2.Quote:

I feel honored... bless ya cotton socks, Tom.
Could it be that posters who have a happy ending are only too willing to share good outcomes?
Those with unhappy experiences, not so forthcoming.
I do not know of any desirous to share their misfortunes.
ive known/know, many falang mates that get bored with los, leave in desperation, state fuck it ive ad enough aint ever coming back, etc, low and behold. fuck me have u seen joe blogs,,,, he's back again. gotta larf aint ya.
My observation is just the opposite. Horror stories of how a fella was taken by a Thai spouse/family, screwed by a Thai business partner, cheated by a Thai builder, extorted by the BiB, et al dominate forum and media content.Quote:

Nor does the media. Breaking news! "No one in Pattaya was beaten by a gang today." ;)
As to the OP, I would set up my septic and water system better if I had a second chance.
I too get bored. Population of 20k. Expats - 20? Lotus/Makro. TRUE TV - delete.
English conversation is missing.
I have music, climate, atmosphere, STICKS, massage, simple visa arrangement, quality family (we all have our own space), no desires to travel anymore, enough $$$. Previously I had 'too much', so that I was worrying about it.
When my number is called, all is OK.
sounds more like a bank than a massage parlor...Quote:

Just not sure if it will be a full time or part time thing yet. Or it could possibly even just be her going back for 4-5 months a year. If that's the case then it would probably be from sometime in November every year until just after Songkran.Quote:
