A secret 9/11 history exists - one that the few who know it say names at least one foreign country that provided support to some of the 19 hijackers on their murderous mission 13-years ago [today].

Twenty-eight pages from an official 2002 report detailing foreign-government assistance to the September 11 attackers remain classified. Determined 9/11 family members and sympathetic congressmen are pushing hard, however, for the long-awaited release of the missing history of one of the United States' greatest tragedies.

The controversial information is contained in the House-Senate Intelligence Committees' Joint Inquiry. The section on "specific sources of foreign support" was classified by former president George W Bush for national security reasons.

Bush received his share of flak for the move, but critics have also denounced President Barack Obama, who reportedly told several 9/11 family members he would declassify the 28 pages - but years later has still failed to do so.

Observers say the American public - and 9/11 family members in particular - deserve to know what the missing chapter reveals.

The 28 pages can be read by members of Congress who ask permission from leaders of the House and Senate Intelligence Committees. Once authorised, the politicians are led by intelligence officers to a special sound-proof room to read the redacted chapter. An officer remains present the entire time, ensuring that no notes are taken. No specific details from the 28 pages can be divulged to the public.

Congressman Massie has described the classified chapter as "shocking".
"I had to stop every couple pages and just sort of absorb, and try to rearrange my understanding of history for the past 13 years, and years leading up to that," he told a press conference earlier this year. "It challenges you to rethink everything."

Steven Aftergood monitors government secrecy for the Federation of American Scientists. He told Al Jazeera while the information might negatively affect US foreign relations, the importance of shedding light on the September 11 attacks takes precedence.

"In other cases, that might be enough to warrant classification. But in this case, the need to clarify the background of the 9/11 attacks is an overriding factor and it should compel disclosure, in my opinion. Sooner or later, that will happen. Sooner would be better," said Aftergood.

Prince Bandar bin Sultan was the Saudi ambassador to the United States on September 11, 2001. He denied any Saudi role in 9/11 in a 2003 statement.

"The idea that the Saudi government funded, organised or even knew about September 11 is malicious and blatantly false," said Bandar.

Saudi Arabia, interestingly, has also called for the declassification of the secret 28 pages on foreign support.

"In a 900-page report, 28 blanked-out pages are being used by some to malign our country and our people," Bandar said in 2003.

"Saudi Arabia has nothing to hide. We can deal with questions in public, but we cannot respond to blank pages."

Al Qaeda - Saudi funded, the hijackers of the planes on 9/11 all or mainly Saudi, nope the Saudi's had nothing to do with it.

What will they do with this revelation? At least one country dislikes the US sufficiently to support a terrorist attack. How can that be classified as anything other than common knowledge?

The fact that so many Amercans were surprised by the attack when it happened simply marks then down as insular and parochial.
If your nations government is based on a religious myth, you really have no complaint when it bites you in the ass.

This in no way diminishes the brutality of the attack, it just demonstrates how unbelievably gullible so many people are to think it could not happen to them.

If Israel is involved, then it's definitely an inside job, as Israelis are crawling every corridor of the Pentagon

My guess the reason it's soooooo shocking to the few privileged Americans that actually get to read it is that The terrorists were funded by entities in our own Government.

Why would it be soooooo shocking otherwise? Would anybody be rocked to their core if it was Israel? Saudi Arabia? Anywhere other than somewhere in the western world?

Or maybe it was Britain seeing as how so many of the ISIS (ohhh scary name) "terrorists" seem to be British and hold British passports.:)

There has been an ongoing effort by those with an interest in attacking the USA and Israel to spew unsubstantiated claims in an attempt to sow confusion and to blame the USA for 9-11. None of the idiots, and they are idiots, acknowledges the failed attempt to bring down WTC 2 in 1993. The est. 606 kg bomb detonated and resulted in significant structural damage. However, due to an inappropriate positioning of the bomb, it failed to bring down the tower. The culprits were caught, interrogated, convicted and sent to prison. They were members of al-Qaeda. The mastermind behind the attack was Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, a major figure in al-Qaeda. He was one of the planners behind 9/11.

Khalid Sheikh Mohammed was caught in Pakistan in 2003 by the USA.
Osama Bin Laden was also caught in Pakistan,

The common link in all of the attacks on the USA has been Pakistan and people of Pakistani origin. Pakistan has served as a refuge and planning center for terrorism activity. Pakistan has also been the recipient of large amounts of US aid.

If the report contains such shocking revelations it is unlikely to be about Pakistan. That would just make the US government look stupid and ineffectual.
Unless they are trying to protect Pakistan from western reprisals?

However, I believe the country that is at the center of the report is Saudi Arabia.
Unfortunately, Saudi Arabia is too strategic in respect to oil supply, investments, OPEC influence and geographic location to alienate. Perhaps if Americans were willing to pay a more reasonable price for petrol and to abandon their gas guzzling trucks and SUVs, the USA would be more in a position to have a different political position with Saudi Arabia.

The thing is if the report is about Pakistan why would the average American be so shocked? Why would that make an American rethink the history of the last 12 years? Most Americans dont give a shit about Pakistan and probably couldnt find it on a map.

That Americans were behind 9/ 11 would be the most shocking thing to the average "america is the best" brainwashed American. Sad part is they probably still wouldn't believe it.

He is not a US army colonel. He hasn't been in the 'loop' for quite some time as he 'retired' in early 2011. His security clearance had been revoked a few years before his "retirement". In the years leading up to his retirement he had been shunted to a desk job. I am not saying he's a bad guy or stupid, but he doesn't have all the facts, nor is he privy to top secret information. IMO he's just a pensioner with an axe to grind because of the misconduct charges he faced and his not being hired back as a special consultant to the military.

I find it amusing that many people in the UK who complain about the threat of terrorism and the imposition of things such as sharia law upon UK society, have no qualms in using the state airlines, owned by the families serving as conduits of funding for terrorism. It boggles the mind that people can get comfy on Qatar Airlines, Emirates and Gulf with no concern to the possibility that the airlines are the holdings of people allegedly involving in the financing of the terrorists. Worse yet, is that the Kuwaitis who demanded that westerners die so that their country could be liberated from Hussein, have been aiding the enemies of the people who saved their sorry asses. Arab loyalty and arab friendship at its finest.

Several foreign countries & governments are implicated.
Saudi Arabia was the source of most funding for AQ, a fair bit of that money coming from 'high-up's' with links to the royal family.
Pakistan has long provided training & refuge for terrorist organisations.
Israel knew in advance, but made sure the American public did not.
